Jack and I communicated regarding my music experience and guitar goals prior to my first lesson. He was prepared and had a good starting point ready to go. After 3 lessons, I can say I’m very happy with the combination of music theory and practical guitar playing in my lessons. Jack knows his stuff and is a good guitar teacher.

I’ve been taking guitar lessons from Jack for about 8 months and it’s been an absolutely rewarding experience. I’m an adult with no musical background or training at all (despite owning a guitar for over a decade), so we began with the basics. He’s done a great job of introducing me to technique/principles of music and having me learn songs that are fun, but also challenging enough to push me further each time. What I appreciate most are his encouragement and patience. His approach is very positive and it makes for a comfortable learning environment, which has been absolutely key for me. Playing guitar is clearly Jack’s passion and it’s evident how much he wants to share that during lessons. I can’t recommend him highly enough.

Jack is an awesome teacher! I started taking lessons from Jack about 7 months ago as a total beginner on the guitar. In our intro lesson, he asked me what my goals were (basically sing and play at the same time!) and has done a really great job structuring our lessons around what I want to do. Jack packs a ton into our 30-minute lessons--we play out of the lesson book, learn chords, practice techniques, and he usually gives me a fun song to sing and play. He's really good at pushing me out of my comfort zone to try new things (blues improv!) and is always very patient and positive. I would highly recommend Jack for beginners or any skill level!

I am an experienced music instructor who has been teaching for years, both privately, and working at multiple private studios. I grew up playing electric guitar, ranging from metal, to classic rock, to neo-classical. I am currently a performance major for guitar studying at Arizona State University under incredible instruction from amazing instructors. As a former music education major, I emphasize the importance of a versatile approach to teaching that suits each individually and promotes a greater opportunity for learning. I teach my students to understand and conceptualize music, rather than being able to repeat notes. Lessons will include theory, improvisation, focus on healthy practice and mental habits. I personally strive for all of my students to reach a potential that allows for them to be versatile and proactive musicians that can be comfortable in a variety of musical scenarios. I teach all ages, ranging from young children to seniors. All levels of experience, from ...

"Ahmad is incredible!! I could tell from day one he was going to make a huge difference in my guitar playing. His lessons are prepared in advance so very little time is spent penciling out lesson material. His teaching studio is a very clean and professional, and his super well organized library of teaching materials allows us to maximize our learning time. I love playing his teaching material! None of the guys I took lessons from before had such an effective approach. I have so much fun with it! His lessons have introduced me to various pop, rock, country, metal, and jazz concepts from very popular musicians. He has a unique way of teaching rhythm that has helped me capture phrasing and keep songs in time. Recently I've started taking his harmony classes. These classes have given me the knowledge to confidently play with other musicians and create great music. I would highly recommend Ahmad for anyone that desires to learn more about the guitar. I am moving back to Arizona for work (and sun!). I wish I could take him with me!!"

3 Tips for Playing Loudly (and Beautifully) at the Piano

Piano dynamics indicate more than just playing softly or loudly -- there's actual technique involved that you'll need to learn! Here, New York, NY piano teacher Nadia B. shares her tips to keep in mind...   You're approaching a passage with the word 'fortissimo' written on the music, and you're building up to a musical climax. As you feel the power of the music, you want to play loudly, but when you do, it doesn't sound as beautiful as you imagined. Playing loudly at the piano is easy; …
