Good habits and an excellent attitude make great cellists. It doesn't hurt to love music too. I love music and I love to share my passion with my students.

Having a teacher who is an experienced performer is an important quality in a teacher. I am a professional classical musician currently working as a freelance cellist in the Chicago area. I play with Chicago Philharmonic, the Northbrook Symphony, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the Northwest Indiana Symphony, among others. Before coming to Chicago I played for 13 seasons with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra.

I have taught privately for over 10 years including 2 years in Paris. My teaching is a reflection of my teacher, Phillippe Muller. I studied with Msr. Muller while studying at the Paris Conservatory. Msr. Muller is currently a Professor of Cello at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City.

About Wei

Even though I have been teaching and performing on the cello for most of my life, it's not all there is to who I am. I am a chef (almost--12 weeks to go), a mom, a wife. I have a cute little Tibetan Terrier that loves visitors. My husband and I love hiking in beautiful places. Studying with me

Wei is a phenomenal teacher. I've had 5 lessons so far, and in that short time she's far exceeded my expectations. She's very good at both diagnosing problems and consistently providing a diversity of effective ways to overcome them. She has high expectations and always balances pushing me to be better with a lot of positive reinforcement; I'm never made to feel any pressure at all, but I still feel I can go very far in my cello playing with Wei's sage guidance.

I'm truly ecstatic to continue studying with Wei!

I love tailoring lessons to my students! Music is personal and I want to make sure you're learning what you're interested in or need to learn in order to prepare you for auditions or keep up in groups you play in. I always ask students for a list of music they're listening to or want to learn - nothing's off limits!

While I prefer working out of Piano Adventures Method Books for piano students, I'm happy to work out of materials you already own.

About Stephanie

I started Suzuki violin lessons at the age of 3 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Music degree from UW-Milwaukee. In following years, I did post graduate work at Alverno College and went on to complete Suzuki teacher training in Suzuki Books 1-4. Besides teaching private violin, viola, and piano

A solid, artistic, and flexible piano technique from the beginning. One of the fundamental parts in learning to play piano is to learn the basics of piano technique, which includes proper posture of the body when sitting to play piano, proper fingers, hands, and arms position. The development of the arm and hand flexibility in order to learn the legato and staccato performance from the beginning of the piano studies.

Throughout my 20 years of teaching experience I have developed different methods for children and adults to build a flexible and artistic piano technique that has worked with all my students.

The proper use of the arm rotation, wrist flexibility and how the wrists and arms help to lead the direction of the phrases are fundamentals to attain a beautiful and rich tone .

About Jesus

Jesus has more than 20 years experience teaching piano and 10 years teaching the Suzuki piano method, with dozens of his students playing successfully in recitals, competitions, and auditions around the Chicago area. He completed his Masters of Music in Piano Performance with a scholarship from

"Marta was my favorite teacher in High School! I took her class (Marine Biology) not expecting to be amazed by the subject or the material. But, by the end of the class I had already signed up for another one of her classes. Marta engages her students and facilitates the growth of a newfound passion by sharing her own enthusiasm and vast knowledge on whatever subject she is teaching. I always have appreciated how patient she is and her willingness to spend as much time outside of class in order to make sure her students really understand what is being taught. I highly recommend Marta as a teacher, but only if you are prepared to learn a lot and become passionate about whatever subject she teaches you."

She was the utmost professional in that she did all the little things to help me like keeping records of our tasks, times, and evaluation results with detailed rubrics and spreadsheets. At the same time, she always inspired me with a big picture view of both the subjects we were teaching and their impact on students and the world but also on teaching itself. Her warmth, humor, knowledge, and experience made just being around her a pleasure and an education in and of itself!"
