I’m very fortunate to be able to learn from Michael. I’ve been working with him for two years now. Since COVID we have been doing lessons online and it’s working well. He is a very talented musician and teacher. Also a very kind and supportive person.

Michael introduced my 10 year old kid to saxophone. Lessons were in person and online. My daughter enjoyed them greatly and progressed well, learning to read music and play by ear. He was creative, nurturing and supportive to a new learner. He left quite a lasting impression. We were sad to see him leave the area.

I've been with Micheal for over two years now and he has helped me a ton. He's helped my technique, understanding of theory and the music I'm playing. I have recently started flute and he has given me great guidance on how I can improve and it has help tremendously.
Out of all the private lesson teachers I've had, Micheal is by far the best. I highly recommend him.

For your first flute lesson, please bring your flute, a music stand, and a love for music! We will begin by quickly talking through your goals and reasons for learning flute, as that informs my approach to your individual lessons. I emphasize a strong foundation in beautiful tone, technique, intonation, rhythm, and most importantly, the ability to communicate with musical phrasing. We can work on anything from learning how to produce a sound and mastering your scales, to preparing for auditions and performance skills. No need to bring sheet music if you don't know what to work on yet - I'll provide music and repertoire suggestions!

I have taught flute privately for over 8 years. I believe that lessons should be fun and informative. I also believe in hard work and collaboration. I expect students to be prepared for each lesson with all necessary materials and eager to learn new material each week. As I mentioned earlier, I believe lessons should be collaborative meaning that the student and I will decide together what materials are best suited for their goals and needs.

About Carey

I have a Master of Music in Flute Performance Degree with Distinction from the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2008 and a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance, Magna Cum Laude, from Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia in 2005. I have been taking lessons with Carey for the past 1.5 years. She is a stellar teacher and flutist!. Carey is very professional in her method of teaching and started by gaining an understanding of my objectives and expectations. I'm a retiree and even though I played the flute in my early teens, it had been 50 years when I picked it up again. Needless to say, it was like starting over from scratch. But with Carey's help, guidance, and instruction, I've been able to evolve into a "decent" junior level flutist. Thank you Carey!!
Debbie
Carey is excellent. She is a very accomplished flutist with great teaching and people skills. Carey is extremely skillful in figuring out areas of improvement through careful listening and probing of questions. Her suggested applications of adjustments are spot on!
Deborah
Carey is an excellent teacher. She shapes each lesson to my needs and challenges and gives me great exercises and tips that have improved my performance.

I had a great first lesson with Damien. He is patient and extremely considerate. Damien took the time to determine a baseline of my general knowledge. He answered my questions and fully explained the concepts that we discussed. At all times I felt that I was having a positive experience and I have set goals for my next lesson. I am energized and motivated to continue and look forward to my next lesson with Damien.

"My son started his on line flute lesson with Michelle during pandemic period. At first, I think he probably could not stay longer since boys always have 5 minutes heat. But Michelle made her class interesting, encouraging and easy understanding, my son couldn't wait to have class with her every week. I can feel his technique improved effectively after every class.

For only short 3 months, I was informed he was outgrown from his old book and was capable for upgrading to next level. I am much happier to find Michelle as his flute instructor. Thanks for helping him become more confident, optimistic and diligent."
