I have been teaching Piano for 16 years now. I have taught students from age 2 1/2 - Adult. I was self-taught when I was a kid and begun taking formal lessons as a very young adult in my early twenties. I graduated from CSULB with my BA in Music with a concentration on Voice. As a Music major you spend a lot of time at the Piano. I became a member of MTAC in 2004 and a member of Sigma Alpha Iota in 1998. I have a great passion for Music and a bigger passion for the Piano and sharing the wonders of how beautiful the Piano really is.

*** Lesson Details ***
In my opinion, piano is the hardest instrument to learn but the most rewarding. If you can play piano you can pretty much play any instrument. I believe that a piano lesson should be fun. I'm a strict teacher with a smile and a giggle. I push my students to greatness while helping the
m love the piano through the good times and the bad. I'm a very encouraging but honest teacher. I compliment when warranted and I assess not so good performances in an honest but encouraging manner. I always let a student know that though their performance was not their best, they can and will improve. It's always only a matter of time. I use the Schaum and Nevin series depending on the student's personality. I teach Classical and Pop Music. It's important for a student to learn the Classics just as important as it is for them to play things they like. I find the happy balance between the two. I teach Beginning to Intermediate levels. I also like to incorporate Music theory into the lessons because understanding the mechanics of Music helps make playing and creating Music much easier to accomplish. A typical lesson will start off with a hand drill warm up. We then will move on to the lesson book and repertoire. Theory will be assigned as homework. I look it over at the beginning of the lesson and discuss it and answer any questions in the last five minutes of class. Baby lessons go as followed: 15 mins. of play time and 15 mins of Music theory. I like to keep structure in my lessons but sprinkle a little joy and laughter to keep the atmosphere light. It makes for a much more attentive Piano student.

Katie is an ok teacher but I had a bad experience regarding a missed lesson. I was charged for a lesson ($60) that I cancelled 10 minutes prior to start time but called back 15 minutes later (that would be 5 minutes into our lesson time) to say we could make it. Katie had moved up another student and could not do our lesson but charged us any way!! If we were going to be charged for an hour of her time, she should have been available during that hour or at least given us 15- 20 minutes like the other teachers do. Also, if she moved up another student, why not let us take his spot?? The reason for their rule of charging for missed lessons is because the teacher misses out on that hour of income. Well she made double time during my paid hour!! What bothers me even more is that she cancelled one of our lessons just 2 hours before it was supposed to begin, and I was very understanding and accommodating. I did not give her a hard time or complain at all and just rescheduled. She didn't even consider returning the favor. Her lack of ethics really bothers me! Don't expect any favors from this one, she's all about the bucks!!! One word, "karma".

About Cindy
Cindy has been making music for as long as she can remember. She was the assistant director of a synagogue children's choir by age 14 and has directed and sung with many community choirs and pickup groups since then. But it wasn't until 1996 that she discovered the autoharp and began teaching and performing in earnest. Now one of the best recognized autoharp workshop leaders in the US, she has taught and performed at festivals and private concerts from Pennsylvania to California, as well as Tasmania, Australia, England, aboard cruise ships, and an upcoming visit to Sweden. She also shares her knowledge of old-time West Virginia fiddle techniques and repertoire, and is known locally as a sympathetic and effective voice teacher for those who think they cannot sing. In addition to her teaching activities, Cindy founded and directs the Pi
ttsburgh Threshold Choir, a group of women who sing at the bedsides of people who are very ill or dying.

Lessons with Cindy are self-directed with coaching intended to help the student accomplish his or her personal objectives. She will ask you to provide examples of music that you love so much that you'd be willing to work hard to learn to play it, and you will find yourself working on that music right from the start. Technique is taught in the context of the music: if you need a technique for a particular song, you will learn that technique. And of course once you've mastered a technique it's yours to use on the next song or tune and the next. It's a constant process of enjoying the music and discovering and mastering the technique needed to recreate it in your own playing or singing.

Lessons start with a review of the work you've been doing. We might take that song or tune to the next level with a new technique, or we might apply technique you've already learned to a new piece. Every lesson is different, customized to the needs of the student at that moment.

I recently approached Cindy for vocal coaching on songs that I perform on a regular basis with my duet. I am extremely pleased with her instruction. She was to the point, very clear and concise with her guidance. I know she improved my performance (I had a concert the very next day!). She gave me so much to think about. I really trust her approach with me. She made me feel very much at ease, which resulted in rapid-fire student/teacher give and take vocal direction. This is the way I like to learn! I loved my time with her and will certainly have another session with her soon!

I am a professional violinist with the National Philharmonic Orchestra at Strathmore Hall in Bethesda, Maryland. I also joined the Faculty of College of Southern Maryland (CSM) in 2013 where I teach Violin,Viola and Chamber Music Ensemble. I have been teaching violin with great results for more than 15 years and started my violin studio when I moved from Florida to Maryland in 2005.
Graduates of my studio have been admitted to prestigious conservatories such as Oberlin Conservatory, Manhattan School of Music, Rutgers Mason Gross School of Music and others and have won many competitions throughout the United States.

Special emphasis is placed on building and maintaining a strong classical music base, which is the foundation for all other styles and techniques found in music. Additionally, students are exposed to learning concepts in ear training, sight singing, music theory, music history, folk music and improvisation. This enables students to be exposed to other areas of music such as composing, arranging, conducting, etc., thereby giving each student the unique opportunity to branch out and explore endless opportunities.
All teaching is conducted in a supportive yet challenging environment. Each student is encouraged to think for themselves and develop their own judgment through the development of their ear and musical comprehension.
Student recitals I arranged once or twice a year to showcase my students talent and progress and encourage their love for music.
I also organize other activities for my students such as Master classes and Music mind games (for younger students). I have a group class "Building music and memory skills" designated for children age 4 to 6 (children learn basic concepts in music theory and ear training before starting playing an instrument).
I offer a half hour lesson for beginners, a 45 min. lesson for intermediate an an hour lesson for intermediate to advanced students. Above all, I strongly encourage enjoyment of music.
Music should be played from the heart with passion and excitement.

Rising soprano Jamie Balter most recently received recognition by both The American Prize in Voice and New York Lyric Opera Theatre Competition for her performance of works by Strauss, Mozart, and Wagner. A native of Baltimore, Ms. Balter earned her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music. This past July, she made her role debut as Donna Anna in Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Centre for Opera Studies in Italy. During the 2015/16 season, Ms. Balter returned to the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival as Marcellina in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, where she also covered Countess Almaviva under the baton of Maestro James Richman. In addition, she appeared as La Chatte/L’Écureuil in Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortilèges. Ines has been a great teacher throughout college. Her emphasis on technique has greatly influenced how I approach guitar playing. Also, she taught me how important one's guitar tone is when playing a song the way the composer intended it to be played. It is very clear that I have improved as a guitar player while being her student and my guitar repertoire has expanded beyond just classical music.

Music is something all of use as a form of vitality! It's something that humanity universally enjoys and participates in; whether it's through listening to music, attending a concert or actually playing, you are part of music.

I've always believed that anyone can develop musical talent once the correct learning environment is set up. When teaching, my responsibilities include inspiring the child and advising the parent so our goals can be accomplished during the week. I adapt my teaching style to suit the needs of each student, so I can keep my students interested in playing and motivated by their own accomplishments.

My aim is to establish the fundamentals of good playing from an early stage of study; such fundamentals are careful listening, correct posture and efficient motion patterns. In order to achieve these goals, I incorpo
rate pedagogical concepts from Paul Rolland, Ivan Galamian, Kato Havas and ones that I've developed, using familiar repertoire to learn new techniques. Small steps are celebrated as building blocks to a better playing technique.

Learning the violin is dynamic and full of creativity and problem solving. We are at the same time disciplinarians, cheerleaders, poets, psychologists, and violinists. As a performer myself, I demonstrate frequently in front of my students. In fact, I will often choose passages that I can't play perfectly myself but that I am able to greatly improve right in front of their eyes. My goal in doing this is to show them how in a relatively short amount of time, but with immense focus, one can solve a problem; in a sense, I am practicing in front of them.

Whether the violin is an interest, hobby or something you want to pursue professionally, I'll always give you the best advice and training to achieve your personal goals.

My current private students have had great success in studio recitals and becoming confident in their own musical ability. I'll always bring a positive and encouraging attitude to tackle any obstacle in your playing.
