I teach lessons to any grade/age group. I have an extremely open mind to teaching and music in general, so nothing goes out the door in terms of philosophy, however, I've come to realize that some methods work better than others. That said, I tailor my attention and focus as an educator to the needs of student I'm teaching in front of me. I don't consider the student who just walked out of the lesson or the student who is coming in next. I put my all in the student who is in front of me because I believe time is an essential asset to lessons. Also, every case is so uniquely different in terms of students and I take a good amount of time to calibrate the learning style of every student.

About Matt

I am passionate instructor who is fueled by seeing success in others. No other feeling is more fulfilling then seeing the growth of another human. I have been teaching private lessons in my own studio for about 8 years now. I've taught 7 marching bands and currently writing music for some with an

Playing the piano is something I have enjoyed since I was in the third grade. I loved music so much, I picked up the flute, as well, a few years later and joined my high school band. Since 1996, I have enjoyed teaching children who have a passion to learn as I did. With a degree in elementary education, I have experience both as an elementary school teacher as well as a music teacher of piano and flute. I studied the piano under seven different piano instructors and the flute under 3 instructors. As both an academic teacher and music teacher, I have watched how children who are trained in music flourish and excel in their academics, their creative skills, time management, discipline/character, their ability to concentrate, development of hand-muscle/hand-eye coordination, self-esteem, and ability to relax and cope with stress. I am constantly observing this in my own children's lives as they take piano lessons, and it has been so rewarding!!! I am looking forward to the opportunity to

Flute is a joy to play, for those simply looking for a hobby, and for more focused study.

As a music educator I have years of experience teaching privately and in classrooms, for individuals and groups. I craft lessons to the needs and interests of each student, to ensure they are getting the most of our time together. Many of my students enjoy, for example, video game and TV show music - so, these pieces are some of the repertoire we'll work on together. My goals as a teacher are to instill proper playing technique, guide how to shape the music, establish good practice habits, and above all find ways to connect students with the music they're studying. At the end of the day, we play music because it's fun!

About Alison

Thank you for visiting my profile! As a professional musician, I have played in various ensembles including orchestras, opera companies, wind ensembles, chamber groups, musicals and more. The Brooklyn Conservatory Community Orchestra (BCCO), presenting 3-5 concerts a year, has been my orchestra

About Justin

Like most guitarists, I had always wanted to play the guitar as a little kid. Luckily, my parents finally caved to the request (ok ok, incessant begging) and I began my guitar journey at the age of 11. After now 20 years of playing and 12 years of teaching, I am excited to share my experience and t

Justin is an excellent teacher!! He is a master guitarist, always punctual, very courteous and gives 100% to my lesson. I am learning classical guitar and jazz guitar with him and I am delighted with the progress I've made in just a few months. I am playing beautiful songs and before his lessons I could not play any classical guitar songs at all. Justin tailors the lessons to help me learn the songs I am excited about learning to play. I most highly recommend him as a teacher for any style guitar. Amazingly he also teaches ukulele and mandolin too! He has a degree from Cal Poly in music and guitar and has over 20 years teaching experience. If you really want to learn how to play guitar easily and quickly, take lessons with him!

We begin with exercises to develop technique and train for agility, musicality and music theory. Classical music is used but not exclusively as we explore the many different genres of music! Ear training is also offered so that the student may be able to play by ear as well as reading music.

About Tim

My wife and I have been teaching piano lessons in the Kansas City area for more than 20 years. We have studios in our home; she teaches upstairs and I teach downstairs! I am currently accepting new students and welcome the opportunity to see them grow and experience the joy of piano playing. W

I really appreciated that she made a point of not only explaining how to hold the bow, the violin, etc, but also explaining why it's important to use certain positions and posture and how it all comes together as one continues to practice. She's also super friendly and how's a very positive and welcoming demeanor."

"I am a retired education professional returning to piano having had some lessons in childhood and, briefly, about 25 years ago. In some ways I am a beginner, but I also had some skills - reading the treble clef, knowing the names of the keys, and singing ability, as well as the smattering of earlier lessons. Shirley is amazing! She takes a very personalized approach which reflects my interests and abilities but also sound principles for teaching piano. I was quite nervous about starting to study piano at my age but she has managed to both challenge me and encourage me. She was quick to realize that my love of singing and vocal skills could be applied to learning piano and moving from technique to musicality and helps me do that. After 4 months of lessons I am determined to succeed and starting to believe that I can - thanks to Shirley!"
