We'll go step by step through what makes a great abstract piece, and how you can get there. It takes some practice but before long you'll be making abstract pieces that are a joy to create. I am a practicing Artist of almost 9 years! Being creative is a great way to express yourself and bring forth a piece of mind. Painting is an activity that allows for you to put on canvas whatever landscape, image or emotion you wish to portray. From abstract painting to hyperrealism, we can dive in together to discover some of your favorite ways to express your creativity. Whether it be through watercolor, acrylic, oil painting or another medium, painting what the student wishes to gain further experience in is what we will accomplish. I am a professional artist working across many mediums with a primary focus in abstract painting and collage. I received a Bachelors of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), and a Meisterschüler from the Städelschule in Frankfurt, Germany. I have exhibited my work internationally including in Berlin, Frankfurt and New York. At SAIC I studied with founding members of the Chicago Imagists and the generation of abstract painters who studied under them. What developed during this time of working between multiple generations of abstractionists was an awareness of figure to ground and an approach that is central to my work now: abstraction of the figure within materially experimental fields and in relation to new materiality. I have a deep knowledge of painting materials and techniques and I am eager and excited to teach this to new students of all levels and ages. Painting is a window to the soul and I hope to facilitate deep self expression with my students!

The first thing I do before the first day of class is send out an enthusiastic email to introduce myself. We then Briefly discuss the learning goals for the course based on the visual literacy, technical, and intellectual competencies the students would like to achieve by the end of a period through the questionnaire. This is ideal for me to design the course or update an existing course for the student's desired outcomes. The customized syllabus and the schedule are completed along with a comprehensive strategy for what will take place during our lesson together. I incorporate technology all the time. I'm also inclusive driven because I believe everyone can learn no matter their capabilities or background, I also engage with my students by catering to their interests, and I embrace my dualities and share them with my students. You will learn all you should know about abstract painting, from choosing the right paint, paper, and brush, varnishing, and creating a collage to creating a complete composition. I will assist you in creating the abstract painting or mixed media art without spending a fortune on tools and materials. Plus you will be confident in understanding not only the technique like how to create texture but also your expression in this art form will take new life. Every class we work on something new; this method of mine is great for all students no matter their level. The topics covered include Primer, Texture, Paints, Brushes, Undercoat, Dark undercoat, Dimensions, Details, Painting process, and more.

Gesture, Expression and Experiment are my tools. I combination with an education in materials and the willingness to keep playing we end up confidently creating image. It is impossible to get anything done in an hour so try to find a way to book a longer time. Materials are somewhat included as I always have things but do contribute with art supplies, paper, found things. It's not necessary to spend a lot of money at the art supply store, just keep your eyes open at garage sales, etc and your store of materials will accumulate.
