I hired Dan to teach guitar to my 13-year-old godson and I cannot be happier. Dan is everything he wrote in his profile and more. He was definitely prepared and he was patient and he really connected with my godson. After he left, my godson was extremely excited and happy that I hired Dan to teach him guitar.

About Vanessa

Hi! I'm a professional singer, actor, and voice teacher and I love teaching my craft. I am a certified VIP (Vocology In Practice) teacher, and I offer affordable voice lessons in NYC, Queens, and Long Island. I am very passionate about healthy singing and firmly believe that armed with the proper knowledge and tools anyone can learn to sing! In terms of children, it has been proven that children who study music are happier, smarter, and more confident. I will introduce your child to the joy of music not just by singing songs, but in a course that teaches music literacy, vocal technique, and ear training as well. Most importantly, we are having fun while taking this journey! I can also work with you/your child on acting monologues and/or sides for auditions. This especially comes in handy while preparing for musical theatre auditions. Chee

About Jacqueline

Hello future students! I've been playing violin for 20 of my 26 years of age and teaching for 10 years. I believe that the most important part of learning the violin is having fun and building a passion for music.

In my lessons we will focus on proper violin technique, music theory and most importantly (and fun!) practical application. In practical application, the student chooses what he/she would like to work on, whether it be Mozart or The Chainsmokers or the Moana score, and we learn it together!

I also have a lot of experience in music production and engineering which means that my students can professionally record themselves in my home studio.

Finally, I am very proficient in music theory and am available for AP music tutoring. I can also teach beginner piano.

If this sounds like fun to you - let's get started! :)

Teaching method:

I have a three pronged approach to my teaching method: technique, music theory and practical application. However, I believe the most important part of any teaching plan is molding it to fit the student’s needs, so the following methods are entirely flexible.

TECHNIQUE
For technique, we start with simple scales to work on bowing and intonation. When this becomes easy for the student, we move on to more complex key signatures and minor scales, eventually moving into 2 octaves and learning the left hand positions. For intermediate students who want to excel in classical music, we will work on etudes as well as scales.

MUSIC THEORY
I teach music theory as it applies to what the student is currently playing so as not to cause confusion. For example, if the student is learning to play a new piece with a more complex rhythm, we will go over time signatures, how many beats each note gets and so on. I always make flashcards for students so they can “practice” music theory when I’m not there, especially for students who are just learning to read music.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION
In practical application, the student can apply what they learn about technique and music theory to a fun song. I start with the Suzuki books because I like the way they’re structured in terms of technique, and because I love the repertoire. Suzuki books generally come with a CD containing piano accompaniment tracks, which I’ve found students love to play with. Finally, I let the student pick a song of their choice and we learn it together. If the student isn’t enjoying Suzuki, we focus more on the student’s song of choice.

Amazing teacher! Got so much help from her over the years. She has been teaching me for three years now, and it has honestly been so helpful. She is always ahead of time, and reminds me about the lessons. She gives outstanding pieces of music for me to try and I really do enjoy every single one. I truly do learn so much from her and I am extremely happy that I can learn the violin from a professional like her!

About Sarah Lynn

"Music is what feelings sound like." ~Anonymous

Music:
I am a lead vocalist, a pianist and a songwriter. I love all genres of music, harmonizing and songwriting are my passion.

I teach music outside the box by listening to the goals of my students and incorporating passion, inspiration, creativity, and imagination towards those goals. The proper techniques are easily taught in a fun, positive manner instead of something that most people dread to learn or practice.

There are so many different processes individuals use to learn, and being creative is an excellent catalyst to build and motivate learning experiences. I have been teaching piano, singing, composition and songwriting or over five amazing years.

Whilst attending Canyon Crest Academy, I spent 3 years in a vocal conservatory where I dedicated over one thousand hours of

extra-curricular activity in music theory, music history, and classical, operatic, and modern vocal practices. I spent 4 years being a member of their highly esteemed choir. I've been singing in choirs for sixteen years taking on solo roles. The Folklore Guild was a previous choral project I loved being a member of, and I have experience being in a band.

Yoga:
When I was introduced to the world of Yoga, I instantly wanted to understand the historic background and benefits. My yogic journey began with practicing daily yoga at sunrise. Through Rachel Lubich’s School of Yoga, I received my 200-hour Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training hosted by Trilogy Sanctuary in La Jolla, California.

Each path I take guides to seeing and understanding what Yoga means to me. Yoga is an opportunity to find harmony in my mind, body and spirit through my intentions, breath, actions, stillness, movement and music, mindfulness, meditation and truly listening to the highest vibratory version of who I Am on a breath-to-breath rhythm.

"Yoga is not a religion, but an inclusive lifestyle that guides to be the best version of one's Self. Yoga should be for the individual student." ~ Rachel Lubich

About Virginia

Welcome to Takelessons.com! There are many lovely teachers on this site. I am here to help you succeed. I offer English, Writing, Piano, Math, Test Preparation, Dissertation writing, and Homework help.

Music: I can offer you a well rounded plan of study and you can choose what and how you would like to learn. For example, young students generally want to learn to read the notes. For these I give classes in theory, music history, ear training, and technique along with the note reading. Older students generally want to learn to play songs they know by learning notes in the right hand and putting chords in the left hand. For these students, I emphasize the theory so they will understand what notes go together to make a nice sound.

My background has been in church music. I started playing at church for services when I was 16 years old.

About Alex

I have been playing music since the age of 4 starting with cello, then guitar at age 11, and I have learned a variety of different instruments along the way. For 20 of those years I received formal training ranging from Suzuki group classes to 1 on 1 lessons to college music courses. I have 15 years of teaching experience. Note, however, that not all "years of experience" is created equal. I have passionately spent the past 15 years rigorously trying and testing many teaching techniques, approaches, and philosophies in a variety of formats, so that I could provide the most effective and efficient guitar lessons to you the learner. The formats I have taught in include 1 on 1, small group, large group, clinics, workshops, band coaching, instructor training and online 1 on 1. Each format has provided me with a unique learning experienc

e as an instructor that has been vital in allowing me to provide a top level learning experience to those I work with. From 2012-2018 I owned and operated Rock Life Music Academy in Arvada, CO. At the end of that 5 year period I closed the academy to focus on my own personal music endeavors. Out of my passion for teaching I continue to work with a select small group of individuals. Keeping my clientele list small allows me to provide the most focused & effective learning experience possible.

In addition to my first hand teaching experience I have also been trained in the art of teaching. For my first six years of teaching I studied teaching guitar & music with the very accomplished Tom Hess. In addition to Tom I have studied with other top level teachers as well. I am fortunate to have had the resource of consulting with these teachers in regards to teaching matters, and to have been able to build on their knowledge and experience. Furthermore, teaching music runs in my family as my step father is a professor of music at a university and my mother a retired middle school music teacher.

Lastly, to strengthen my abilities as an instructor I have always remained the student whether it's learning a new instrument, language, or martial art. This humbly allows me to relate to and empathize with my students. I am fully prepared to provide you with the best learning experience possible.

"We were so lucky to have been referred to Tommy. Our middle school son wanted to branch out from playing the upright/classic bass, to electric bass and a
coustic guitar. Tommy worked with our son for nearly 2 years. Tommy was always reliable, always prompt, always polite and 100% committed to the music and to our son's personal progress & improvement. He was always flexible, upbeat and easy to work with...with the patience of a saint...esp. for the parent who knows nothing about guitar. A huge talent!"

"She is AMAZING! I'm an actress and had an audition for a musical theatre in about 2 weeks time. I had 5 classes 45 minutes each in two weeks with Stephani
e and saw amazing result. I'm not a singer by any means now but she got me ready and i was able to understand pitch and how to work on a song in a short time. I recommend her 100%. I will be taking more classes with her soon.

Thank you Stephanie"

I know I only have one lesson to go on, but so far I'm feeling very optimistic that Meghan can help me achieve my goals."

Thanks Mark!"

"Kyle is a fantastic guitar teacher! He takes the time to show you how to play guitar with good fundamentals, and teaches you a little bit of music theory
along the way without making it complicated. I tried learning on my own using online TABs and Youtube videos and a game called Rocksmith. This was a good start, but eventually I hit a wall and wasn’t really progressing. Kyle has really helped me develop my skills. We went over all the basics like how to hold a pick, how to hold the guitar, how to play single notes vs. chords, palm muting and alternate picking. I was missing all of this technique before and I was actually making playing the guitar more difficult than it needed to be! Kyle explained it all in a very easy to understand way and gives you as much detail as you need. I like lots of detail, so we went over everything! He knows a lot of little tips and tricks from playing as long as he has and this is the kind of priceless information you can't get elsewhere. He's very easy to talk to and has a breadth of knowledge on all kinds of music. We normally geek out about anything from Jimi Hendrix to 90’s music to more modern music and everything in between. I can’t say enough about how knowledgeable he is – highly recommended!"

"The first thing that struck us is how nice a person he is. Very kind, patient , friendly and obviously talented. He works with my 9 year old. We have been
taking lessons from him for about a year and half now. Although he is our only teacher, we have been very happy with him and never felt the need to look further. He has the natural ability to work with children, encouraging them to have the self confidence. My daughter's confidence has improved by leaps and bounds. He recognizes area of improvement and works very hard to get push her to be better than she thinks she can be. I drive an hour for our lesson and I will continue to do so without second thoughts. He is truly an amazing person. highly recommend!!!"

Learn Guitar Now | How to Read Tabs

By Megan L.

Although learning to read sheet music is a valuable skill for any musician, most guitarists prefer to use a different type of notation known as guitar tablature or guitar tabs. Guitar tabs give a basic visual representation of the neck of your guitar and use numbers to indicate which notes are to be played. Learning how to read tabs is pretty simple, and, once you get the hang of it, you can easily learn new songs or write down compositions of your own. How to Read Tabs Guitar tabs are …
