Opera is such a beautiful genre that I love to sing! As with any student you learn all vocal techniques. Attention to detail is what sets this genre apart so we explore challenging concepts and tools to really help your instrument reach it's fullest potential. We cannot stop at just a good vocal sound however, the full performance is explored from musical tools to acting through the song and staging/gestures.

About Marissa

My musical journey started in high school when my algebra teacher saw me in the hallway, grabbed my hand and brought me to the choir room to sign up for The Sound of Music auditions. To this day I cannot believe my math teacher unknowingly sent me straight down a path that I would walk the rest of

I am currently pursuing my doctoral degree at the Eastman School of Music in vocal performance and literature. I believe in empowering my students so that they can sing in all styles of music that interest them with ease and freedom. Good singing is good singing and I am comfortable teaching classical, musical theater, pop, jazz, country etc. I like to set up my students with a strong foundation for singing so that they can practice efficiently and overcome vocal obstacles without my instruction.

About Michael

Hello everyone, I am Michael - I am currently in school at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY pursuing my doctoral degree in vocal performance and literature. I have sung all over the world in operas, musicals and with professional choirs. I enjoy teaching all levels of singing and love

I started lessons with Michael having done both contemporary voice and years of choir. But prior to training with Michael, I'd never really been coached as to how to properly sing in a classical style. He's allowed me to find an entire element of my voice I didn't know I had and made it incredibly straightforward to progress. I now absolutely love singing in a way I didn't previously think I would.

Michael is knowledgeable, funny, and thoughtful. I am a wind instrumentalist, and Michael tailored voice lessons to discuss topics specifically related to my areas of experience. I would highly recommend Michael for voice lessons!

Kevin
I have been taking lessons with Sammy for a month now. I am very green when it comes to singing and I am extremely self-conscious about my voice and had never really sung in front of anyone before. Sammy provided me with exactly what I was looking for, direct feedback. At the first lesson, he had me perform a vocal warm-up so that he could evaluate my instrument. We then discussed genres I like, and what goals I was trying to achieve. He then asked me to chose a song to sing and sing it. He identified things off the bat that I had not thought about and gave me exercises to help work on what we discussed. Week to week we built off of what we identified the previous week and I am seeing progress. He is good about explaining things if I don't understand the concept and he provides examples of what he is talking about. It's been a great experience and I highly recommend Sammy as an instructor.

"It has been both a pleasure and a blessing for me to have Ms. Collver as my voice instructor. Within the first two lessons she was able to immediately recognize what we needed to work on the most in order to bring out the best of my voice and so she created a well developed plan that we have been productively working on. Furthermore, Ms. Collver, does a great job at making one comfortable and confident every step of the progress by making sure each concept she teaches is firmly grasped."

"This was my first experience with voice lessons, and Cris the best teacher I could have hoped for! He has introduced me to all sorts of music techniques that I’m sure I will need when I leave to study music in college, and he helped me to prepare any vocal requirements I might have to fill. He is always patient, knowledgeable, and easy to get along with; and he has inspired me to continue studying opera in the future. I would highly recommend him for any level of vocalist! :)"

"Julian has truly been a God-send for me. A brilliant, musician, technician and teacher. He is intelligent, patient, sensitive…so highly in tune with the voice. To say he knows the instrument well is an understatement.  And, just as important, he knows how to work with you as an individual. He has such a skillful way, as any great teacher should, of explaining what he is trying to convey in a variety of ways to help YOU as the student understand. Not all teachers are able to do that, but Julian can. And he makes sure that you understand so you can be your own technician and master of your instrument. I trust Julian. He has helped me and continues to help me understand and find MY voice."

8 Beautiful Opera Arias for Beginner Singers

It is always exciting when a vocal student is ready to start studying his or her first operatic aria! One of the best things about being a classical singer is knowing you have so many great years ahead of you. After all, you’re considered in your prime in your 40s. That being said, realize that the voice you have now and the repertoire you’ll first study will be very, very different from what you sing later on in your career. It’s absolutely crucial that you sing repertoire that is …
