I started playing guitar originally in 1991. I picked up bass and ukulele (and then over the ensuing years, gradually a plethora of other instruments, such as voice, drums, piano, and harp). I started teaching in 2001 throughout the Chicagoland area. First in music stores, then schools, then people

First lesson was great. It took a little time setting up and getting to know each other. For a first lesson, I came away with some very useful information on a song I was having a problem with. I like the direction it is going. Looking forward to the next lesson.

I enjoy passing on wisdom gained from years of playing in professional bands and studying music to people of all ages. I continue to strive to push the limits of my playing, and encourage my students to do the same. I maintain a relaxed, anxiety-free teaching style that is focused on the individual goals of each student, no matter what their level of experience and stylistic preferences might be.

I picked up my first guitar at the age of 13, and has been addicted to it ever since. I currently play guitar for internationally touring video game metal band Powerglove, as well as nationally touring progressive metal band Lattermath. Prior to moving to Los Angeles in January 2019, I was based in Boston, playing in a number of critically-acclaimed bands.

In high school, I studied guitar with Joe Stump, ranked as the Number 6 Fastest Shredder of All Time by Guitar One magazine, as well as traveling to Sweden in 2008 to study with Mattias "IA" Eklundh, recognized as one of the most ...

Hiring J.R. has been an incredibly uplifting, fun, and educational experience. A far better experience than I could have asked or hoped for. I’m learning! And excited for the progress, which does take an investment of practice, energy & time. He is extremely patient & flexible with how to cope with my needs (when possible) and super supportive: I’m almost 50 and paralyzed.

As corny as this sounds I’ve never known anyone with such a broad overall knowledge, experience and wisdom about music and instruments. If I have a question about my piano playing, or virtually any music question, he either has the answer or helps me find it if he doesn’t.

He is extremely knowledgeable and respectful and has more than earned my respect and gratitude.

Hiring him is one of the best choices I’ve ever made. The only regret I have is that I didn’t hire him sooner.

Thanks for letting me provide a reference for Alex. I have taken alto sax lessons from him over the years, starting about 4-5 years ago. Alex is a great musician and teacher. Each lesson was consistently structured for: sound quality and listening, technical work and reading, duets, and improvisation. Rather than heavy music theory, he would instead provide routines to reinforce these concepts. He was always patient, and emphasized what I did well, with subtle redirection to correct problems. I definitely improved under his guidance and teaching.

The only reason I stopped seeing him was that my job became very demanding, and I could not devote enough time to practice and justify the time and cost of lessons. But even when I showed up unprepared, he was understanding and flexible to work with me.

If it would have been possible to have Alex come to me, I would have welcomed that.

As a first lesson, we went through my existing equipment and goals for writing/producing my own work, and she gave me an online review of what we discussed next steps were for me. I truly feel she can teach me how to be a better guitarist in a structured, positive and comfortable way. 15 Things Singers Know All Too Well | Singing Techniques for Beginners

Singers, this is your life. 15. For some reason, your voice always sounds extra amazing in the shower. So work it! The shower is basically your own personal vocal booth. The small space and smooth hard walls give you a volume boost plus a healthy dose of reverb. What singer doesn't love that? 14. That awkward moment when you are the only person singing along. What? I love this song! Some people might not get it, but for singers, grooving along to that certain, special song …
