Ciao, my name is Milko and I am a native Italian speaker who currently lives in Chicago. I love languages and I'm passionate about the skills that make us able to express ourselves in any situation. My lessons will use materials taken from real life, like songs, short stories, videos or article from Italian newspapers. We can talk about literature, cinema, cuisine, tourism or anything you will find more interesting. We will take care of grammar rules and common mistakes that will make you sound like a pro Italian speaker. I offer in person and online classes for all skill levels.

I feel that learning in general and learning a foreign language in particular is about repetition and I ask my students to repeat everything I teach over and over again until they know it by heart. I keep my lessons simple to avoid overwhelming the students and to allow time for them to repeat what they learned earlier. I teach the words that form part of the so called core vocabulary; words that are chosen according to frequency and range (in the sense that they “occur across a wide variety of texts”) It is often said that the first 2000 most frequent words cover approximately 90% of the vocabulary used by native-speakers in daily conversations. This means that for a student they represent the basic resource to be able to communicate.

As a native Italian who has lived in several Italian cities including Rome for over 30 years, I have a comprehensive understanding of the Italian language and culture. Along with my knowledge and experience as a native Italian speaker, I also have over 20 years of activity as an educator, which allows me to tailor to the needs of my students. I really enjoy sharing my knowledge and helping my students along their path of learning the Italian language.

I'm an experienced Italian teacher - I was born and raised in Italy and I graduated from the University "La Sapienza" in Rome with a Master Degree in Italian Literature and History. I've been teaching Italian and Italian history for the past 10 years of my career. Both in Colleges here in the U.S.A. and online.
I offer a very proficient method of learning. Part of the lesson would be focused on the grammar and writing, part of the lesson would consist in one to one conversation. Depending on the level of my students, we would develop the vocabulary on a daily basis and I can guarantee my students will be able to have a conversation in Italian within just a few lessons!

Conversation is in my opinion the most efficient method for remembering words long term and also the best method to learn grammar without stress. I am an Italian native speaker and through my teaching style I intend to boost your motivation to continue learning.
