I teach Music Theory to all ages, both as preparation for the AP Music Theory test, for remedial study for high school, college, and graduate-level music theory, and to those who just want to learn how to be better performers and composers through a more comprehensive knowledge of theory. To me, music theory is not a boring, pedantic study - it is the study of what makes music work, how it moves us, how the great composers and songwriters thought. It is the architecture of music and can give us invaluable clues as to how to perform or compose a given piece of music. I teach everything from the absolute basics of note names and durations to advanced classical and jazz theory and analysis, modes, jazz harmony, orchestration, set theory, serialism, and extended techniques. I also teach lessons in Sibelius music notation software and Logic Pro music sequencing software.

As a musician, I am also a freelance artist an I have my own painting studio and gallery as well. I love to travel and teach so this is why I would love to teach online.

I believe that no matter music or art, they are all medium to nuture your own creativity and make you feel more alive.

I always encourage my students to be imaginative when it comes to interpret music. I believe one can play well have to learn how to appreciate music first.
Only with the students' own internalization of the music, the music can be alive.

To play music well means one has to understand the song from all different perspectives, not only the techniques but also the learn the musical themes that the composer intended to express.

And the most interesting part comes to the performer add his/her own touch and imagination, preference to the original piece.

I would love to share the joy of playing music with my students.
I will teach my students the lessons of techniques and expressions separately ...

"I’ve been taking voice lessons with Michele for almost a year now. She has helped me to gain confidence in my vocal ability, range, and interpretation of songs. Through helping me create a more solid foundation for my voice, I believe I have the tools to sing over a plethora of musical styles (Musical Theatre, Operetta, Classical, etc.) Michele’s dedication & belief in her students, eagerness for them to succeed, and reach new heights in their singing voices is commendable! The energy & spirit that she exudes in her voice lessons, whether in-person or online, is contagious which leaves you feeling elated and determined to continue practicing your singing!"

"Vandi was super nice, patient (way more patient than I was watching my 6 yr old's first lesson!) and kind. She taught my daughter her first simple song, which she was so excited about. She also gave her the homework to write her own song which she IMMEDIATELY did after the lesson. I'm still not completely sure that online lessons will be right for us long term, but if we continue then Vandi is certainly a wonderful fit for my young child."

"When I first started taking singing lessons with Jordan a year ago, I was an absolute novice whose singing experience was limited to my car and the shower. I've learned so much from her in that time. With her help, my vocal range has expanded, my tone and control have improved, and my understanding of music has deepened. Jordan does an amazing job of learning her student's voices and tailoring her lessons to each individual. In our lessons, she goes beyond teaching the mere mechanics, and has really helped me interpret songs and find meaning in what I'm singing. I come out of each lesson newly inspired to continue working. Her instruction and guidance have truly helped me discover my newfound passion in life."

He picked out many great things in her playing that made the overall piece sound better and more developed. We're looking forward to our next lesson."

5 Reasons My Guitar Might Be My Best Friend

Music can be a very rewarding experience - and a personal one, at that. Most musicians spend a LOT of time with their instrument, often baring their souls in the form of melodies and lyrics. If you treat your guitar like part of the family - or your best friend - you'll relate to what Gresham, OR guitar teacher Ed P. has to say here...   Did you know that some of the old blues players named their guitars?  Some of them were even rumored to sleep with their guitars.  I’m not saying tha …
