Give anyone a drum and they will instantly know what to do. Drums are meant to be hit, and for those who love to hit things and make loud noises. Bongo drum lessons are an easy way to introduce students to the world of drumming, rhythm and music.

The goal is listening for cues, hearing patterns and feeling rhythm and beat. Ideally, each student has their own drum. Begin with a simple repeat and answer pattern. You hit the drum two times, they repeat. Gradually add to the complexity of the patterns, so they must listen intently. Add some simple rhythms, such as 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1, with a strong emphasis on the 1.

I am a Emmy Nominated drummer for my outstanding role in the 2015 Stage Musical "Oh Gospel" The Evolution of Gospel Music. My drumming & percussion career has launch me into one of the most sought after instructors & drummers of our time. I have performed with many Stellers & Grammy artist such as Richard Smallwood, Tamela Mann, Marvin Sapp, Dorinda Clark Cole, Isaiah D Thomas, American Idol contestants and Sunday Best contestants just to name a few. I currently play full time at the New Antioch Baptist Church of Randallstown in Baltimore MD where the congregation is over 10,000 members. I am very proud of the releasing of my latest DVD entitle "Piper's Time 2 Groove" & "Nothing Too Hard" video to inspire all musicians around the World. With the launching of Passionate Drumming & Music Lessons, I am dedicated to equipping all my students with the instructions for reaching students goals. I welcome all students any age, any skill level. Hope to have you as a new student very soon!

*** Lesson Details ***
My students will quickly learn the basics of drumming, including: stick control, technique, rhythms, drum fills, and licks. It does not matter if you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced drummer. The same time and effort will be exercised. We will have a fun and meaningful time playing, both by ear and by reading music. These lessons will really be hands on using teaching methods such as music books, DVD’s, and playing of my own. Students will have a great time also studying music theory, learning how to assemble the drum set, learning the parts of the drums, how to tune the drums, and how to accompany other musical instruments. After 3 to 6 months taking lessons, all students will be well on their way to a very successful musical career having had such fun and learning to play all different styles of music. My motto: Lets play Good, get Better, and be our Best!

Private Bongo Teacher

Dave Y. studied Afro-Cuban Percussion, Percussion and Drums at the University of Northern Colorado, the nation's 3rd largest Jazz school. He brings 17+ years of education and teaching experience to the table.

About Dave

I own a local music/art/production institution which hosts lessons for many instruments and artistic pursuits. Personally, I've been teaching for over 17 years, and I teach beginner to advanced students in instruments like guitar, bass, piano/keys, voice, and drums, and depending on your needs, our studio offers a variety of professional teachers that teach all woodwind, brass, and stringed instruments.

I also am an online teacher for a the world's biggest web platform for guitar instruction, and teach lessons alongside those in Berklee alumni, Musician's Institute, as well with many very famous artists that are now in the music business.

Though I've had the fortune to work with some of the best in studios, as a songwriter, and player, and in education, both professional and informal, I love to teach entry level players up through

the intermediate levels the most. I enjoy watching people discover things for the first time, and in my teaching I really do my best to craft my lessons to the needs of the students. My primary aim in teaching is that I would cultivate in my students a love for music and learning. With these two things in place, a student can go on to be and learn anything.

Join me, we'll have a great time, and we'll get you to your goals while we're enjoying the journey of music together!!

Dave is the absolute “best” teacher I have ever had! I’m an older (69) student and his techniques amaze me. I’m learning things I have never been exposed to and so wish I had had a teacher like Dave when I was 10...maybe I would be able to play! Thanks Dave!

The drums are the backbone of most music, so you have to be able to feel the groove and stay tight and on top of the beat. I encourage students to pick their favorite songs, and we drum to those while learning proper technique, rudiments, song form, fills, rhythm, different grooves / beats, and anything they want to know about the drums. I have been playing the drums for over sixteen years and have a Bachelor's Degree in Music from the Berklee College of Music. Drums is a beautiful art and form of expression and is just the tip of the iceberg we can tackle called Music.

About Eric

MUSIC!
I think music is the most beautiful thing in the world, so lets take time to learn and play music together.
I have been playing the drums for over sixteen years, and been in over fifteen bands in the course of that time. I have a degree in Music from the Berklee College of Music were I studied music theory and focused on Music Production and Engineering. I have been playing Piano, Bass, and Guitar for about ten years in addition to the drums, and have been recorded in sessions on each. I have a deep passion for synthesizers and electronic music, so lets make some bleeps and bloops together.

I am extremely kind, friendly, and funny so lessons with me are very relaxed and have an easy to learn environment. However I am very passionate about teaching to fit student needs; so if a student likes deadlines and homework, if that is w

hat will help them learn the best, then that is how I will teach.
Lets make some sweet music together!!
~Eric

My students have fun and learn quickly! I teach all skill levels and all styles of percussion, specializing in drum set, orchestra percussion, and four mallet marimba. Every beginner that takes a lesson with me with be able to play a drum beat and a snare drum piece on day one. After a few more lessons, they will be learning songs and creating their own drum beats! All ages welcome. Lessons are customized and catered to the needs/goals of each student.

About Nicholas

I am a professional drummer and percussionist. Currently playing with Meadow Brook Theatre's musical productions, in a four piece hard rock band- Rezination, and with the Adrian and Rochester Symphonies. I graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelors of Music Education.

My students can expect to improve every week in their drumming technique and musicality. Every drummer has a unique voice; I teach students foundational techniques in order to unlock their own individual sound. I encourage students to drum with freedom, confidence, and expression.

I teach students of all different ages and experience levels. Students can learn to play contemporary music by ear, by using lead sheets, and how to read music and pursue classical excellence. I also teach rudimental snare drum, marching tenors (quads), four mallet mari

mba, timpani, and hand drums.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced musician, I can offer an enjoyable and rewarding experience! I have two decades experience teaching percussion and my most recent appointments include:
2016-18: Visiting Assistant Professor of Percussion, University of Wyoming
2012-16: Lecturer, University of Colorado-Denver
2012-18: Practicing Artist, Denver School of the Arts

I offer lessons (live and synchronous online) from my studio in Longmont, CO as well as in-home lessons in surrounding communities.

About Ed

I'm a percussionist, composer and educator. I hold a Masters degree in Jazz Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado-Boulder and a Bachelor of Music Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

From 2016-2018, I was the Visiting Assistant Professor of Percussion at the University of Wyoming (UW). At UW, I oversaw all facets of the percussion area including teaching all applied percussion students, percussion ensemble, percussion methods and jazz ensemble. Before UW, I taught percussion, music theory, ear training and jazz improvisation at the University of Colorado-Denver. and the Denver School of the Arts (DSA).

I've also had the good fortune to perform with many musical luminaries including: Phil Woods, Terell Stafford, Joel Frahm, Bob Reynolds, Andy Laverne, Jon Faddis, the Louisvil

le Symphony, the CCM Philharmonia, Michael Rodriguez, Von Freeman, David “Fathead” Newman and Greg Osby.

My goal as a teacher is to maintain the enthusiasm students enjoy when they begin drum lessons. Every student hopes that beginning drum lessons is the start of an exhilarating and rewarding experience. I sustain this interest by empowering students’ musical improvement and achievement.

Lessons are structured around 8-16 week performance projects and feature a unique teaching method that maximizes each student’s musical capabilities. My approach utilizes video instruction and communication to enhance the traditional lesson format. I also integrate and utilize parents of younger beginning students (8-12) into the lesson curriculum. These methods optimize the student’s practice time between lessons and translate to student success!

If you’ve seen Ed play, then you’ve seen that he is incredibly dedicated to detail and precision. These qualities translate to how he explains concepts and teaches. I attribute so much of the success I’ve achieved on the drum set to what Ed has provided for me.

Ed, I would like to thank you, and commend you for the dedication and superior training you provided to my son, Sterling. Sterling joined your studio young and lacking confidence in his drumming. You had great enthusiasm to keep him inspired and motivated yet, held him accountable to reach your expectations. He gained incredible strides working with you in all aspects of percussion!!! Also, you were a strong, respected leader resident teaching the students at The Denver School of the Arts. I would highly refer you to anyone seeking a quality, talented and over all good person who truly cares about his students to join your drumming studio.
