Having 10 years of experienced cello teaching, I feel very comfortable helping my students understand the foundations of cello technique. I graduated with a Bachelors of Music from the music conservatory Cleveland Institute of Music, and got my Masters in Music from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music.

In addition, I completed a 2 year rigorous Suzuki Technique Pedagogy Program where I am now certified to teach all 10 levels of the cello books. I am confident in explaining any questions a student may have. I love to make practicing a game, so that way we are developing the proper skills but also challenging ourselves while having fun! Even I can understand that practicing can get tiresome and dull at times!

As a traveling musician who has performed all over the world, I feel it is important for students to appreciate all types of music. While classical training and technique are absolutely crucial to the beginning stages of a student's development, I like to show ...

Mr. Jesse is a very effective teacher and my 16 year old daughter has progressed very quickly in playing classical guitar and violin in just under two years. The lessons are very productive while still being very enjoyable. I'd recommend him for both for students who are learning a new instrument or already have a musical background.

Ribal has been a fantastic Cello instructor for my child. This was my son's first time trying a string instrument, and he has absolutely loved the experience. Ribal is very enthusiastic about teaching music and has been able to introduce the instrument in a very friendly and fun way, which has kept my son interested. We are still participating in lessons and loving it, and we are also planning on starting music theory lessons to help introduce him to basic note reading. We highly recommend Ribal!

I am 12 years old and have been playing cello for 6 years. Caleb was my instructor at the Mark O'Connor string camp. The week before our lesson, he recorded an accompaniment for a piece we would be working on, and it was great to get a head start and to be able to play with him. We worked on bluegrass practicing techniques and improvising with blues scales. It was some super cool music and thanks to Caleb, my playing is improving!
Yutae(Albert)
Being my very first cello instructor, Caleb not only taught me how to play, but gave me a desire. Usually, the first experience determines the outcome of what happens, for example, if you never enjoy an instrument, it is inevitable that you would drop it quite soon. However, Caleb found me real enthusiasm and motivation. Even though I am no longer his student, I always look forward to hearing any news about him, from a simple hello to him posting a new video of his performances. Without someone like him, I probably would have had given up cello after my first year. He is the most enjoyable and helpful instructor so far.

An experienced performer and teacher, I have been teaching privately since 2014. I am a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and a former member of the Indianapolis Symphony. I usually work with intermediate and college students, but I have also worked with beginners.

I am currently an Artist in Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium and have an active performance career, which is why I now primarily teach online. My teaching philosophy relies – as it did with my own professors – in sharing my personal connection with the music and giving guidance that will both make you a more solid player technically, as well as a more capable and expressive musician.

I use the same approach, regardless of whether you are pursuing music as a career or you're doing it just for the love of it (although I do also give advice on navigating the academic and professional landscape to those who want it). My main goal at the end of the day, is to help my students find a deeper ...

When I first went to Mr. Mowitz, I hoped to improve my cello technique above all else. As a result, Mr. Mowitz prescribed me a customized list of repertoire to practice that would help me focus on technique including the Popper etudes, the Bach suites, and the Cossman exercises. However, to ensure that our lessons would not purely be technique-based, Mr. Mowitz helped me understand the musical beauty behind more lyrical pieces such as the Boccherini cello concerto or the Saint Saens cello concerto while also demonstrating the techniques we'd been practicing in application to these concertos. Mr. Mowitz never assumes a fully comprehensive understanding of cello technique and musicality even for his intermediate-advanced students (which I would have considered myself as when I started to learn from him) and thus always has something new to teach as much as he reminds his students of the importance of certain fundamentals like a relaxed body when playing. I would say with full confidence that my cello playing significantly improved under Mr. Mowitz. His teaching helped me gain access by audition to advanced musical opportunities such as performing in the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and participating in the Snitzer Quartet in the Settlement Music School Advanced Study Program. These opportunities, in turn, and the musical "arts supplements" for cello that I eventually made furthermore helped me gain admission into schools including Harvard and Stanford, on what I would consider was largely a technical base taught to me by Mr. Mowitz. I truly hope that more people are able to experience the blessing of Mr. Mowitz's teaching!

Zachary is a fantastic cello teacher, I would highly recommend him to students of all levels. He is incredibly patient, and his passion for music teaching and performance is very infectious. He is very good at communicating nuanced ideas, both technical and musical, and can demonstrate them with ease. It’s been a great pleasure working with him!

Is There Such Thing as a Left-Handed Cello? How to Play as a Leftie

Handedness is the sense that one hand is more dexterous or coordinated compared to the other. Researchers usually determine an individual’s handedness by observing which hand is used to write or eat. Although the causes of handedness are not fully understood, about 10% of the population is left handed or ambidextrous according to Dr. M.K. Holder, a researcher and specialist on handedness. Many left handed students wonder if they will need a specialized instrument in order to learn to play …

What Are the Names of the Cello's Parts? A Closer Look

The string family has a unique history, and a very unique look. There are also internal posts and sound bars which allow the body to function as an acoustic amplifier across the cello’s wide range. What are the Hardest Cello Pieces? How to Get from Beginner to Advanced Player

As a beginner I often told myself I would know I am a really great cellist when I could play Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee at full speed. To my young ears, this simply had to be one of the hardest cello pieces with its high range, chromaticism, and famously fast tempo. As my musical career continued I worked on these and other skills to reach a point I could begin learning the piece confidently, and it was only a matter of time before I achieved my goal. Of course, this wasn’ …
