I took lessons with Rahny last year. She helped me to refine my essay writing skills. I had never written an essay before. I’d never had a portfolio before either, but it has come in handy in more ways than I ever could’ve imagined. I’ve referenced the materials on vocabulary, pronunciation and essay writing exercises a dozen times. She still takes the time to answer some of my questions.

Thanks for all your patience even though I was running late. I was all ready to cancel my lesson, but you encouraged me to keep my goals in mind and keep moving forward. I loved that you adjusted the material accordingly and worked through the homework together with me. I look forward to our next session. :)
Natasha
Rahny is very interesting in her approach. It is great how she goes about sharing ideas, extending the discussion and engaging with me and the content. She brings so much liveliness to the class. The texts are very good, practical and related directly to my goals of wanting better communication with my colleagues.

Hello! English can be hard. I get that. As an immigrant to the United States, I remember struggling through elementary and middle school and always feeling behind because of my English. Now, as a college graduate, fluent in 4 languages, and has worked as a translator, I understand how to teach language because I have had to implement some of these very same techniques to teach myself. Learning a language should not be boring. Language is alive. It’s spoken. It’s nuanced. It’s how we connect with one another. I would love the opportunity to help you connect through English.

About Ozioma

Hello there! My name is Ozi! I am a native of Nigeria, but raised in Atlanta, Ga. I love music, photography, and travel, and would love to be your tutor!

Hi!

I've been teaching English online to children and adults for over 3 years. 100% of lessons with me are done in English. In general, lessons with me will follow along in a text book of my choice based on the students' comprehension level. Throughout lessons, I also focus on pronunciation, no matter the student's level.

For beginners, I use pictures, body language and props to help students learn new words and understand important concepts as they are breached in the book. The focus in the first 6 months of lessons is for the student to gain a comprehensive vocabulary arsenal along with a basic understanding of sentence structure and grammar.

For intermediate students the pace changes quite a bit. The focus in class becomes grammar and sentence structure, relying on the student to make notes on new words and study them outside of class. At this level, we start to look into cultural expressions and idioms. I also begin to push students to ask and answer questions using the words ...

I can teach primary and middle school students English especially if they are from China.

About Grace

An experienced, patient, sweet and funny Chinese tutor to all levels and ages, I have been teaching and tutoring Chinese language over 10 years. I am originally from China, a native Mandarin Chinese speaker with a master degree. I studied in a law school, got my master degree and lawyer license,

Grace is very patient and knowledgeable. I am learning how to read, write, speak and understand the language and with her teaching skills I’m surprised at how fast I’m learning it. Would definitely recommend her.
Trish
I am taking Mandarin lessons from Grace because I am adopting a child from China and want to have some basic communication skills. I have never been good at learning languages, and I was hesitant because I know Mandarin is one of the most difficult languages to learn. After just 3 lessons, I am learning and I love it! I have had so much fun with Grace! She is a fabulous teacher. She is patient, kind and personable. She presents the material so that it is understandable. I am actually learning and remembering what I learned. I originally planned to take 10 one-hour lessons so I have a good basic knowledge, but I am absolutely going to continue taking lessons with her when the 10th is done. The time I spend with Grace just flies by, and I look forward to our lessons. I am so thrilled that I found Grace, and relieved that she is able to present the material to me in a such fun and comprehensible way.

I chose to take lessons with Grace because she teaches people of all ages. I am 51 years old. When my child arrives home from China this year, he will be approximately 2 years old. I look forward to taking lessons in the future with my child and having Grace teach both of us. Learning about China and the language will help my child and me connect to each other and to his culture and homeland. Thank you, Grace, for helping me on my adoption journey and beyond!

ESL Learners: Are You Making These 21 Common Mistakes?

There are certainly some tricky words in the English language! And sometimes, people who have learned English as a second language mix up these words. Want to avoid making the same mistakes? Here are the words ESL learners misuse the most. Them, Those, and These "Them" is a pronoun that stands in the place of a plural noun. It is commonly used as the subject of a sentence, as in: Did you see them? or Have you seen the scissors? I used them to cut the labels off my T-shirts; now I can’t fin …
