As a passionate cello player, I want my students to have fun but also really understand their instrument and the music they are playing! Students will learn their scales through the circle of fifths, shifting positions, vibrato techniques, music theory, and performing with an accompanist. They are expected to have fun but to work hard - it’s totally worth it!

About Melissa

I have been playing piano for 23 years and cello for 16 years. I love sharing music with others and seeing them grow to love music as well. I am currently a pianist for the KC Ballet’s ROAD program. I have a Bachelors of Music from Lindenwood University. I have been a piano accompanist for 7 years.

One of my favorite things about humanity is how we all learn differently. I aim to cater my teaching to each student to best prepare them as musicians, performers, and possibly future educators. I adhere to the "canon" of cello playing, but spice it up to appeal to each student and keep them passionately in love with their instrument.

About Katrina

A little about me personally: I am a native Wisconsinite, an avid cellist, and lifetime music lover. I have been teaching cello lessons privately off and on for the last 9 years and hold a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire. In my school years, I participated

In addition to my teaching in private studio, public and private schools, colleges and universities, I’m a concert cellist with experience performing as soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player, I empathize with students problems to solve and the art of interpretation, living music to the highest levels , I was taught by great artists.

About Marcelo

I always loved teaching cello, music theory or composition. I have the experience as a professional cellist as soloist, chamber musician and performing in an orchestra. But since I started to teach very young I know how to address student's needs, approaches to achieve their goals, whether is to

"We love Mr. Heaton. My son is 13 and on the autism spectrum and so focus can be hard for him, he was really struggling in school based orchestra because they couldn't give him one on one attention. He also struggles with fine motor delays (which is why we chose a string instrument). We've been doing lessons with Nicholas for almost a year now. Nicholas always takes his time with my child and is extremely patient. My son has gained SO much confidence since we began taking these private lessons. They work on not just learning to play cello but learning how to really understand/read the music and making sure that the techniques he's learning (hand positions, ways of sitting and moving) are all exactly what he needs to progress successfully in his orchestra and going forward. My son enjoys his lessons and I feel like we always get our money's worth. I can't wait to see where he will be another year from now working so closely with such an amazing musician and teacher."

"It’s true what the other reviews say about her kindness and patience. Lenna is a warm, thoughtful and generous human being. She also happens to be a gifted teacher and skilled cellist. She is able to correct tiny details in my playing that make a huge difference in sound. Better yet, she approaches it in a way that I might be able to make those corrections for myself, by asking me what I heard first and listening to my observations. Also her approach to practice and playfulness is something I aim to use in many aspects of my life."

"Ryan was great. He put to ease a nervous almost 8 year old and was very skilled at playing her music "on tap." He hadn't seen some of the music until the lesson but you would never know it. He picked out many great things in her playing that made the overall piece sound better and more developed. We're looking forward to our next lesson."

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
