My name is Julia and I'm the Principal Bassoonist of the Nashville Symphony and the Santa Fe Opera. Additionally, I regularly perform with the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. I have a Bachelors degree from the Curtis Institute of Music and I previously studied at the Montréal Music Conservatory.
As a soloist, I performed numerous times with the Nashville Symphony, Les Violons du Roy and Trois-Rvières Symphony.
As a teacher, I specialize in audition preparation and mental game coaching. I adjust my teaching to your personal goals! From reed making to excerpts, I'm here to help you!

I'm a professional, classically trained bassoonist that plays with orchestras, chamber ensembles, and rock bands. I've been teaching private lessons for over 15 years and I'm available to work with students at any age and skill level including beginners, intermediate students who want to improve their skills (or are picking up the bassoon after time away), as well as advanced students looking for audition and performance coaching. Lessons with me are always positive, supportive, and tailored to each individual's goals and needs.

My method of teaching is motivating and rewarding, and my students always succeed on their scale tests, Region and All State auditions, and college auditions. We can work on major and minor scales, beginner to advanced etudes, solo literature, audition etudes, orchestral excerpts, contemporary music and extended techniques, music theory, and more.

Bassoon:
A woodwind instrument in the double reed family that typically plays music written in the bass and tenor clefs, and occasionally the treble. Appearing in its modern form in the 19th century, the bassoon figures prominently in orchestral, concert band, and chamber music literature. The bassoon is a non-transposing instrument known for its distinctive tone colour, wide range, variety of character and agility. Listeners often compare its warm, dark, reedy timbre to that of a male baritone voice. Someone who plays the bassoon is called a bassoonist. The lessons will consist of breathing and finger techniques, learning notes and rhythms and how to read. Very quickly songs will be incorporated and as the student progresses we will work on learning scales and how to solo.

I am an active performer and teacher of bassoon, and am still an active learner on my instrument. Lessons with me are fun, engaging, and informative on this unique and often difficult instrument. I strive for my students to love the bassoon and enjoy working on their craft, whether a beginning band student or an aspiring professional. I earned my Masters of Music in Bassoon Performance at University of North Carolina, Greensboro and my Bachelors of Music in Bassoon Performance from Sacramento State University.
