I use vocalizes to teach change in the voice and also different types of music to attain a better sound. I try to make it as physical as possible since so much of the effort depends on the brain. I want to help each student achieve their goal. Together we can get to that sound which is uniquely you.

About Cathryn

Hello! My name is Cathy and I have been teaching voice (singing) for over 30 years. But don't let that fool you into thinking I'm a stogy old girl who doesn't have a pulse on contemporary music. I teach pop, country, broadway, folk, whatever it is your interested in. I do teach with vocal exerc

Experienced teacher of 20+ years, specializing in the beginner/intermediate piano student! All ages welcome. Lessons are customized and catered to the needs/goals of each student. Not only will you be playing songs in no time, but you will be building a strong foundation of note reading, music theory, ear training, sight reading, technique, and more. Let's get started!

For beginners, I highly recommend starting with a 30-minute lesson. Intermediate and advanced should consider 45-minute lessons. 60-min lessons are available but are only recommended on a case-by-case basis. Please take into consideration your student's current skill level when deciding on the lesson length.

This is the voice that emerges when we let go of the effort of the ego, when we find a place of compassion and acceptance of where we are in the moment, our natural voice, when we shift from being "the singer" to the one "being sung".
I encourage the art of free voice, joyful singing and unbridled expression, empowering and inspiring the individual to deeper listening and awareness. We will explore the subtle balance of power and surrender, and create a deeper understanding of our individual voices.
my aim is to empower and inspire you to sing freely and with your own full expression, gaining more awareness of the connection between your voice, breath, and body.

"Greg has been teaching me acoustic guitar for almost a year now. His passion for what he does comes out in his teaching and his students are the better for it. He really helped me grow as a new guitar player and I have him to thank for that. In addition to being very knowledgeable about music, he was extremely flexible in developing a curriculum that fit what I was looking for. Very highly recommended!"

She's helped me win international violin competitions that gave me opportunities to perform in Carnegie Hall. She recently prepared me for an audition for a prestigious music school, which I got accepted into. Her lessons are fun and interesting, and very, very helpful.

"I've always had singing lessons on my bucket list. So at age 45+ I decided to give it a try with online lessons from Tanisha. I can't say enough about these lessons. Tanisha is a real pro. Even over Skype she was able to identify the habits and idiosyncrasies that were impacting my singing and provide me with some easy ways to improve my voice. She has the technical knowledge and skill to help shower singers like myself or rising stars. I especially enjoyed the opera exercises that really stretched my capabilities. Watch out karaoke. "I have two little girls, and Andree-Ann has been teaching them both. What I really like is that she doesn't teach them exactly the same thing and tailors their lessons according to their abilities, and their interests. For example, one is super into Taylor Swift and the other one wants to play classical music, so they're both learning things they enjoy. We used to have a different teacher who was only teaching certain pieces and it seemed that all of her students were playing the same thing. At least now the girls aren't complaining about practicing because they're excited to play their music!"

"I had a musical background growing up. I played the piano and the cello for years and sang in several choirs. I also took piano lessons for a number of years as a young adult - but, when I came to Barbara, I hadn't touched a musical instrument for at least 3 decades. For me, what makes Barbara extraordinary as a teacher is that, even with all the musical background I have, she brings out music in me that I never knew was there - and we laugh a lot too - you can't do better than that!"
