Bass guitar students start with five subjects.
1) Technique is concerned with the development of the physical mechanics involved in playing the instrument.
2) Scales are part of the basic vocabulary and building blocks of the musical language.
3) Intervals are also basic vocabulary of the musical language and progress into chords, and yes, bass players think and play chords.
4) Note reading is not required for every student. It really depends on the student's goals. However, I strongly encourage learning to read musical notation, (more than tablature). Literacy in reading music is analogous to literacy in reading in our English language. Can you imagine how much smaller our world would be if we couldn't read?
5) Songs utilize the skills and concepts of all the previously mentioned subjects and are the goal of studying music. And by the way, they are really fun to play, especially when interacting with other musicians or performing for an audience.

I've been teaching broadway singing for 12 years and my students have gone on to receive scholarship money from colleges and entrances to performance high schools. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to grasp foundational singing and breathing technique and as time goes on you'll be able to start adding to your repertoire. I specialize in audition preparation/creating shows/building repertoire, typically use opera books, and have the following tools available for your lessons: composition book and a pen/pencil. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

Do you dream of singing in Italian, but fear that it might be too complicated or only reserved for the advanced singer? Well, consider that myth debunked! Over the past few years, a cappella has become a popular genre and trend. But what exactly is it? History tells us that a cappella music got its beginning in a religious setting, but the genre continues to grow and change as shows like Glee and movies like Pitch Perfect move the style into popular c …
