Techniques such as breathing, diction, pitch, tone, posture, rhythm, smoothness, and stage presence will be practiced. I do my best to develop lessons that are tailored to each student based on their individual needs. Lessons start simply with gentle vocal exercises based on humming and open vowel sounds. Each student can expect to be challenged through exciting stimulating exercises. I also teach techniques to improve posture, poise, and vocal performance. I enjoy using simple scales to improve pitch and volume while also working on clarifying the students voice.

A students performance, whether they aspire to be a performer, teacher, or just enjoy performing should have a positive self-portrait of themselves. We will work on building confidence so we as performers can take pride in ourselves and what we represent. My students are expected to practice outside of the lesson. I also encourage them to keep a practice journal of when and how long they have practiced. It helps the ...

I was very lucky to have found Kelly. I had always dreamed of having artistic talent but I am not a naturally good singer. Within two years, I have gone from singing in the shower to having developed to stage performance. Kelly has taught me so much from the artistic expression of singing to the mechanics of turning my voice into an instrument. She has an incredible ability to listen to my voice and pinpoint the exact adjustment I need to make it sound great. She's such a fun person to be around that I always look forward to my next lesson. Her positive attitude and approach is also a testament to her high level of professionalism. She provides feedback that is positive. but also helps me improve She is the perfect combination of teacher and coach and I would highly recommend her for anyone interested in singing.

Musical theatre is my passion! You should expect to learn all vocal techniques just the same as any student but we fine tune your technique balance to suit the desired musical theatre sound. For any genre, but especially musical theatre, we cannot just stop at the sound, the full performance has to be explored so we go over musical tools to enhance performance vocally as well as acting though the song, staging, guestures, and facials.

I like to teach each lesson, for both voice and piano, by spending equal time on ear-training/sight-reading (sight-singing), technique, and repertoire.

For singers used to singing along with their favorite recordings, matching sounds coming from the piano can be quite a challenge. Luckily, we live in an age of smartphones and tablets. I say this because if you go to iTunes or the Google Play store and search “intonation,” there are many apps that will help you learn to sing in tune (on the correct pitch). I’m new to using these apps, but I plan to use these in lessons regularly. Aside from counting steady rhythms, the ability to sing in tune is one of the most important skills for any aspiring singer. And while I’m thinking about it, download a metronome too. (I’ll explain how to use this after you book a lesson..he he :)

Also, training singers can be difficult because they can't see their instrument, and often singers don’t practice because they can’t see their ...

My son Rohan has been learning Piano lessons from Mr. Stephen Mccool for about 4 years. Stephen has vast musical experience and is an excellent teacher. He's been really helping my son shape his music and his musicality with technique work and working on pieces that he really enjoy. He goes above and beyond on his musicality. He helps and support my son when he makes a bad move and he helps my son figure out what the pieces mean to him and what they could mean to my son in a way that focuses on the music. Even through the pandemic and completing lessons virtually, he delivered excellently without any delays. My son always looks forward to this piano classes. Stephen is fair but firm with students and I highly recommend him for any student who wants to learn piano. Thank you Stephen for your continuing efforts to present music as a logical, creative, fun, understandable art!
Keaton
I really enjoyed my lessons with Stephen. I'm an adult with some musical experience from college and high school, but not much. He brought a level of energy to our lessons that made them engaging and motivating. He came prepared with lesson goals, but also was flexible enough to work on specific things and songs that I wanted to study. Working with Stephen has given me tools to effectively use my voice and to feel more confident in reading music. After our 10 lessons I have significant improvement in both range and ability. I started without being able to sight-read very well, and now I feel much more confident.

"I have been taking lessons with Cara for two years now, and she is fantastic. Not only is her knowledge and technique very high-quality, but her manner is very low-pressure and comfortable. She's friendly and encouraging, yet still honest and constructive in her teaching. She specializes her lessons for your individual voice and selects songs and exercises best suited for you, with the proper techniques to healthily use your chords and not damage them. If you want to learn a specific song or style, she will not only teach it to you, but she'll teach you other songs and styles that will better help you sing and understand it.
