We begin with exercises to develop technique and train for agility, musicality and music theory. Classical music is used but not exclusively as we explore the many different genres of music! Ear training is also offered so that the student may be able to play by ear as well as reading music.

About Tim

My wife and I have been teaching piano lessons in the Kansas City area for more than 20 years. We have studios in our home; she teaches upstairs and I teach downstairs! I am currently accepting new students and welcome the opportunity to see them grow and experience the joy of piano playing. W

Hey there – I am so glad that you want to study piano! A little bit about me: I am a graduate of the world-renowned jazz program at the Jacobs School of Music and have been teaching for 8 years. I have experience with many styles and genres and have been fortunate to play with artists from over 20 countries. My work has been featured in NPR’s Jazz Critic’s Poll, Jazziz Magazine, and All About Jazz, and I was recently chosen to be a cultural ambassador for the U.S. State Department’s global music fellowship (OneBeat). A little bit about my piano methods: For beginner piano students, I start with exploring the "anatomy" of the keyboard so we can delve right away into learning simple arrangements of your favorite songs. Pick any song you like, and I'll work with you to learn it by ear! Over time, I will teach you more technical exercises, scales, and ways to start reading music. I can also be an ally for intermediate students who wish to delve into learning harder pieces by ear or by ...

About Hannah

I hold a degree in Jazz Studies from the Jacobs School of Music, where I focused especially on Afro-Cuban music, thanks to the tutelage of Latin Jazz giants Michael Spiro and Wayne Wallace! My jazz background also gave me rigorous training in music theory and history. My performance career is high

At first I was skeptical about taking online lessons, but I love taking lessons with Hannah. I'm a classical bassist starting to learn jazz, and Hannah is providing exactly what I was hoping for in starting my jazz career. The first lesson we went over what my goals are, and she is providing me with exactly the tools that I need to progress. Every week she sends me a personalized document of what we went over in lessons, what I should focus on in the coming week, and music resources (exercises, jazz charts, etc) to utilize! She is patient, kind, knowledgeable in both technique and theory, and pushes me every lesson.

I cannot believe how much I've learned in just 3 lessons with Hannah! She is an excellent teacher, patient, encouraging, and clear. She quickly assessed what I was looking for in upright bass lessons and the lessons are exactly what I was hoping for, and more. I'm so glad to have found Hannah.

Rachel is a great teacher who really knows her stuff and wants to help her student. Her lessons are always thought out and her critique is always on point. She allows for enough creative freedom to be able to give you notes afterwards that enable you to build on them because she wants you to achieve your potential. She really cares and will help you wherever she can whether its for an upcoming audition or polishing your resume. I highly recommend her teaching.
Janice
Rachel is an amazing teacher! She helped me with a self tape and was so amazing! She not only coached me on the acting of the scene, but also in how to make sure the technical side of the self tape was as effective as possible. I highly recommend her!
Ken
Rachel has an incredible understanding of the foundations of piano, and is really patient and kind. I went into this with very little piano experience (think Chopsticks!), and she helped me find a really sustainable path to learn and grow. Her lessons and exercises have been so helpful! I’ve always wanted to learn how to play piano, and now I am!

Highly recommended! Thank you, Rachel!!

"Howard has helped me reach skill levels on the piano I never thought possible. Although I've played pro and semi-pro trumpet for many years, I decided to ramp up my piano skills for music library and film/TV composing. Howard's lessons are like leverage. No, make that industrial strength hydraulics! His teachings (customized drills and studies, sight reading, repertoire, etc.) allow you to exponentially improve not only your piano skills, but also every aspect of your musicianship. (performance, composing, theory, improvisation, you name it!) No matter your skill level when you begin with Howard, you WILL get better than you ever dreamed by following Howard's ingenious teaching methods."

How Often Should You Tune a Piano?

Wondering about the average piano tuning cost, or how often you should tune a piano? You've come to the right place! Just as you go to the doctor for check-ups from time to time, your piano needs maintenance and care throughout its life. You may notice, especially if you have a keen ear, that your piano drops in pitch particularly during the summer and winter months. This is because your piano is mostly made of wood, and your wooden soundboard will contract when the weather is drier -- or the …
