I have taught music for 10 years and believe students should get to play what they want to play! Students are asked to come up with a list of songs and/or artists they would love to play. Through teaching chords, note reading and theory, the song possibilities are endless! I also can help the aspiring singer/mandolin player to be able to both play and sing simultaneously.

Best instructor ever. Very patient. Knows how to handle an old guy like me. My playing doesn't really deserve someone as good, but I'm thankful to have her.

We love Rachel!!! She is patient and kind. She carefully explains what my daughter can do to improve her technique and tone. She is intentional in her instruction, making sure the basics are solid. She is an excellent bass instructor. Thanks Rachel!

My daughter was excited about the bass again after her lesson with Rachel. She is ready to step up her game and Rachel guided her patiently with thoughtful (not judgmental) encouragement. Looking forward to the next lesson 😊

I'm an intermediate player who needed refinement and refresher of my core techniques. I went to Elizabeth because she has a background in both fiddle & classical. After watching me play, she affirmed that which I was doing correctly and then helped me to improve where I was lacking. I would recommend Elizabeth.

If you are looking for a fiddle teacher who makes learning fun and who also teaches proper fundamentals (such as posture, finger position, bow control, tone, etc.), then I believe I would be a great fit for you. I have noticed that many young fiddle players learn songs quickly, but then come to a halt in their learning because they do not know the proper fundamentals to keep them going. Since I teach from a classical standpoint (I mostly teach classical violin students), I make sure my fiddle students are not just learning fun songs quickly, but are learning them with solid fundamentals. I use the American Fiddle Method, which provides a large number of fun and exciting fiddle tunes.

Laura has been a great teacher for my 6 year-old daughter (starting taking lessons when she was 5). She is endlessly patient and has a perfect balance of fun and instruction in all her lessons. She helped us every step of the way--picking out the right rental instrument, finding extra workbooks that would be fun, coming up with ways to make practicing at home enticing. Laura is made to be a fiddle teacher--she has a obvious passion both for the music and sharing it with her students. My daughter left every lesson with Laura beaming with pride. I'd recommend anyone searching for a teacher to go with Laura!

"Alani is very personable and easy to communicate with. She quickly assessed my strengths and weaknesses and gave me immediate feedback to improve on my concerns. Very positive and encouraging. She is also able and willing to work on what I’m interested in but also points out things she thinks I need to improve on. On my first lesson she started me on some embellishments for a tune I had started teaching myself (Whiskey Before Breakfast) a made a recording for me. 🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻"

"We signed up our 10-year-old son for online lessons with Daniel when in-person lessons became challenging during the pandemic. We were not sure how effective the lessons would be, but we were excited about finding a teacher with musical interests that aligned with our son's (rock and up-tempo bluegrass).

Five lessons in, we are thrilled about the choice we made. Daniel has a great rapport with our son and has worked to really "get" him. Daniel has the kind of focus on bowing techniques that we were never able to get from a local violin teacher. He is also in touch between lessons, sending materials to help our fiddler develop specific skills. And he models the kind of enthusiasm for music that we want for our son.

We'll know more at the one-year mark than at the five-lesson mark, but right now we are really pleased with Daniel and recommend him very highly."

What's the Difference Between the Violin and Fiddle?

Is that a fiddle... or a violin? It's a common question, and one that baffles many beginner musicians. So what's the answer? When it comes to the actual instrument, there actually aren't any differences. What distinguishes a violin from a fiddle is what kind of music you're playing with it. A musician playing folk, bluegrass or country, for example, would most likely refer to their instrument as a fiddle; those who play other genres (jazz, classical, etc.) typically call theirs a violin. …
