Kat is a very knowledgable teacher of ASL. I'm very impressed with her attention and respect for deaf culture. She's had high-level experience interpreting for the governor of CT. So cool with all those cameras! I highly recommend her for students of ASL in all levels, especially beginners.

Ava Haynes is a phenomenal force. The Young Beauty Academy had ASL teacher Ava Haynes and the girls were signing in sentences within 1 hour. I never have seen a person so gentle and thorough with children. The children had the best experience because of Ava Haynes expertise. We will definitely have her for the next group of Young Beauties.

Embraced by the Deaf community in the state of Massachusetts over 10 years ago, I was submerged in the language and the culture during and after losing what was left of my hearing. I’ve never felt so much love and support in my life. It was quite touching. During the whole “losing my hearing” process, I quickly picked up American Sign Language and began teaching at TLC Deaf.

My family relocated to a different state and I began teaching homeschooled students ASL online via other video chat apps like FT, Skype, etc.

I had no idea that this (TakeLessons) existed and I’m not even sure how I stumbled across this app. I’ve been seeing various vocabulary signed differently compared to what I learned so I’ve been joining classes as well. Furthermore, I believe that there will always be something for you to learn no matter how skilled you are.

I noticed that there were no morning classes during the week and figured that I could share what I know with those who prefer morning classes.

About Brandy Q

I’m fun, innovative, interactive and insightful. I believe that I am skilled at meeting people where they are, understanding how they learn, and adjusting my style of teaching to match their needs. My classes are voice off, but I have many visual cues along with text that will help students understand and flow.

First lessons can be hard because you don't know what knowledge your new student is bringing. Brandy understood when we could speed up and when we needed to slow down. She is very friendly and relaxed. As a beginner, I highly recommend her!

Mrs. Williams is an awesome teacher. She is very patient and kind. I am not def and not very coordinated but I am actually learning and using what I learn, correctly, with my best friend who I recently reconnected with. Thanks Mrs. Williams for making this so much easier than I expected and working with me through my challenges!

I’ve been signing since I was a baby. I am deaf in one ear and grew up in a semi-deaf home. I’ll make every lesson fun and exciting, add things about the deaf culture for you to know and create fun ways for you to remember the signs forever. Do you want to know just basic signs? Or want to be able to use this for your job? Then you’ve definitely come to the right place! I’ll take you from beginner to however far you want to go in your journey with sign language!

About Kelly

I always say that American Sign Language was my first language because it sorta was. My grandmother who helped my single mom raise me, thought it was important for me to know sign language so I started signing before I could talk. I am deaf in one ear and the doctors always worried I might loose my hearing in my other ear. My current household now signs on a daily basis and I’m even teaching our one year old as well.

My lessons will always be fun and my students will walk away from each lesson knowing they have improved and will always have something to take away from each lesson. I realize everyone learns differently and am willing to work with my students on what is the best way to learn for them personally.

I have signed with my jobs in retail and the food industry, as well as helped out at local schools and hospitals on an as need

ed basis. I have also helped teach extended family basics so that they have an understand of this beautiful language!

I have a passion for the deaf culture, having been a part of it and growing up in it. It’s my hope that my students will have the same passion as well and a better understanding and be able to use ASL in their future endeavors whatever that may be.

I've been signing for almost 19 years. I have a Deaf son who is now an adult. Initially, I taught him and myself sign using library books. A few years ago, I went to college to study ASL, as well as Deaf culture. I actually know 2 different forms of sign language. Signing with me is FUN because it is my passion and is close to my heart as it's how I communicate with my son, his wife, and quite a few friends. Opening one's mind to ASL is akin to learning to SEE SOUND!

About Rachel

I've always liked sign language, after learning the alphabet as a child. I never really had a reason to learn it until I found out that my son was deaf. Initially I was concerned for him & any struggles he may go through because of it. That honestly dissipated quickly for me. I could now communicate with my kid! WooHoo! His very first signs were "cookie" & "crackers" because I had to bribe him to sign with me. His Deafness & our learning sign became our adventure! From brightly colored, tie-dyed hearing aid molds, to me teaching the neighborhood kids how to sign so that they could easily play together. Then discrimination from his school district set in. Momma bear came out.

I found an attorney willing to take the case pro bono, I got my son a Deaf advocate through a local community service, and called our local newspaper & shared the

story with them. Through that newspaper article, more parents came forward & reached out to me for help. That was the moment I realized my purpose in life; be it teaching sign, advocacy, sharing the rich culture that comes with it all.....This was & is my purpose. On an ironic little side note, I actually used to be semi-professional singer/ songwriter. Now, from time to time, I do enjoy Interpreting songs into ASL. I'm passionate, fun, funny but I can be pretty bad with the corny jokes. If you & I ever work together with sign Language, just be prepared for a wonderful adventure, but still within the safe confines of modern society.

With 16 years as an ASL educational interpreter, my focus is on preparing you to interact in sign language in "real life", not just the classroom. Beginning students will dive right in with the most useful vocabulary for engaging in conversation, with an emphasis on the cool grammatical features that make ASL unique. Intermediate and advanced students will have lessons tailored to their experience to fill in gaps in their knowledge, focusing on the individual's strengths and weaknesses. I'm dedicated to leading students to a proficient grasp of ASL -- and making it fun. Wherever you are in your ASL journey, I look forward to working with you!

Since graduating with my BA in ASL/English Interpretation in 2003, I've never stopped trying to learn and improve myself. That's the attitude I bring to my lessons as well. I find teaching very rewarding, and I encourage questions and curiosity. Contact me and we can get the ball rolling!

"I have taken a few TakeLessonsLive classes (covering vocabulary relating to holidays, months, animals, and weather) with Victoria and have enjoyed them im

In particular, I found it very helpful how she encourages the students to put the vocabulary/topics covered in the lessons into practice at the end of the classes. Having the students communicate with one another, using the vocabulary/topics that have been introduced, is an excellent way to reinforce what has been covered during the lessons."
