I have been working as a freelance musician and private instructor in Chicago for fifteen years. During this time I have been hired to perform Jazz, Rock, R/B, and world music. As an instructor I have maintained a studio of five to twenty students on a weekly basis. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Percussion Performance, and a Master of Music degree from De Paul University in Jazz Studies.
*** Lesson Details *** With committed weekly practice there are no limits to a student's potential. I like to use the term guide to describe my teaching style. In a relaxed atmosphere, the student and I are working together to advance their musical goals. Sometimes goals are reached quickly, more often we need more time and repetition to advance. The mind learns quicker than the body, so focused
practice will help train the body and bring it to the mind's level.
*** Studio Equipment *** Finished Basement studio: drum set, snare drum, small mallet, xylophone and electric piano, room for parents to sit in on lesson
*** Travel Equipment *** Student should provide sticks and mallets and purchase a book that we will work out of weekly.
*** Specialties *** I feel comfortable teaching all levels of percussion. I have experience teaching a variety of styles Jazz, rock, classical, and world.

Jeff provided a great overview for my daughter. Wonderful first lesson.

Jeff has been great with my 7 year old son learning Djembe and Bongos. Jeff gives clear concise instructions and practices the skills with him to work on during the week. My son is easily distracted and Jeff is very flexible and listens to what he has to say, using is as a way to teach and redirects. My son can't wait to go to class every week!
Hello, and thank you for checking out my profile! My name is Shannon and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching music since 2007 and have loved helping my students achieve their greatest potential. I went to New York University and earned a degree in vocal performance in 2011. I love working with children and adults of all ages. I offer lessons in voice, piano, and ukulele. Whether you are looking to start a new instrument for fun or you'd like to play a little more seriously, I can help you! I look forward to helping you reach your goals!
Are you ready to fall in love with your voice? Are you ready for something different? If your voice isn’t becoming to you, YOU should be coming to ME!
I know what it's like to be frustrated with boring exercises and processes that seem to take a lot of time but yield no results. That's why I decided to teach DIFFERENTLY!
I've invested a lot of time, energy, emotion and $$$ on big-name schools and "experts", only to be disappointed with what I was taught because a lot of the information or techniques they employed simply didn't apply to me or my goals.
Since 1997, I have perfected the K.I.S.S. methodology to improve sales, stage performance, professional advancement and overall quality of life. My effectiveness and willingness to guarantee my work sets me worlds apart from every other professional in my field. Furthermore,
I have been named "Top Producer" in EVERY sales and management position held and have won first place in every singing and speech competition EVER entered since 1991. However, with my accolades, I am humble, easy-going and take a light-hearted and humorous approach to my coaching sessions. At an early age, I was taught the importance of working "smart" and not "hard." Efficiency and effectiveness were the order of every day. As the daughter of a Master Herbalist/musician (mother) and bodybuilder/ musician/ policeman (father), wellness, discipline and the stage have always been the way of life. As a child, I was fascinated by my mother's stories of performing with members of Earth, Wind and Fire and other famous musicians and marveled at my father's accounts of being a friend and colleague of Sergio "The Myth" Oliva (3x Mr. Olympia). These experiences piqued a strong interest in stage performance and resulted in years of training in fine arts, fitness and linguistics. I was constantly reminded that the best performers in any field are "complete packages", meaning that they are well-rounded and adept in multiple facets of their chosen field. To become a complete package, I studied classical piano and vocal performance at Sherwood Conservatory of Music and VanderCook College of Music; martial arts (Hapkido) at Hyun's; Fashion Design and Merchandise Management at International Academy of Design & Technology; herbal medicine at The School of Natural Healing; acting and musical improvisation at ETA Theatre and The Second City; flag, rifle and sabre twirling with South Shore Drill Team and runway/print modeling at Barbizon and The Fashion Connection. I have also studied tap, liturgical, ballet, modern, salsa, ballroom and street dance; speech therapy; actively study psychology, anatomy and nutrition and am a NESTA-certified wellness coach.

*** Lesson Details *** Each lesson is tailor-made to suit the student's individual needs. Custom action plan will be given to each student on a case-by-case basis. No instruments are used in my lessons, as I train the voice to be a standalone instrument. However, if you would like to accompany yourself with a guitar, piano or percussion instrument, you are very welcome to do so.

I am a 50-something-year-old business executive who began taking beginner piano lessons with Susan Merdinger almost 5 years ago.
Now, I am performing Chopin Nocturnes and Preludes and cherished works by Mozart and Beethoven to name just a few.
My Mom let me quit piano lessons in 1967 when I was growing up on the Southside of Chicago. I spent the next 45 years regretting it.
Now, as my piano teacher, Susan is inspiring me to make up for lost time.
At the end of each year, I am amazed at being able to play pieces I couldn’t have imagined performing 12 months earlier. This satisfying achievement comes only because of Susan’s character and competence as a teacher and her passion and enthusiasm to motivate me to practice 1 to 2 hours every day.
Susan is patient while maintaining very high standards with a commitment to excellence. She celebrates the progress of all her students to whom she is dedicated. While waiting for my lesson to begin, I have watched in amazement as she interacts with a full studio of very diverse students, young and old, boys and girls, beginners and advanced, even handicapped blind and autistic students. I’ve watched as she’s brought smiles to all her students after their recitals and audiences after her own concerts.
And Susan is one of the smartest persons I know who is expanding my horizons of the classical repertoire I play and appreciation of the classical music I listen to. There is a special pride to see your piano teacher perform solo or with members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at historic venues in Chicago or New York City.
I am a busy executive, but my piano lesson is the highlight of the week, even if that entails a 90-minute battle in Chicagoland rush hour traffic to get to my lesson.
That’s because my life is richer with the music Susan imparts.
I can’t recommend her strongly enough.

The first lesson with Susan was fantastic. My daughter is looking forward to working with her.
My name is Annarita and I am a violinist from Des Plaines, Illinois. I began playing at the age of seven, and by the time I was in high school I realized I wanted to make playing and teaching violin my career.
In 2013, I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in music from Loyola University Chicago. During my college career I had the opportunity to spend a semester in Vienna, Austria to expand my knowledge of the classical music world.
In 2010, I began playing with the Fox Valley Orchestra - an ensemble of which I am still a part and consider my second home. I also perform regularly with the Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra, Stargate Productions, as well as the string orchestra at Northeastern Illinois University. In 2015 I had the opportunity to perform with Rod Stewart...one of my favorite memories!
Besides my passion for perf
orming, I also very much love teaching. I worked with The People's Music School and with the Chicago Metamorphosis Orchestra Project in Chicago as a violin teacher and ensemble coach. I also teach a wide range of private students.
*** Lesson Details *** 1. I set goals with my students and give them the tools they need in order to reach them. -I focus a lot on note reading, music theory, practice techniques, and bodily awareness to ensure each student understands every aspect of their instrument and music 2. I explain how the assigned studies will help improve students' overall ability to play the violin -I'm not a "spoon-feeder" - I teach my students how to teach themselves and think independently! 3. I keep my lessons at an appropriate difficulty for each student. 4. Most importantly, I teach students how to practice efficiently and with patience. Improvement does not happen overnight; but with a little focus and patience, it will come a lot sooner than you think!
*** Travel Equipment *** Students must have an instrument, music stand, assigned music, and a metronome if necessary.
She has been teaching my daughter for 3 years, starting around age 5 1/2-6. She is patient and firm, encourages her to work hard, and loves and praises her when she succeeds. She takes her craft seriously, and it shows. She is phenomenal!

Annarita is a great teacher!

My daughter really enjoys learning with her.She improved a lot .
I am a highly trained classical flutist that maintains an active teaching and performing career. I have received Masters and Bachelors degrees in flute performance from DePaul University, and additional training from the North Carolina School of the Arts. While my degrees are in performance, they include extensive coursework in pedagogy and studio teaching, and I love teaching. I have years of experience working as an educator with flutists of all ages and levels with various goals for their instrumental studies. I believe in igniting a passion for music and nurturing this passion into personal excellence based upon each individual's interests and goals. I am more than happy to provide a full resume and references upon request.
I'm writing this only after the first lesson. Before my son was so frustrated with the flute he even hated the idea of taking lessons. I told him we'll try it and see how he feels after the class. Michael is patient, encouraging and knowledgable. He corrected my son's playing and tuned his flute. Most of all he gave my son confidence. My son told me I hit the bulls eye with my selection of his teacher. He said he can't wait to go next week! When watching I thought they were going quickly but my son seemed to catch on just as quick. I think Michael is aware of his pace and adjust to his students level. His location is isolated and idea for one on one teaching. There was plenty of parking and his location is easy to find.

TL;DR: Sign up now. Do it! Mr. Hoover is talented, professional, attentive, punctual, organized and effective.
I've taken music lessons my entire life, and I've had bad, mediocre, good and excellent teachers before. Mr. Hoover is excellent. It _never_ once felt like he was phoning it in or killing time-- lessons were well-structured and tailored to help me achieve my personal goals as a musician.
I'm moving away from Chicago for a new job opportunity and am sad to discontinue lessons with him, as I learned a lot in a very short amount of time. I encourage any folks at any age wishing to learn the flute to sign up.

Michael was an excellent flute teacher for my 5th-grade daughter!
He's very patient and calm, which is critical for new learners, and gave my daughter a lot of confidence in her ability to play the flute.
Hi, my name is Ryan and I would love to teach you how to play guitar. I've been playing for over 10 years and have been gigging for a little less than that in my band. Over the years I have gained a lot of experience performing on stage and teaching to people of all ages. If you want to shred, jam, or rock out then look no further. I okay all styles of music and pride myself in building a fun and educational curriculum based solely on you or others who have had similar interests as you. This means if you have a question about guitar or music in general, 9 times out of 10 I can answer it. The remaining tenth is either a well kept secret, or something that is left to be found. So if you're ready to start your journey or just need a guide to help you on your way, let's go!
Ryan was great! He's obviously a talented guitarist and he is very laid back and makes you feel comfortable. He shows you in detail what you need to do to become a better guitar player. My ONLY advice, and the reason he doesn't get 5 stars, is I think he should have more visual aids with his lessons. For example, write down the different scales or transcribe the first several measures of a song. Then, one has something to refer back to when you are practicing and invariably get stuck. Other than that, I would highly recommend Ryan as a guitar teacher!
January 19, 2017
Ryan is prompt and very respectful and patient.

We are so happy to have Ryan as our guitar instructor. Ryan is very knowledgeable and kind. Our son really enjoys having Ryan as a teacher.
I teach students of all ages and stages. Having studied piano for 16 years and voice for 4 years, my students can expect to learn theory and technique along with repertoire. I encourage my students to practice for at least ten minutes every day! All members of my studio have the opportunity to perform for and collaborate with one another in three recitals each year.
In addition to teaching a studio of 20 musicians (ages 4–65), I am a professional choral director. I graduated from Michigan State University (2018) with a Masters in Choral Conducting and from Oberlin College (2012) with a Bachelors in Music, Concentration in Choral Conducting.
We recently started piano lessons with Ms Lydia and we can’t say enough good things. Our daughter Emerson asks each day if Ms Lydia is coming to play piano. And we believe that is because of Ms Lydia's positive attitude, happy personality and ability to make learning music so much fun! Ms Lydia has already taught my daughter so much in regards to music and reading notes. Emerson enjoys each lesson so much that she practices the piano on her own. We are so grateful for Ms Lydia. She’s engaging, caring and her passion for music is contagious!
October 16, 2018
Lydia is a great teacher! She selects great music for my level and offers me suggestions to improve my ability. I enjoy practicing everyday and she never gets frustrated when I make mistakes but shows me correct fingering.
I began playing at 13 years old, and have taken lessons from many other teachers and now I'm 69 and have MS, she does a great job with me!
"I really enjoyed my lessons with Rachel. She is a great teacher and shares her love of music. In addition to learning new songs, I also learned new tec
hniques to strengthen my voice. I travel a bit for work, and Rachel was very flexible with scheduling make-up classes. Unfortunately, I no longer take lessons because the new location of her studio is no longer convenient for me. It's too bad, because the space sounds wonderful! I highly recommend her as an instructor."
"Wilma is a wonderful instructor. She is extremely patient and will go over the materials until the student understand and can play the lesson as required.
I was able to sit and observe her in the lesson and was able to assist my son when he was practicing. She is always prompt and ready to go when we arrived. We never had to wait she was always prepared. My child is 6 and Wilma was able to get him focused on what he needed to do in class and he was able to replicate the lesson at home."
"Helen B taught me for the past year and a half. She was not only a very good teacher but also very patient. She used different methods if I did not unders
tand the first way. I learned various tricks that would make sure I enunciated properly and could sing louder without using too much breath. She always encouraged me if I felt like I did not do as well as I wanted to do, and gave me various exercises to do and videos to see when I get home to practice. By using these techniques, I was always sure that I had learned something every lesson. Overall, I highly recommend anyone who wants to learn how to sing that Helen B is the one who you are looking for."
"I took piano lessons from Howard for a few years. I grew up taking piano lessons and Howard has been the best piano teacher I have ever had. He loves pl
aying the piano and teaching and has incredible and insightful techniques which really work and take you to the "next level" of understanding and playing the piano. I liked the variety of aspects we worked on -basic theory, scales, exercises, etc. which were very balanced as well as pieces-at a variety of levels. We also worked on inspiration/improvisation as well as songwriting. He can do everything! What I also like about Howard is that you can tell him what you want to work on and he accommodates that and then just guides you in that direction and gives you techniques to build and enhance in those areas. He explains things very well and is very kind and patient. Howard is a rare teacher and I highly recommend him! (The only reason I am not taking lessons now is because of work/moved). Try the lessons for yourself!"
"Dilys is very skilled in the art of teaching. She is very fluid. In only one lesson my son was playing a song. I feel we have found our life-long piano in
"Great voice coach! She is extremely experienced and knowledgable and fun to work with. She really cares and will work hard for your improvement. I high
ly recommend her!"
"After many years of contemplating learning an instrument and making excuses like a busy schedule, I finally made the commitment. I started the first few
weeks with online videos and made a little progress. I found Jordan through this sight. I was hoping to find someone who would help guide me on a steady path to improvement and growth. Jordan has been a perfect fit for me. He's patient (I'm not). He is encouraging (I'm pretty hard on myself). I am slowly getting better and wanting to stick with it. I think it's because he's clear and methodical in his teaching and he keeps you enthused with music that you like. While I have a long way to go, I practice every day and look forward to my weekly lessons with Jordan. I'm learning the guitar for my self and over the past three month Jordan has helped me stay engaged and excited about playing the guitar. I highly recommend Jordan and will continue to learn from him."
"Excellent work! Extremely patient and encouraging teacher!"
"Dave is very patient & very encouraging which is exactly the type of teacher I needed since I've never played guitar or any other musical instrument. His
