Want to learn to play the alto saxophone? Let me help you!

About Kimberly
Kimberly was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. After starting the flute and piano at the age of 8, she knew she had found something she loved and wanted in her life forever. At age 12, she added the saxophone and clarinet to her repertoire of instruments. After completing her Bachelors degree in Flute Performance at the University of Arizona she moved to Los Angeles to work on her Masters degree at California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). There was where she fell in love with contemporary music and has devoted her life to sharing her love for it with others. After completing her Masters degree in Flute Performance at CalArts, she went on to pursue a Doctorate in Contemporary Flute Performance at the University of California, San Diego. Kimberly now resides in Los Angeles and plays with many groups throughout the city.

Seth is a good dude. I came across his profile with Take Lessons a month ago, after browsing through other instructors in my area and other schools in my area. He's got the experience and knowledge, so I connected with him for an initial lesson. It was a quick one to get introductions out of the way and a good idea of goals/direction. From there we further honed our plans for my instruction in an hour lesson and are directing our sights on my upcoming auditions. Seth has shown me through simple explanations of theory that his teaching style is very approachable, and additionally, was able to show me good technical skills on working my way around the horn, which is especially useful for someone like me in my twenties who already has a few bad habits (haha). Like I said, he's a good dude, good sense of humor so I feel at ease practicing with him and his knowledge is insane! Not only for saxophone but in so many other areas of music! You'd be doing yourself a favor to take at least an hour lesson from him and see how you go.

Each lesson includes studies of fundamental techniques, ear training, and music history in order to facilitate the development of a whole musician.

About Stephanie
Hello, and thank you for your interest!

My name is Stephanie, I am a teaching-artist from El Paso, Texas. I currently reside, perform and teach in the Boston and greater Boston area.

I am a recent graduate of The New England Conservatory of Music with my Masters in Saxophone Performance. I received my Bacherlors in Music Education from New Mexico State University.

“A teaching artist, by definition, is a two-career professional: a working artist and a working educator. As a working artist is they are involved in an ongoing process of discovery, problem solving, discipline and refinement of skills in their discipline. As a working educator, it is essential that the artist is also developing a knowledge base and skills to be an effective partner in education. Achieving a meaningful balance between these two professions, whereby one
feeds the other, is an ongoing process that requires a deepening awareness for the teaching artist of what their teaching brings to their art and what their art teaches them about learning.”

I am devoted and dedicated to helping find each of my students strengths, weaknesses and style of learning. Once I have identified these traits, I am able to develop lessons and repertoire that helps each students become the most efficient learner and best musician they can be.

I pride myself in creating a fun and safe learning environment in which I establish a firm musical foundation for my students. Lessons include: scales, etudes, articulation, dynamic and sight reading exercises, standard saxophone repertoire, recording and analyzing performances, saxophone/music history lessons, and exploration of the sounds, genres and artists of the saxophone.

Simultaneously, my students cultivate many other skills while learning how to play saxophone. Students enhance their fine motor skills and ability to memorize, students increase their overall self-confidence and become self-sufficient and creative problem solvers. I am passionate about educating and empowering my students and I enjoy connecting with a wide array of musicians of all ages, playing levels and backgrounds.

Feel free to contact me to inquire about lessons, I hope to hear from you soon!

Stephanie is a patient, knowledgeable, enthusiastic educator and collaborator who loves to perform and teach. I had the honor of working with her for nearly four years while we pursued similar degrees at New Mexico State University. She consistently brought a level of maturity and preparedness beyond her age to our rehearsals and practices. If I was limited to only one word to describe her, it would be "professional".

I've been studying saxophone with Jeff for a little over a year and a half now. In that time I've grown greatly as a saxophone player, musician, and improviser. Jeff does a great job of breaking things down to an understandable level while still keeping sight of the big picture - saying something important during a solo, and saying it in a way that keeps the audience interested. Lesson materials are always challenging enough to stay busy while never being too overwhelming. Jeff is a talented musician and teacher who knows what makes jazz, jazz. Anyone who is willing to put the work in and dedicate themselves will experience a lot of growth and learning with him.

Saxophone instructor focusing on teaching beginning and intermediate students of all ages to express themselves on the instrument by emphasizing the fundamentals of playing the instrument while having fun during the process. Areas that I emphasize include: breathing, posture, embouchure, tone production, music theory, phrasing, and intonation. The student will be able to play any type of music they wish as a result of developing these skills.

About Ini
I perform regularly in the St. Louis area and throughout the United States. I have been playing the saxophone for 15 years. I am a member of the St. Louis Big Band and I am also a member of local jazz fusion group, Spaceship. I primarily play the tenor saxophone, but I am comfortable teaching soprano, alto, and tenor saxophonists of all ages and skill levels.

My lessons are suited for beginner through intermediate students. I meet each student where they are musically and apply the appropriate instruction for their current level. I think that learning an instrument should be enjoyable. Regardless of skill level, my teaching style focuses on making sure each student has a firm grasp on the fundamentals required to play the saxophone. My lessons will cover tone production, posture, intonation, music theory, and any other topics the stu
dents feel they need help in.

Although I mainly perform jazz oriented music, the concepts I teach will apply to any style of music the student wishes to play. For those interested in improvisation, I am more than happy to teach improvisational topics as well. These topics include: ear training, scales, learning tunes, rhythm studies, listening skills, and more. I look forward to helping you become a better saxophonist and musician!
