I am a professional singer, songwriter and actor working in the Chicago area for many years. I have a B.F.A. in Theater/Voice from The University of Kansas and an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from Columbia College Chicago. I've been teaching private vocal instruction since 2003: I host the Singer's Salon in Chicago, a unique and supportive venue for singer's to become more comfortable performing before an audience. I also instruct workshops for vocal technique and performance. For 10 years I was the lead singer for The Red Apples, an acoustic/electric roots band that performed an eclectic mix of rock, swing, blues, country and jazz. Within the past year I have re-energized my theater and cabaret career, appearing at Davenport's Cabaret, in a new solo show, as well as productions at Big Noise Theater and Stage 773. o short films and started working on my own web series, about my life as a singer/voice teacher. I also have an art song project consisting of original material with composer Jaroslaw Golembiowski. As a singer and actress I have performed with many major theaters in the Chicago area, including Court Theater, Victory Gardens, National Jewish Theater, Bailiwick Theater, and Prop Theater.
*** Lesson Details *** As a classically trained singer I will instruct you in all aspects of singing technique, from breath control and support to improving your tone, range, flexibility and resonance. I have recently completed training in Somatic Voicework, The LoVetri Method, which has enriched my understanding of the mechanics and health of the voice, as well as applications of technique to CCM or contemporary musical styles of singing. My familiarity with a variety of musical styles from pop/rock, R&B, and country, to musical theater, lounge and jazz makes me an ideal teacher for those interested in contemporary styles.
I have spent many years developing my own style of singing and instruction. I draw on my experiences and training not only in music, but theater and movement, (Linklater, Alexander Technique, Grotowski) to create a well rounded approach to singing and performing. As an instructor, I am most interested in helping students find their true voice and artistic style. I teach students to find expression through and with a foundation of technique, rather then in spite of it. I also am very interested in helping students deal with the mental/emotional aspects of performance, an all important area so frequently ignored by music teachers. My style is nurturing, yet disciplined, and sprinkled liberally with good-natured humor."

I have many years of experience in the theater as an actress, and I coach acting technique and performance. I coach singer/songwriters, and all types of singers, of all ages. *** Lesson Details *** Each lesson is tailor-made to suit the student's individual needs. Custom action plan will be given to each student on a case-by-case basis. No instruments are used in my lessons, as I train the voice to be a standalone instrument. However, if you would like to accompany yourself with a guitar, piano or percussion instrument, you are very welcome to do so.
*Please note that 15-minute sessions are ONLY available online. In-person sessions must be a minimum of 30 minutes. 31 and 61-minute sessions are for whistle register training only.

Margo was amazing! I went to Margo to improve my speech and speaking voice. Within a few minutes of talking to me, Margo diagnosed my problem and gave me execercises to do. I saw improvements in my speech after the first session! Her fun personality made the sessions enjoyable and I walked away with helpful excercises.
I have extensively studied vocal performance for many years and continue to add to my own technique. I have a Master of Vocal Performance Degree from the Chicago College of Performing Arts. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, where I extensively studied the anatomy of the voice. I am the founder of BAWS Studio where we train artists in all aspects of performance (singing, songwriting, recording, piano, and guitar). I previously worked for a recording studio (Sound Summit Studios in Naperville IL) where I teach voice and help singers record their music in the studio. I have previously taught at The School of Rock in Indianapolis Indiana. I have administered vocal lessons to every voice type at all different levels. Several of my students have recored albums and are currently performing all over the World.
I have a bachelors
degree in biology with a minor in art. After graduating college, I was a full-time high school biology teacher, volleyball coach, and director of the school musical. As a high school teacher, I learned first hand the kind of pressure and expectations that are placed on students in order for them to succeed. In college, I was the head student researcher on a two-year lab project. I took several upper level science courses including: biochemistry, calculus, organic chemistry, calculus based physics, cell biology, anatomy, and physiology. I studied marine biology in the Virgin Islands and am CPR certified.
*** Lesson Details *** Voice lessons with me are fun and effective. You can expect to hear improved technique from day one, eventually reaching your long term goals. I begin every lesson aligning the students voice through various vocal warm ups and exercises. We then work together to pick repertoire that will suit the singer's voice and they will enjoy singing. During a lesson we will also cover performance presentation, acting, diction, rhythm, musicality, style, and interpretation.
During tutoring you can expect a personalized plan based on your goals and aspirations. Since every student is different you can be assured we will come up with a plan that is designed just for you. I am a laid back tutor but will be sure to get the most out of you after our time together. Most students see at least a one letter grade improvement. So far, lessons with Ben have been VERY good (and productive! I'm naturally a reserved person, but He has gotten me to push beyond my comfort zone (that is "be louder"), which in retrospect has also helped me build my confidence in other areas. So at this point I look forward to having lessons, because I am growing in my understanding of how to use this God-given gift; a gift that's meant to be shared (not hidden away in silence).
Nicole is available to teach lessons for students of all levels. Beginning her singing career when she was 7, she most recently sang at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, was a winner of the international CS Competition in musical theatre, and is a Chicago F.A.M.E. finalist for Jazz and popular music. Combined with her training and professional experience, Nicole teaches singers to switch gracefully between multiple styles. She practices what she preaches: one night she might be singing Beyoncé, and the next morning she might be singing Handel's Messiah!
Nicole has been a young artist for Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, Metropolitan International Music Festival, and for Tiroler Opern Programm, under international instructors, including Elizabeth Bachman (from the Metropolitan Opera), Kim Josephson (Metropolitan Opera), Sharon Cheng (Caramoor),
Michael Fennely (Carnegie Hall), Wei-En Hsu (Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra), and Candace Evans (Santa Fe Opera). Nicole earned her Associates in Theatre from Brigham Young University ('12) and went on to acquire her BM in Vocal Performance from Illinois Wesleyan University ('14). Nicole obtained additional training from Boston University, Elon University, and the University of Alaska Anchorage.
I taught Algebra I and Geometry at Clemente High School in Chicago and AP Statistics, Geometry and Trigonometry at Libertyville High School Summer Program. I am currently teaching 7th and 8th grade Math at a private school in Buffalo Grove, IL. I love tutoring students of any age, from elementary to high school. It makes me happy when I see the progress they are making. My Master's Degree is in Curriculum and Instructions from Loyola University, Chicago. At one point in my life I wanted to be a pharmacist, but when I became a teacher, I realized that that is what I was meant to be. I love helping people. Julia is a highly knowledgeable, professional and personable teacher. My son has been tutored by her since the age of 4 and is now 13. His MAP and PARCC scores are off the charts and he just received his placements for Stevenson High School with the recommendations for the highest math classes offered to incoming freshmen. Julia taught him to love and be passionate about mathematics. Her primary goal is to make sure that the students learn in a stress-free environment and with that strategy she is able to accomplish brilliant results. I recommend Julia highly. She is very approachable and patient, loves children and loves what she does.
I have always been a self-studier in my entire life. Being able to learn with just books and your brain is a crucial skill to have! However, I know not everyone (and sometimes even myself) have the discipline and motivation to keep going during hard times. This is where a tutor would come in handy.
I enjoy tutoring (doing it ever since I was in high school for my classmates) and helping other overcome problems that I have encountered myself because it enhances my own understanding and makes me happy that my self-studying is helping others. Sometimes, my students even bring up alternative ways of thinking that I have never thought of before!
I am a Civil Engineer specialized in Earthquake Engineering, but have diversified my background throughout the years (I am an avid student myself!). My teaching experience includes working as a professor at my university back at home and tutoring high school students- mainly in mathematics and physics. I had no idea how lucky I would be to find Pedro. I am an interior designer learning Autocad and having no prior experience with the program, Pedro made it totally accessible. He is a phenomenal teacher and is so kind and patient. He provides foundational rules at the beginning of each session and has clear goals mapped out for every step of the way. We have done a number of exercises that I did not think would be possible for me to accomplish at this point. I am so grateful to have found him and highly recommend him!!!!!
