Private Broadway Singing Teacher

I am a recent graduate and studied vocal performance and pedagogy. I love singing and figuring out the best way to teach each student as an individual. I know that everyone learns differently and I want the lesson to be as fun and efficient as possible! I have experience teaching everything, from the "broadway belt" (in a healthy way) to classical arias and art songs, to popular music!

Let's see if we're a good match!

About Mackenzie

I am a singer, piano player, and church choir director. I graduated from Central College in Pella, IA with a BA in biology and music, specifically vocal performance and pedagogy. I have had the opportunity to sing with world renowned artists, including Gabriel Espinosa, Kim Nazarian, Ethan Butle

If you are looking for an amazing teacher who is knowledgable, patient, passionate, and all-around just a fantastic person, looks no further! Mackenzie is an amazing teacher that helped me understand my range, how to properly use my breath, and how to sing like a rockstar! I highly recommend her!
Tristan
Mackenzie is a skilled educator, musician, and vocalist with diverse experiences in vocal performance: jazz, pop, musical theatre, classical...she does it all! She is a joy to sing for, and creates a comfortable, safe environment where I feel empowered to make music. Mackenzie makes singing FUN, and is so knowledgeable in helping me reach my vocal goals. I’m so glad I found her!
Joshua
Mackenzie (Mack) was an excellent teacher. I hadn't had music or voice training since middle school and she was very helpful, despite me being tone deaf. Overall, it was a great experience and now I can sing without embarrassing myself!

My Grandson has taken lessons from Carolyn for a few years. He is 11. He has done very well with her. She knows her stuff and is very encouraging to him. She has recitals every 6 months and he has really advanced. I would highly recommend her.
Karen
Three of our children have taken piano lessons from Carolyn. Our oldest son, who has graduated from college, still plays daily. Our other two sons are current students; both began lessons in early grade school.

Mrs. Calahan is patient, kind, and affectionate with her students. She shows a keen interest in encouraging them to succeed, while tolerating their occasional quirks. Our kids have had the opportunity to play classical pieces, jazz, ragtime, show tunes, and popular music. Their piano playing abilities have progressed steadily under Mrs. Calahan's instruction and her unintimidating approach has allowed them to develop an ever-increasing appreciation for music. We are lucky to have found her!
Cynthia
Ms Calahan is an amazing piano instructor and has a great way with kids to make piano fun but also serious enough so your kid(s) will become excellent piano players. My daughter started at age 9 and is now 14 yrs old and continues to get challenged and have with fun with Ms Calahan. She also has piano recitals at the beautiful Steinway gallery in an intimate setting. She keeps the recitals casual so kids don’t feel stressed but still gain the confidence to perform in front of friends, other students and family. My son also took piano lessons from ms. Calahan to gain a foundation and learn how to read music for 2 yrs. this helped prepare him for guitar.

Hey, I'm Perri! I want to help you build a solid foundation for your sound so you can take your singing to the next level. I'm all about technique - if you have a strong foundation, you can sing anything you want. I am a classically trained mezzo-soprano, but this type of technique can be applied to any type of singing, be it jazz, country, or pop. My priority is making sure you're using your instrument in the healthiest, most efficient way possible.

Whether you're a beginner just dipping your toes into singing, or an experienced singer who would like to hone your craft, I'm here to help.

I was trained in the classic, old school, "Italianate" method of singing, focusing on appoggio and chiaroscuro. We will work on your breathing technique, opening your sound, and connecting your vocal registers so your voice sounds seamless and even. This is great for people who have ease and confidence in one part of their voice, but difficulty accessing other parts (usually either the high range

"I absolutely loved working with Jameson. The greatest skill I gained from his lessons was confidence in my voice. I felt that he really wanted to get to know me, my voice, and my goals in singing. I primarily went to him for help on musical theater auditions, and after working with him, I began getting more callbacks. He coached me on my singing, as well as how to be more expressive in my singing. His energy and enthusiasm made me comfortable to try things like belting higher or attempting riffs, expanding my skills as a singer. In lessons, Jameson combines professional training and technique with personal tips, making each lesson more effective and memorable. His enthusiasm makes every lesson both fun and worthwhile. His critiques are always paired with genuine encouragement. For new or experienced singers, Jameson has valuable insight."

She made recommendations, was wonderfully engaging, and her insight and ear highlighted some important tweaks that I would have overlooked in my haste to prepare.
