We are loving cello with Quinn! We had her in person before COVID and now online. She does a great job of guiding the learning process and working with the student (my daughter as an individual)

My 9 yr old daughter began cello lessons with Quinn about 2 weeks before lockdown started. I was worried that online lessons wouldn't work out, but Quinn has been amazing. She's great at explaining everything so that my daughter understands, and she pushes just enough to keep her interested without being overwhelmed. She also answers questions promptly by email when any problems arise. I can't recommend her highly enough!

"I met Jeffrey after one of his performances at Loyola University and hired him to give my son lessons. He is really passionate with his teaching and seems quite knowledgable on the subject of classical cello. Would definitely recommend him to any individuals or parents looking to hire a cello teacher out there."

"My 12 year old son has been taking lessons with Claire online for a couple of months. He had been playing a few years in school but never had an individual lesson. She is helping him create some new habits while improving his technique and musicianship. She is very encouraging and supportive (and fun!). Looking forward to seeing how he progresses in the future!"

"Nicholas began as my son's cello instructor when he was 10, and we are now beginning our third year under Nicholas' instruction. He has a very patient, quiet manner while teaching, though it is common to hear chuckles coming from the room during the lesson. Nicholas is himself an excellent musician, but he has very realistic expectations for his students. My son has made tremendous progress on the cello in a short time. Originally, we were in the same city with Nicholas, so the lessons occurred in our home. Recently, we moved out of state, and are thrilled that we can continue lessons with him online. Some of the things I have especially appreciated about him are his punctuality, being prompt and timely in his communications with us, and his willingness to work out scheduling details with us. Highly recommend Nicholas!"

Is There Such Thing as a Left-Handed Cello? How to Play as a Leftie

Handedness is the sense that one hand is more dexterous or coordinated compared to the other. Researchers usually determine an individual’s handedness by observing which hand is used to write or eat. Although the causes of handedness are not fully understood, about 10% of the population is left handed or ambidextrous according to Dr. M.K. Holder, a researcher and specialist on handedness. Many left handed students wonder if they will need a specialized instrument in order to learn to play …

What are the Hardest Cello Pieces? How to Get from Beginner to Advanced Player

As a beginner I often told myself I would know I am a really great cellist when I could play Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee at full speed. To my young ears, this simply had to be one of the hardest cello pieces with its high range, chromaticism, and famously fast tempo. As my musical career continued I worked on these and other skills to reach a point I could begin learning the piece confidently, and it was only a matter of time before I achieved my goal. Of course, this wasn’ …

What is the Suzuki Cello Method?

The Suzuki method, founded in 1945 by violinist Shinichi Suzuki as the Talent Education Movement, is one of the most enduring teaching methods, or pedagogies for young string players. Suzuki’s main goal for his music education system was to give students a “noble spirit,” which would instill respect and cooperation through his method. The method was brought to America in the 1960s by John D. Kendall, and today the Suzuki Association of the Americas instructs new teachers and studen …
