Amazing instructor and person to know! Susan is deeply involved in the classical music community and clearly one of the best in Chicagoland. Recommend for any student who wants to go to the next level of playing.
Aparna H.
Susan's instruction and mentorship has been transformational for my daughter's evolution as a classical pianist. The depth of articulation in her performance and the musicality in her playing she owes to Susan. Susan not only teaches with real dedication, but she also inspires her students to reach and keep attaining new heights in their piano performance. She demands commitment from her students, but is always encouraging and ensures her students gain confidence and a strong foundation in music education. Susan has extensive experience in teaching and her students do very well in piano competitions.

I teach Music Theory to all ages, both as preparation for the AP Music Theory test, for remedial study for high school, college, and graduate-level music theory, and to those who just want to learn how to be better performers and composers through a more comprehensive knowledge of theory. To me, music theory is not a boring, pedantic study - it is the study of what makes music work, how it moves us, how the great composers and songwriters thought. It is the architecture of music and can give us invaluable clues as to how to perform or compose a given piece of music. I teach everything from the absolute basics of note names and durations to advanced classical and jazz theory and analysis, modes, jazz harmony, orchestration, set theory, serialism, and extended techniques. I also teach lessons in Sibelius music notation software and Logic Pro music sequencing software.

About Matthew

I have been playing piano for over twenty years and have been teaching private lessons since 2010. I have a bachelors in classical piano and music composition from Wheaton College, where I was the winner of the 2009 Ben Heppner Concerto Competition, and a masters in jazz piano from the Jacobs Scho

"Great dedicated teacher

Can't say often enough how lucky we are to have Jesse found as the drums and guitar teacher of my two sons. You can tell that he lives for music and it's not just a job for him teaching students. He is determined but patient with the kids and really has educational skills. Furthermore he is absolute reliable and committed. The regular recitals combined with a pot luck at his place are really fun!"

"Collin was actually an employee of my music studio before he moved to Philadelphia. He is an extremely knowledgable and talented bass player, well versed in all aspects of contemporary music including blues and especially jazz. He is also a consummate music theory instructor and is able to teach voice, piano, guitar, and trombone very capably. With his calm, gentle demeanor, Collin is able to put any student of any age at ease and help them to do their musical best! He is well organized and tailors an individual program for every student, being sure to include their musical interests, and then helping them to expand their musical world, I highly recommend him as a teacher!"

"Patient, Supportive, and Encouraging.

It was what I was looking for when looking for a coach. Although, I wasn't trying to be the next American Idol, I did want to not butcher anymore of the songs I love to sing. I had taken singing lessons in the past and was hesitant with this experience, the issue was my instructors wanted me to learn what they wanted to teach and honestly didn't make for the best experience.

Albino made this experience different, our first few lessons were focused on learning some basics skills and drills. We explored what songs might be suitable to start off with given my range and where I was and started to practice and practice and practice, until i felt comfortable. The more comfortable I became and the better I became with my drills, the more options we explored, the more of the songs I wanted to really sing started to come into conversation and I felt as though I was and continue to make progress.

Albino has never made this about himself. He has never pushed his own style on me and I can really appreciate that. He genuinely enjoys helping you achieve something you never thought you could or were nervous of doing. He pushes you just enough that you feel challenged and want to continue doing it.

I've come so far in such a short period of time and I have him to thank. This is the man you want to be coached by if you're looking to be pushed in the right direction without feeling like there is only one way to get to where you want to be."
