About Kelvin
I am a highly organized, outcome-driven and motivated professional musician and educator with solid experience in the classroom. For the past 25 years, I have been employed with Amati music academy and seven years on the faculty of University of St Francis.
I am very comfortable with all aspects of the current music syllabus, including teaching musical concepts (such as duration, pitch, dynamics, tone color, texture and structure) as well as performance, composition. I am fully qualified, with a Bachelor of Education in Music, Double Masters in music performance and education from University of Nottingham.
I am proficient in classical, jazz and Celtic fiddle violin and possess solid skills in piano (grade 8-13) Royal conservatory system.
Throughout my teaching career, I have been driven to help students achieve their very best. I str
ongly believe that music has the power to change lives – to enhance the social, cultural and spiritual lives of people, and serve as a profound medium of personal expression. Professional perform experience: The Chicago, Natalie Cole, Smokey Robinson, Three tours with Moody Blues, YoYo Ma etc....
The most important thing I look for in a student is communication skills, as well as talent. I like to nurture students and help identify their individual strengths, which is a key factor in shaping a musical persona that will make its mark both on and offstage. I do not advocate a uniform technique for all students. Physical differences and learning styles are always taken into consideration. Potential is as important to me as early achievements and experience. My goal is to help students become self-sufficient, discriminating artists. I discuss practice techniques often and develop individualized scale routines. I encourage initiative and expressive musicality as well as precision. Above all, music needs to bring obvious joy to the student, regardless of the difficulties.”

Rich was happy after the first class and he started to wonder, would Kelvin be available to teach him a guitar lessons as well (we thought it is a great beginning) :)

Also, Kelvin immediately pointed out that the violin we have picked is too small for Rich, where other teacher didn't say anything about it. We changed the size and it helped a lot with holding violin and feeling more comfortable. Thank you !

Kelvin is a great teacher. He understands and teaches in a way that makes sense to me. If you’ve played the Banjo you know the teacher needs a lot of patience and he does. He provides the right direction and more importantly listens to my questions. There is no doubt in my mind if you have to learn or improve your banjo skills Kelvin can help.

I have a B.S. in Music Education. I have worked with several disabled students patiently guiding them, finding creative ways to make music accessible to them. I believe it is not about me or the parent, but the student. I work with children of all ages believing that we can find a way that works so that in a few months you see results. Anyone can learn to sing or play but not everyone is going to enjoy it without the right approach and teacher. I don't want to hear a student say that the teacher didn't listen to me, they wouldn't entertain my ideas.
In my studio I have a studio piano and a keyboard. We have monitors and microphones and the ability to record. I encourage the composer to the pop music player, from the classical artist to the Broadway singer.
Currently, I have several students that compose their own music, helpi
ng one of those students to become a copyrighted artist.

*** Lesson Details ***
For the child I have had the most success with the Bastien method and for the Adult pianist I usually use Alfred's method books. I constantly have access to musicnotes.com to download any current or older hit in addition to the method books. I want you to learn to note read and then to play by chords. I never want the student to lose their creative, artistic ability. They should feel welcome at all times to add input to the lesson. I want you to have fun learning and find the ability in you to make music. Please contact Takelessons if a time does not suit your availability. I may be able to work something out.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I own my music studio w/ piano, seating for parents. I have vocal equipment, microphones and monitors

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will have a music bingo game with me and whatever else is needed to supplement the lesson

*** Specialties ***
I teach any style and method that is needed, but prefer Bastien, feeling it doesn't drag the information out. I teach note reading and playing classical music to playing by chords and learning how to split the voicing

About Michelle Kei
Michelle Kei I., a soprano of Japanese and American heritage, "uses her strong dramatic soprano to slice through the orchestra" in a varied repertoire that encompasses Verismo to Broadway. Possessing a captivating stage presence and praised as "superb," "gifted," and a "constant breakaway from the rest of the vocal pack," she has entertained audiences on stages around the world.

Those are the first two sentences of my professional biography. I thought I'd use them to get the ball rolling.

Ever since I can remember, I've always been a performer. I come from a very musical family. I was always singing! I sang at home, in church, in show-choir and musicals at school - basically anywhere I could find an audience!

When I decided to go to college to study music, I chose the prestigious School of Music at Indiana University. I wanted to
sing Broadway, but my father encouraged me to study classical singing first, so I'd have the foundations for a bulletproof technique that could endure a long and demanding career. I'm so glad that he did!

Who would have thought that I would learn to LOVE opera?!? It had everything that Broadway did, and so much more! Plus, I learned to fill a theater with the sound of my voice and soar over the orchestra WITHOUT A MICROPHONE!!!

Would you like to learn how to do that? I can show you how.

Let me help you find your REAL VOICE!!!

What you can expect from me:

- I will provide a supportive and effective work environment.

- I will make recommendations on repertoire based upon your goals

- I will provide you with an individualized regimen of study based upon your strengths and development, not a standardized format of study.

What I expect from you:

- Learn the musical selections we choose. Your lesson time should be used for improving your technique, not learning your music.

- Leave your outside life at the door. It will be waiting for you when you leave.

- Enjoy the process. Experiment. If it doesn't work, try something else. Take constructive criticism as an opportunity for improvement, not as a personal attack.

- Commit yourself fully! Be engaged. The benefit you receive is equal to the work you put into the process.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about SingITforte/Robert and Michelle. My daughter had previously been enrolled in private voice lessons 3 different times at 3 places. I was dissatisfied because while she was getting practice she wasn’t learning and growing as a vocalist. My daughter and her friends are constantly singing and involved in musicals. While at a performance I noticed a dramatic difference in their vocal performance. When I asked their parents about what they were doing they both told me that their children were enrolled in lessons with Michelle and Robert.
I enrolled my daughter and it has really been such a positive experience. She loves going to her lessons. They are professional, positive and encouraging. She is learning so much and is improving and strengthening with every lesson. Lesson location is convenient and secure. We have finally found what we have been looking for in vocal instruction. Wonderful, competent instructors who are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

I would not have been prepared whatsoever for the (what seemed like) never ending process of college auditioning. While college auditions are typically anxiety boosters, Michelle and Robert’s technique and ways of preparation over prepared me to the point where the audition was a breeze. With their help using mock auditions including sight singing, how to self warm up, posture and the necessity for 3-5 pieces of repertoire that fit my image and sound, I would not be where I am today. I knew nothing of the tediousness that a college audition was. Throughout my practice we worked on acting, something I needed major reform on. With practice, my acting made me more confident performing my piece as well as engaged my audience. Without both of their motivation and push I would not have succeeded the way I did and my audition would have been a lot bigger and scarier, when in reality it wasn’t. The biggest help for me, I believe was the mock auditions. With constant practices that mimicked the actual audition, this prepared me both mentally and physically for what the actual procedure would be like. I practiced entering the room as well as greeting the judges, something I hadn’t thought of prior. Interacting with the judges seemed a lot less nerve racking with the use of practice questions and how to answer them in a polite and engaging way. As we continued to practice, my nerves subsided. It became routine and over prepared me for the actual audition. Without Robert and Michelle’s aid I would not have been able to overcome some of my personal anxieties as well as succeed the way I did. Their constant motivation and cheer helped my nerves and allowed me to completely relax yet stay focused when practicing. I wouldn’t have the confidence I have today without their help aiding me in my vocal presentation and interaction with school officials/judges. Any student would be extremely lucky to have Michelle and Robert prepare them for college. With their tough work ethic and constant motivation, success surely follows.

Grace has been truly wonderful with both my 5 year old daughter as well as with my own adult lessons. With no music background and hectic schedules, I am satisfied with the progress in both of our cases. Love her professional yet personable demeanor as well. Delightful chemistry with my young daughter which certainly promotes continuous interest in her early age group. Has already been recommended.

Nina is very talented, I have zero music experience and in just a few weeks I am learning timing, reading rhythm and tab and starting to play some songs I want to learn. She has a real gift for music and teaching and is able to assess how a student learns and can modify the lesson seamlessly to fit that learning style. She is very patient and positive and its clear that Nina really cares about your progress. She's good people.

About Molly
15 years ago, I started learning to play piano and began my life-long pursuit of music. This pursuit has led me in a wide variety of directions. Today, I am a doctoral student at Wheaton Graduate School, and enjoy playing and teaching piano in my free time.

I have a passion for a wide variety of styles of music. For several years, I played piano professionally for weddings, shows, and musicals. I have led worship for many churches in Michigan and Connecticut. During my time at Yale, I was president of an organization called Yale Musical Cure, in which I played piano at hospitals, hospices, and benefit concerts. At Yale, I also gained teaching experience, and have loved teaching students ever since.

My teaching style varies from student to student. Music is a wonderfully diverse subject and every student has her or his own aspirati
ons. I will do my best to cater each lesson to the student's goals and interests, whether that is classical, rock, jazz, folk, country, pop or anything in between.

Lessons will vary significantly from student to student. Not only does every student have different goals in mind, they all learn differently as well. I do my best to customize my lessons for each student's goals and needs. A typical piano lesson may involve music-reading, chord studies, technical work, scale practice, theory, and of course learning songs!

I am a flexible teacher and am excited to teach students to truly understand music and enjoy playing the piano. Please reach out if you have any questions or interest in taking lessons.

We had a wonderful experience with Dan as my son's drum instructor. My son started at a fairly young age (6) and was interested in playing more what he heard on the radio, anywhere from Taylor Swift to Metallica. Dan was extremely patient in developing his lessons with my son by incorporating these types of songs in his lesson and keeping my son's interest up throughout the 30 minute lesson/"jam session." I'd highly recommend Dan to anyone interested in learning drum skills like those of Neil Peart, Buddy Rich, and other rock and roll legends.
