Italian Lessons in Des Plaines. Amazing Teachers.

Ciao, my name is Milko and I am a native Italian speaker who currently lives in Chicago. I love languages and I'm passionate about the skills that make us able to express ourselves in any situation. My lessons will use materials taken from real life, like songs, short stories, videos or article from Italian newspapers. We can talk about literature, cinema, cuisine, tourism or anything you will find more interesting. We will take care of grammar rules and common mistakes that will make you sound like a pro Italian speaker. I offer in person and online classes for all skill levels.

I feel that learning in general and learning a foreign language in particular is about repetition and I ask my students to repeat everything I teach over and over again until they know it by heart. I keep my lessons simple to avoid overwhelming the students and to allow time for them to repeat what they learned earlier. I teach the words that form part of the so called core vocabulary; words that are chosen according to frequency and range (in the sense that they “occur across a wide variety of texts”) It is often said that the first 2000 most frequent words cover approximately 90% of the vocabulary used by native-speakers in daily conversations. This means that for a student they represent the basic resource to be able to communicate.

I've been teaching Italian for 12 years and my students have gone to learn and love not only the language, but also the rich Italian culture. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to handle basic conversations; later you'll learn to talk about the past and the future, etc. I use different types of materials: books, but also extracts from magazine, songs, videos, commercials, etc. I love mixing language with culture and pop-culture as they all are tightly connected.

Sessions include homework help, concept review, studying for tests, and honing skills as needed. I have years of tutoring experience and adapt my tutoring style to the student's learning style.
