Learn to knit basics
Hand Made Washcloths - In this beginners class Karen Jacobson will teach you how to cast on, knit, yarn over and bind off to create a homemade wash cloth. You bring yarn (4 1/2 oz. skein of sugar and cream 100% Cotton yarn) and needles (pair size 7 or 8, short ones are easier to work with) and you leave with the pattern and the know how to begin your own projects. This pattern can be easily converted to make other items, from table runners to scarves.
Hand Made Slippers and Baby Booties - Learn to knit and purl. In this more advanced class Karen Jacobson will review knitting basics (cast on, knit, bind off) and will teach you how to purl and make pom-poms to create a pair of homemade baby booties. You bring yarn (2 oz skein 4 ply worsted weight Cotton yarn) and needles (pair 10 1/2) and you leave with the pattern and the know how to begin making your own slippers. This pattern can be easily converted to make adult size slippers as well.

Are you looking to take up a new, relaxing hobby? Or maybe it's been a couple of years and you need a refresher? For the more experienced crafters, even if you just need help with a new project, I can get you where you want to be! With my guidance you'll be able to cast on and knit, and as time goes on you'll be creating wonderful garments in your own unique style. I specialize in sock knitting, colorwork, and pattern reading and writing, typically using my own books and teaching materials, as well as: printed material, online resources, YouTube videos, and podcasts. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels - so whether you're just starting out or want to learn something new, I'm your girl!

I offer patient guidance and encouragement. I see knitting as a process of growth and development- moving forward at a pace that the student is comfortable as we cultivate confidence and technique.

I believe knitting is a wonderful skill and a great, relaxing way to pass the time. Whether you are a beginner or a past knitter looking to review the basics, I would love to help! I do my best to adapt my teaching style to the student so that there is as little frustration as possible. Above all, I want my students to enjoy learning and give them a solid base to advance their skills.
I teach a few basic stitches and techniques such as:
- regular knit stitch
- purl stitch
- casting on
- casting off
- stockinette
- rib stitch

Almost any size needles and yarn should be fine.
I also recommend bamboo or wooden knitting needles (rather than metal) for first-time beginners but not a requirement. We will work with what you have. Most importantly, I hope you enjoy learning and develop an appreciation for the art of knitting. :)
