While teaching classical piano, I always try to incorporate the material that students like the most: Holiday songs, Broadway melodies and favorite cartoon songs. All of this definitely adds to the enjoyment of learning how to play. Besides having two recitals a year, I encourage students to play in front of their peers at school, to always play for their families and to participate in various competitions and festivals around the St.Louis area.

About Daniela

Hi ! My name is Daniela and I can't wait to meet you! I have been teaching piano and theory since 1994 and have loved helping my students discover the beautiful world of music. Seeing my students grow into well rounded and educated people that love art, are able to recognize different styles

Daniela was great at helping my daughter feel more comfortable during her first lesson. She was very knowledgeable and gave really good advice to take home and work on.
Vidita S.
Daniela was very patient with my child. My daughter was a little nervous but Daniela made her comfortable and boosted her confidence.
Tammy F.
Daniela is wonderful and our lessons are always fun. She lets me play pieces that I enjoy plus introduces me to new music that she believes I will also enjoy. She allows me to play freely but will correct my mistakes (wrong fingering :). But this only make me a better player and learning a new piece easier. As an adult learner I cannot say enough good things about her and her style. I really enjoy my lessons with her and I highly recommend her.

My student centered approach is inspired by engaging with a healthy technique (e.g. natural body movements of the hand, arm, and foot), musicianship (e..g. music vocabulary), and music theory (e.g. note naming, rhythm through chord identification etc..) Students will be able to explore repertoire ranging from European classical to American contemporary repertoire (e.g. jazz, gospel, pop etc...) Musical activities will enhance the lesson in our pursuit of developing your musical reading, piano technique, and personal voice!

About Leonard

Hi! I'm Leonard Hayes, I love the piano and I'd like the opportunity to share that love with you! Currently, I'm based in Los Angeles pursuing doctoral studies at the USC Flora L. Thornton School of Music. I hold performance degrees from the Eastman School of Music (M.M) and Lawrence University

Mr. Hayes has been my favorite piano teacher so far (and he was my 7th piano teacher!). He taught me to really understand classical piano music and helped me to find my own voice and expression. Under his tutelage was when I really began to understand the depth and detail and most importantly how to really bring life and personality to even the simplest of music. My technique also improved vastly as Mr. Hayes is very detailed and disciplined when it came to breaking bad habits and using as much of your body to enhance and take control over your playing. Being Mr. Hayes’ student was life changing and a huge turnaround in my piano career, so I unequivocally absolutely positively recommend him to be your teacher.
Cassandra
Leonard Hayes is hands down the best teacher I have ever met. I have had trouble playing without pain for the 4 years that I have been trying to learn the piano, and Leonard is the only teacher that has helped me learn healthy techniques for playing expressively on the piano. In addition, he is kind, patient, and understanding, no matter what. I heartily recommend him for any level of student, whether you’re an expert or an eternal beginner like me.
Jasmine
Leonard Hayes is a world class instructor and performer! His understanding of piano pedagogy is superb and produces fantastic results. I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing his work first hand, He trains all levels of performers and has a load of patience ! Most importantly, he encourages a love for piano, the art, skill, and history. He’s your best choice in piano teachers, trust me!

"I am very pleased with Kenneth and highly recommend him as a piano teacher.

Kenneth is very patient and supportive with my six year old grandson. During the first lesson before any instruction began, Kenneth assessed my grandson's skill level and ability to focus. Lessons begin promptly and end on time. Kenneth was very helpful in finding a reasonably priced keyboard so that my grandson can practice. My grandson enjoys lessons with Kenneth and thinks his studio is a "cool" place.
Kenneth uses non-traditional and more interesting methods of teaching piano which appeal to children. He encourages my grandson to practice his lessons and afterwards, spend time experimenting on the keyboard.
Kenneth and Wendy are very professional and personable."

I played some instruments growing up and always wanted to try piano but didn't try until college. I initially had some unrealistic goals for myself, and Rena was able to help me set some more reasonable ones while also making sure I was enjoying what I was learning. Teaching Piano in Columbia

By Tara G.-Columbia Piano Teacher

As a piano teacher in Columbia, I have very much enjoyed my first group of piano students through TakeLessons! I love that I am able to work with students of all ages who are pursuing various styles of music. I enjoy knowing that I am helping adults pursue a new found passion for music. Yet, at the same time I get to help young students begin their journey to becoming life-long music lovers! Additionally, teaching voice and piano lessons has helped improve my own skills as a choir director at the high school where I also work. My improvement has also helped my high school choir students soar to new heights, thanks to this great opportunity provided to me by TakeLessons.

My favorite teaching memory so far is when one of my young students was working on note identification. I asked her, “What kind of note is this?” (The answer I was looking for was “dotted quarter note”.) She replied, “That’s a spotted quarter note.” I smiled for the rest of the lesson! Memories like this make teaching lessons in Columbia so enjoyable!
