Music is my life. Since the age of 16, I have studied the guitar extensively. During my high-school years I was involved in band, marching band, choir, and independent music theory. I started my first band when I was 19 in the U.S. Army, and my life has never been the same since. I played music

Music theory can be very very interesting, or very very boring. I enjoy the “interesting” version, which means that we’ll be learning music theory that you want to focus on to achieve your musical goals. Need to start or improve your songwriting skills? No problem. Want to compose a beautiful instrumental piece for a film or game? No problem. Need to cram for an upcoming college semester? I’m here to help.

My point here is that the CONTEXT is super important when learning music theory; otherwise, it’ll feel like just a bunch of rules. Let’s keep it fun and interesting instead, shall we?

About Daniel

I love teaching and using humor to make learning fun. I like a lot of different styles of music, with a special love for blues, jazz, rock, and video game music. I've been playing the guitar for almost 20 years, the piano for nearly 15 years, and I've been singing since high school. I taught mys

"Adam is extremely knowledgeable and knows how to help people with what they don't understand. He explains things as clearly and simply as possible and is good at finding other ways of explaining things if you don't understand the first time. His kindness and patience is always a good bonus. 10/10 would recommend."

"As a preface, I am a beginner-intermediate music producer, so very much of what I make is still rather amateur. I have spent tens of hours watching different YouTube videos and reading blogs about music production trying to learn how to get better. If I had to put a time frame, I'd say I've been producing as a hobby for about 4 years now.

Anyway, I had a 1-hour lesson with Mark and I feel like I learned more about mixing in that 1-hour than I have in the months watching YouTube videos. Mark is super knowledgeable about music production and its techniques and he had answers to all of my questions. If you're on the fence about booking, I would highly suggest booking with Mark as he is professional, knowledgable, and easy to understand as he breaks down his methods in a beginner-friendly manner - things some other producer mentors struggle with I feel.

I would definitely book again with Mark in the future. If you want to level up your production, Mark is your best bet."

Not only that but he makes sure you have fun! Whenever he’s teaching I can’t help but have fun. He’s always cracking jokes and making you feel comfortable. I love music lessons with him. "My middle-school aged son did a two hour session with Dr. Darrell one day where I would venture to say they covered a month's worth of music theory material. After a while I got tired listening to it, but my son didn't. Darrell is patient yet firm, tough but caring. The pairing of Darrell's deep knowledge with a student who wants to learn is a powerful combination. He is committed to the success of his students."

Music Student Face-Off: Memorizers vs. Readers | Which is Better?

As you learn songs and work through your music books, do you memorize the notes? Or do you read along every time you play? In this post, music teacher Vanessa G. discusses the pros and cons to the approaches...   Imagine your teacher gives you a piece of music to study. What's your process? Do you listen to a recording, memorizing the melody and the stylistic aspects before you begin, and then as you play? Or would you sit down and sight read the notes, and perfect it from that star …
