Oboe:
A family of double reed woodwind musical instruments, they are usually made of wood, but there are also oboes made of synthetic materials. The Oboe is commonly used in concert bands, orchestras, chamber music, film music, in some genres of folk music, and as a solo instrument, and is occasionally heard in jazz, rock music, pop music, and popular music. I will begin by teaching the basics of breath control, apeture, fingering, the reed, notes, rhythms, reading, songs, theory, and soloing.

Music is an art form that I have a passion for and it is my goal for each student to find their passion with music in their own way. I can provide the tools and know-how to build a foundation of playing that will be enriching for you as my student - because it was the result of your own hard work and commitment. There are many sides to music and I am happy to work with whatever a student would like to play; be it a sonata, concerto, or ensemble work and even a pop song or two! I want to make my student's experience enjoyable and worthwhile. This is a safe space for you as my student to try new things without judgment or harsh criticism. My teaching philosophy centers around you, the student! Learning oboe is a wonderful journey to embark upon and I am here to get you started. We will go over the fundamentals of oboe and music overall. But most importantly, we will focus on what you want to get out of your lessons. Do you want to play a piece of music for your family? Perhaps work on making your very own reeds! I am excited to be your oboe teacher, and I can't wait to begin.

I am an experienced teacher and performer. I have a Doctorates degree in music (Yale, University of Southern California, and University of Texas at Austin). I have been teaching kids and adults for more than 10 years. Anyone wanting to play the oboe is welcome! (Starting on the oboe, fundamentals, band/orchestra assignments, preparation for All-State auditions, college auditions, recordings, reeds, or for fun) Feel free to contact me with any questions!

I have played oboe for 15 years. I studied at California State University, Northridge, where I earned a Bachelor of Music degree in oboe performance. I have been tutoring for over ten years, teaching students of all ages and levels. It is important to me that I get to know my students on a personal level, so I can cater lessons to their individual goals/learning styles. Whether you want to work on reeds, prepare for an audition, or learn that song from Frozen, I look forward to working with you!

I am very passionate about music and oboe, so I can provide lots of important info about college auditions and prepping for an upcoming concert! I have played many pieces from the standard oboe repertoire and have learned many of the prominent orchestral excerpts for oboe! I can also help with any reed making questions!
