About Mariah
Hello! My name is Mariah and I am a passionate artist thriving to share love and light through the arts! I have worked as a professional dancer for ten years and have over fifteenth years of diverse training. In my early years, I received my training from the Debbie Allen Dance Academy where I was molded by the best educators possible to acquire outstanding skills. Learning ballet, jazz, tap, dunham, flamingo, hip hop, salsa, African, point, modern, character, musical theater, and Latin fusion. After high school I attended Columbia College Chicago where I earned my Bachelors of Arts in Theater. During my years at Columbia I combined my passion for dance and interest in acting by diving into as much extracurricular as possible! I was one of the first student co-choreographers to choreograph a main stage musical at Columbia. I was very prou
d to co-choreograph Once On This Island while still working towards my degree! I have a very diverse background and it now reflects in my professional life. Currently, I spend my time taking care of animals, hiking, going to the beach, teaching dance/theater, taking dance class, and keeping up with my younger siblings.

I have judged for Star Bound Dance Competitions, taught lecture demonstrations at various k-12 schools around LA, performed for the Special Olympics, LA Lakers Half Time Show, Spaceship Launch Performance, Playboy Jazz Festival, Wallis Annenberg Center of Performing Arts, and Broadway Cares, worked with networks like FOX and BET, and have danced with various celebrities like Demi Lavato, Chris Brown, and Becky G.

My strive for positivity will help push you to your goals! I am very open and always wanting to learn so I will bring new things to the table constantly. Though, I am a firm believer in repetition and detailed practice. I have been highly disciplined throughout my years in the dance industry, and now combine my skills to create a diverse learning environment.

I can't stress enough how passionate I am about helping people! I plan to conduct a personal lesson that is designed for you. Working together we will create a plan that will exceed your expectations. We will create a comfortable, safe, creative, and diligent environment that is best for you! Small group classes are available as well!

Dance culture has a tendency to be exclusive. But why? Everyone can dance, and everyone can learn to dance - we just need to know how our bodies are meant to move and what they are capable of doing! Dance is an art form whose pedagogy is passed down from teacher to teacher. As studies of biomechanics and kinesiology evolve, so should the approach to teaching dance. We know that not every “body” looks, moves or is built the same. With new developments in science, we can now teach dance with a more biomechanically safe method that allows the art form to be more accessible to all bodies. Not only will this allow accessibility to all dancers but also provides longevity to dancers.

I offer lessons that are designed to be achievable by any and every body - from non-dancers, to advanced dancers. The lessons are taught through a biomechanical approach that allows for accommodations and safe execution for all bodies and structural limitations while still staying true to the aesthetic of the ...

About Megan
I am a dancer, educator, and choreographer from the Chicagoland area. I have received a Bachelors of Art in Dance with a focus on pedagogy from Columbia College Chicago and have been teaching in all types of settings since 2014.

I have taught for companies such as Joel Hall Dancers & Center, Dance to Evolve, and Music House to name a few. With these companies, I have worked in both studio settings as well as in school and after-school programs. I have worked in Chicago Public Schools such as Drummond Montessori, Jackie Robinson Elementary, & Sabin Dual Language Elementary. Additionally, I have volunteered teaching dance in recreational centers such as the Bryant Center in Racine, WI. I was grateful to have the experience teaching fellow peers for a pedagogy practicum at Columbia College Chicago.

I teach ages 2 and up styles such as B
allet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, and General/Creative Movement. I believe that it is never too late to start dancing. I have worked with a 92-year-old dancer who was learning tap who even found a performance opportunity.

I work with all kinds of bodies to make sure that dance is achievable and safe for all. My instruction method is derived from a biomechanical approach to technique and movement that allows for accommodations and safe execution for all bodies and structural limitations.

A few of my goals as an instructor are to:
1. Teach dance technique in a safe and adaptable manner.
2. Create a safe and welcoming environment for people to pursue their passion for dance.
3. Promote an understanding of how the body moves and its capabilities in relation to dance.

Additional backing of my instruction comes from research done in the fields of Anatomy, Kinesiology, the biomechanics of dance, and personal experience. Some main sources used in this practice are driven by works by Erik Franklin, Margaret Wilson, and journals such as JDMS, and others on IADMS.

If you are unsure or have any questions, feel free to ask me any questions! My ultimate goal is to help you learn and enjoy movement and dancing!
