Suzuki pedagogy employed for beginners

About Farobag
Music Director of the Chicago Philharmonia Orchestra since 1985, Farobag has also served as Managing Director of the University of Chicago Performing Artists Series from 1989 through 2002 and principal conductor of its resident professional ensembles. A skilled interpreter of Baroque literature as well, Farobag continues in his capacity as Artistic Advisor to the Baroque Masterplayers, a virtuoso ensemble that concatenates period performance techniques with modern instruments thus creating a unique voice within the realm of 17th and 18th- century repertoire.

A double graduate of the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester, Farobag studied under Anastasia Jempelis, a pioneer of Suzuki violin pedagogy in the United States. In addition to the Suzuki curriculum, he is also associated with the Royal Conservatory Music Devel
opment Program that sets a national standard of musical achievement in various fields.

Befitting his penchant for encouraging artistic interest amongst younger members of his community, Farobag is also the principal conductor of the Zoroastrian Symphony Orchestra that offers a unique mixture of young and seasoned professionals sitting side-by-side in a strictly professional setting. Since the year 2000, the ZSO has staged highly successful performances at various venues in Houston, Chicago, and Toronto. A New Year's eve performance in Los Angeles is scheduled for 2014.

Having also taken graduate-level coursework in educational psychology, mathematics, and philosophy at the University of Chicago, Farobag offers tutelage in various areas of elementary and secondary education as well as in SAT, ACT and GRE test preparation.

Additionally, as a certified Reiki Master, therapeutic and/or educational sessions are also extended to those who may be inclined to alternative healing techniques.

*** Lesson Details ***
Sheer technique is necessary but insufficient to play an instrument well. Aural skills, that include the study of functional tonality and voice-leading are important factors that impart musicality. This is of great import if the prospective musician wants the audience to truly enjoy his or her performance !

Whether it be the 3 Rs or preparation in the performing arts, a remarkable instructor must go well beyond the subject matter at hand and help imbue the student with a spirit of wonder that, in due time, will foster enthusiasm necessary for excellence.

A child emulates and learns to communicate in his or her mother-tongue through a supporting and nurturing environment. Likewise, a student needs to be sufficiently motivated to embrace learning in a familiar supportive manner.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lesson take place in the living room. Driveway parking. No pets.

*** Travel Equipment ***
None; I do expect a reasonably good piano / keyboard at a student's home.

*** Specialties ***
Traditional and Suzuki-based education. Performance and musicality training is open to all instrumentalists.

*** CD's***

I decided to start singing lessons with Mr. Cooper about a year ago and I'm very pleased with the Service. I believe Mr. Cooper is a very gifted musician and singer who has a real ability to understand music and teach that understanding in a relatable way. I'm just beginning to learn about different musical concepts that really help me understand how to learn more effectively. I appreciate everything he's helped me with and plan to continue learning as much as possible.
I would highly recommend him for any relevant musical training.

I have had the pleasure of taking vocal lessons from Mr. Cooper for about 2 years now, as well as starting Suzuki piano not too long ago. He is a gifted teacher who truly has a passion for teaching and love for music! Not only has he improved my aural skills, but he has helped me understand music on a much deeper level! My knowledge of technique and overall musicianship has improved drastically while taking lessons with him. Mr. Cooper has challenged me and broadened my musical horizons. He has helped me advance and learn new technique on the piano, as well as expanding my vocal range and performance skills. I would highly recommend him!

I hadn't played the trumpet in 30 years. My first lesson with Nicholas was like starting from scratch. He is very knowledgeable, polite, professional, and definitely patient. I feel that that homework Nicholas assigned was spot on. I'm playing better already after only two days. I would certainly recommend him to a friend.

Brittany is absolutely one of the most delightful instructors I've been lucky enough to encounter. I came to her as an adult knowing nothing about either music or violin. In the months I've been taking lessons with her, I feel very proud of what I've learned so far.

Her home studio is beautiful and warm. She always greets me with a smile and knows exactly what our lesson plan and goal for the day will be. Brittany is extremely patient whenever I struggle to grasp a concept, and enthusiastically answers any question I can think to ask. That said, she isn't afraid to push you to try, either, which I very much appreciate!

Brittany is a lot of fun to work with, and I would wholeheartedly recommend her as an instructor.

In my seven years of teaching, my students have achieved placement in local youth orchestras and have been selected for concertmaster/principal positions in their school orchestras.
I structure my lessons based on the student's age, level, and personal goals, though I believe in the importance of setting a solid technical foundation and strengthening each student's inherent musical ability.
I specialize in classical training. Do not hesitate to contact me with questions!

About Kiyoe
*Cancellation policy: I adhere to the takelessons.com policy which requires 24 hours notice for rescheduled lessons. If 24 hours notice is not given for a missed lesson, the tuition for that lesson is forfeited.*
My priority in teaching violin is to acheive a balance of positive reinforcement and challenging, yet enjoyable new material. I emphasize proper technique and posture in order to avoid injury and promote an efficient and beautiful tone production.
I have been teaching violin since 2008 and love seeing my students grow as people and musicians. Former students have successfully auditioned into local youth orchestras and held leadership positions in their school orchestras.
I received my Master's degree in violin performance from DePaul University and am certified teacher of Suzuki books 1, 2, and 3. I am a believer in the Suzu
ki philosophy that every student can acheive if provided with the right environment and I specialize in setting a solid foundation for beginning students. Additionally, having developed my own career as a professional performing musician, I know the kind of training it takes for students to reach an advanced level.
For younger students, involving the parent is an important part of my teaching. I highly recommend that students 8 and younger have a parent observe each lesson so that they can properly assist daily practice sessions.
I also welcome the opportunity to work with adult students. It is a great joy to be able to help someone learn the instrument they always wanted to play.

It is important for me to teach the building blocks of music: scales, circle of fifths, and working with technique to make learning pieces easier. We will teach you about the parts of your instrument inside and out and even stretching methods to help keep you limber to prevent any injury. I teach not only classical music, but also jazz, rock, and contemporary. Keeping my students engaged and passionate about what they are learning is key.

About Sage
As a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Berklee College of Music, I attended the most prestigious contemporary music school in the world. I was exposed to so many amazing styles of music and rubbed shoulders with the most incredible musicians you can imagine (and performed alongside them)! I have taken my experiences and knowledge from Berklee and infused it into my teaching style. I do use Suzuki method because I believe it is an excellent foundation to work upon, but I also think that jazz and contemporary studies are a great way to expand one's horizon and learn about music in an entirely new and fun way!

I work with Suzuki method and Essential Elements for strings along with using other genres of music. Students will have fun while also learning music reading, theory and technique.

About Felicia
I graduated with a bachelors in music education at Western Illinois University in 2012. At the university I received talent grants to play in the symphony orchestra as a violinist, I also sang in the school of music top choir. I approach each student as an individual. Every violinist is different, and I help the student approach the violin in the most natural way for them. I integrate theory, eurythmics, ear-training and aural skills into every violin lesson. The student will learn to read music, clap, sing and play with a metronome, and use those skills to play the violin.

About Rachel
Hi! I began to study the violin when I was 6 years old, and have now been playing for nearly 18 years. I recently graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Violin Performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts, where I studied with Stefan Hersh. During my summers I have studied at the Meadowmount School of Music and Bowdoin International Music Festival. I made my Carnegie Hall debut in 2012, and have performed across the US and abroad.
