We will work on technique, musicality, and theory. I can help you prepare for performances and auditions, as well as music for pleasure.

About Kate
I participated in every musical activity I could find while growing up: choir, concert band, jazz band, marching band, and rock bands. I decided to focus on classical clarinet performance in college, but I also continued studying piano and bass. I graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2007 with a degree in Clarinet Performance.

While still in high school, I taught private clarinet lessons to younger students. Teaching helped me become a better player and leader. Since 2007, I have been teaching general music in Chicago Public Schools.

Private lessons allow me to tailor each lesson to the individual student. There are many ways of learning, and at least as many ways of teaching. My goal as a teacher is to pass on lessons of patience, creativity, appreciation, confidence and dedication to my students. I hope
my students will apply these lessons to their musical studies and throughout all areas of their lives.

Music has been an incredibly powerful force in my life, and it is my passion to share the benefits of music through instruction and performance.

***Lesson Details ***

I want my students to leave their lessons with skills and confidence that will help them in all areas of life. It is important to me that I give my students the ability to keep learning outside of our lessons. I believe that music is an art form that can be enjoyed by all!

Working with beginners is my specialty. I understand that each student learns differently, and finding the right method for my students is very important to me. The fundamentals learned in the first year of piano benefit any new musician, and can be applied to other instrumental studies.

Piano and clarinet lessons begin with an assessment of ability and setting of goals. I prefer to use the Faber and Faber piano series with most of my piano students. All lessons are a combination of theory, instrumental/performance technique, and ear training.

Every teacher has different teaching approach and philosophy. I'd say every teacher that I met tries their best to help their students to learn and develop as a musician and a well-rounded person. I love teaching and sharing with students. I help my students to gain interest in music and art and enjoy playing music. In my lessons, I aim to help my students to become independent in music playing and learning so they can keep playing music for the rest of their lives with or without a teacher.

About Yuen Yee
Mrs. Richardson is a full time private music teacher and an active performer in the Chicago. Originally grew up in Hong Kong, Yuen Yee studied Clarinet and Piano at Hong Kong Baptist University with John Schertle and Genevieve Wong, graduates of The Julliard School, USA. I have a master's degree in clarinet performance, but an even better degree in teaching music.

About Jon
Jon N. was born and raised in Mexico City and is proudly an American citizen. He has been performing since the age of three, on several instruments, studying music since fourteen, and still takes lessons to this day. What's not to love?

He is proud to teach at all levels, including many professional musicians with master’s degrees, adult beginners, and of course, kids of all ages between 8 and 75.

They are encouraged to select the music they want to learn, so we have worked on classical music and original compositions, which I also coach, jazz, blues, pop, rock, the Great American Songbook, reggae, seven different kinds of Jewish music, and other ethnic music from all over the globe.

Frequently the younger students will request a tune I've never heard, but I magically transform the MP3 into a handwritten score at the student's l
evel. Example, one of my adult beginners wanted to play the big symphonic poem Scheherazade, and I wrote out the main tunes for easy piano.

Students will be challenged as we use the Rose, Klose, Rode, Baermann, studies to begin, plus we will look at major composers such as Mozart, Weber, Beethoven, Rossini and their compositions or transcriptions. Solo as well as duet pieces will be covered, and also performing along with online resources as well.

About Paul
I have my bachelors degree in sacred music, my masters degree in music performance, and my doctorate in worship studies. I am an experienced music teacher with great interpersonal skills and enjoy creating a fun and meaningful learning environment for all ages of students. I teach music theory concepts as I teach music, and I also enjoy sharing the history of music and famous composers. Students should not just learn notes, but they should also learn about the wonderful story of music I have taught private clarinet, flute, saxophone, voice, and piano lessons for many years with great success. Many of my former students write to me periodically to tell me what they are doing in music. I look forward to working with many more students as we embark on the journey of learning music, pieces, history, and theory together. Students will look ba
ck and say they really enjoyed their lessons with me.

From first lesson through advanced high school students, I focus on quality of tone production and musicality.

About Hunter
My primary teaching philosophy revolves around the idea of creativity and cooperative problem solving. I believe that all musicians should be actively training their ears as well as their abilities on their instrument. I focus on all elements of basic musicianship while incorporating improvisation and composition in an inspiring way.

I grew up playing jazz, soul, R&B, folk, reggae, ska, funk, and classical music. I feel very comfortable working within all of these genres in both performance and educational atmospheres.

Regardless of age, learning a new instrument or art form can be daunting, so I like to include some sort of entertaining activities to keep tension low and inspiration high.

As a certified music teacher my lessons help students quickly gain confidence on the clarinet. With my guidance, students become well-rounded musicians able to play their favorite songs, explore new possibilities, make their own music, and take on new challenges!

About Jeff
My Lessons are customized in a number of ways to create the ideal experience for each student and family.

• Curriculum adheres to student and parent generated long-term goals
• Musical arrangements and accompaniments are created to accommodate individual interests
• Students can learn a variety of skills such as improvisation, effective practice habits, music composition, and many others
• Students have the option to explore multiple instruments.
• Instruction accommodates different learning styles and strengths.

Much of today’s music is created or altered through digital means. For this reason students of all ages should consider exploring different ways to interact with digital music in their lessons such as:

• layering multiple audio tracks,
• creating digital accompaniments to play along to
• looping, editing, and
adding effects to recorded audio

These aspects of a lesson not only better prepare students for the likely future of music but it also makes lessons more exciting, creative, and fun!

Jeff Johnson is a phenomenal teacher. He's been giving my 13 year old saxophone lessons since the fall, and I've been very impressed with the improvement. He's working with him on both jazz and traditional music and I've seen a lot of growth in the quality of the sound and rhythm of the music. But even more importantly, I've seen a change in my son's attitude. He was thinking of quitting saxophone early in the school year, and now is practicing without being reminded, and wants to stay with it through high school.

I am a professional clarinetist and certified music teacher (grades K-12) with 5 years of private clarinet teaching experience. Depending on what point in the journey each student is it, our lessons will cover all aspects of playing the clarinet, from proper breathing to performing solo repertoire. I strive to give each of my students a toolbox they can use when they encounter problems while practicing. I want my students to become their own teachers and to think intellectually about music and their instrument.

About Theresa
I am a professional clarinetist and a certified music teacher for grades K-12. I graduated from The University of Michigan (Go Blue!) with a Bachelor's of Music in Clarinet Performance and a Bachelor's of Music in Music Education. I am currently in Chicago studying with a clarinetist in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Teaching is one of my favorite parts of being involved in music. I love being able to share the joy of making music with my students. During lessons, we will work on all skills needed to be successful on the clarinet. This includes: reading music, having a good embouchure, correct hand position, proper breathing and air usage, good technique, and much more.

When I began taking lessons with Theresa, the intent was that it would be a temporary arrangement until I could find a new advanced instructor in the area. However, Theresa's young, fresh perspective and enthusiastic attitude towards learning turned out to be exactly what I needed, and I ended up staying with her for about three years. She's incredibly talented and empathetic, which makes being her student both fun and satisfying. She has high expectations and really pushed me to challenge myself, which ended up taking my skills to a level of proficiency that I hadn't expected. She also understands the difficulties and frustrations that come with being a student and is great at working through them. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a clarinet instructor, whether you just want to play and learn for fun, or if you really need and want someone that will push and challenge you to develop your skills. She's been my most influential instructor to date and I will always value everything she taught me!
