While instructing private voice students, I teach the functional approach to singing. This mindset allows the vocalist to focus on singing freely in all genres. I believe it is important to not only teach a wide variety of repertoire, but to also inform my students on vocal health. Along with a functional approach to the voice, I promote a safe and welcoming environment to make music in. If a student does not feel comfortable in the space they are in, then they will not perform to their fullest potential and I would not have completed my job. With some instruction, anyone can sing, and I provide the tools necessary to do so.

I met Jeffrey Harrison 12 years ago when I was done with school I was 23 years old. I had gone to audition for His musical theatre "why the birds sing to me". It was about a 20 years war in Northern Uganda of which I was a victim so I was familiar with the pain it came along with.

Jeffrey was very patient with the cast and believed in us. He gave us the best musical and theatre lessons. I loved the vocal drills
He was always available, kept time and wanted the best from us.

As for me, I loved music but wasn't familiar with theatre acts. He took his time to train me and bring the best out of me.

And for the first Time in my life i was able to perform in the National Theatre. I was a main Character so I was on the spot light. It was an amazing experience and I will never forget it.

Some of his cast members are now national celebrities like "Odong Romeo". U can find him on youtube.

You can also find the musical theatre "why the birds sing to me" on youtube. I am the girl singing in a white short and maroon skirt. What is life without love was my favourite song. It had a great meaning.

Jeffrey is Someone who would never give up until u got what he was instructing u to do.

He is the best Instructor ever.

I have been playing viola for 20+ years and I adore the sound and feel of the instrument. Playing viola has some unique challenges that make it just a bit more special than some of the other string instruments. I like tailor my lessons to the needs of each student. I like to focus on literature written specifically for the viola with some violin transcriptions. I strive to develop good musicianship, understanding of basic theory and good technique in both hands.

About Melissa

I began playing violin at age 10 after years of singing in children's choirs. I continued my musical journey at Sam Houston State University where I earned a Bachelors degree in Music and my Texas All Level Music teaching certification. I was a middle school orchestra director for 17 years. During

"Amber met me at her door with a smile on her face although I was much too early due to my over active excitement at arriving for my first lesson. Her first words to me were, "I'm so proud of you." That was a complement connected to my age of 83. I could have hugged her. Our lesson consisted of warming up my vocal cords after a long period of not singing. It was noted because of my hearing loss, that I was having trouble pitch wise and this would be something for me to work on besides my breathing. Amber's lesson was exactly what I needed and I can't wait for my next lesson."

"I have been taking lessons from Jonathan for 6 months and it has been a tremendously enjoyable experience. Jonathan has an excellent methodology to teaching music which is a mixture of technical exercises and application of the theory to learning how to make music. The dual approach allows me to not only understand and appreciate the theoretical and technical aspects of learning the instrument, but also gives me the sense of fun and satisfaction that comes with applying what I learn and seeing the output in a piece of music. Jonathan is extremely knowledgeable about the technical aspects of the instrument and can break this knowledge down for easy elucidation. Overall it has been great learning experience."

Learning to Read Music: An Introduction for Singers

Learning to read music can be a daunting task for beginner singers! Here, Ann Arbor, MI voice teacher Elaina R. shows you how to get started...   Not to point out the obvious, but as singers, we don’t have keys on our instrument. We don’t have buttons that emit the same pitch every time they are pressed. Most of us don’t have perfect pitch, either. This makes learning to read music quite different for singers than for other musicians. Not only do singers deal with learning h …
