Saxophone is my life! I have played saxophone for 16 years and nothing makes me happier than sharing my knowledge with others. I have a BM Jazz Studies/Saxophone Performance from Western Michigan University. While my passion is jazz, I also have plenty of classical experience. I love teaching saxophone!!
When I was 12 or 13 I heard John Coltrane's masterpiece album 'Giant Steps' for the first time. From then on I was absolutely magnetized to the saxophone and devoted my life to studying the great art form of jazz. I have come to believe that the only thing better than playing music is sharing music with others! Hailing from Flagstaff, Arizona, I attended Western Michigan University on a four year scholarship and received my Bachelor of Music, Jazz Studies in 2009. I had the privilege of studying with the great Trent Kynaston, as well as performing with some of the most influential jazz musicians today, including Bobby McFerrin, Stefon Harris, Billy Hart, Fred Hersch, and Randy Brecker. I now live in Chicago where I teach lessons and perform regularly with my band, The Winchester Sound. I teach jazz saxophone, classical saxophone, music
theory, jazz/pop theory, music performance, arranging and composition.
*** Lesson Details *** I believe everyone gets into music for a different reason, and therefore each student deserves their own custom curriculum. It is important for students to work at a pace and in a direction that is comfortable for them. For this reason, we will start with a consultation so I can figure out exactly what you aim to get out of taking lessons. From there we will incorporate some standard curriculum and method books that I enjoy using, as well as my own techniques that involve plenty of ear training and exercises to improve one's facility on the instrument (scales, patterns, technique). Most importantly, we're going to have a lot of fun! If you are not having fun it's not even worth your time. I am very laid back and promote a stress-free environment! Remember, I was once a beginner, too. I know what it's like to learn something new, so I want to be there to guide you through it!

I am also classically trained and am equally proficient in that area, although I would say I do prefer jazz. In summary, my specialties would be: jazz saxophone, jazz theory, improvisation, jazz arranging, saxophone performance, composing.

I have been teaching Saxophone for 18 years and have taught hundreds of satisfied students. When you sign up for saxophone lessons with me, you will begin by learning the basics of the instrument including proper holding and playing position, tone production, rhythm, first position notes, basic notation. Once you get the basics down, you will learn how to play your favorite melodies and songs. All of this can happen within the first 4-6 months of playing.
Dave K. began playing guitar at the age of 10. His influences include Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Guthrie Govan, Jimi Hendrix, David Gilmour, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Pat Martino, Pat Metheny and Scott Henderson. At the age of 17 he began teaching private guitar and bass lessons to classmates from his neighborhood high school. It was through this initial experience with teaching that he realized he wanted to make music education his career. Since then he has taught private guitar and bass lessons at Naperville Music, Rossi Music, Horizon Music, and the Plainfield School of Music. In addition, he has taught orchestra, guitar, and jazz band at Rolling Meadows High School. In 2000 Dave graduated from the University of Northern Illinois with a degree in jazz and classical guitar where he studied with world-renowned fusion guitarist Fare
ed Haque. In addition, Dave has studied guitar with some of the best guitar players in the world including Dave Uhrich and Andy Timmons.
In 2003-2009, he produced and played guitar in the Chicago based hard rock group Disonic. In 2007, Disonic singed to Darkstar Records and released the E.P. The Value of Truth. The Value of Truth was distributed in the USA and Japan. In addition, it was distributed digitally world wide on iTunes, Amazon, and CD Baby. In 2009 he attended VanderCook College of Music and earned a Master’s Degree in Music Education. Currently, Dave is playing bass in the Chicago rock group I Decline and guitar in the Dave K. Group. This year, Dave is releasing his first solo instrumental guitar album under his own name. In addition, he continues to teach rock, jazz and classical guitar and bass in the Chicago area.
*** Lesson Details *** As a private music instructor for the past 15 years, I personally have been granted the opportunity to teach a wide variety of music students. I have taught students ranging in age from 6 to 65. I have taught students from various ethnic and economic backgrounds. I have taught students with various physical, emotional, and learning disabilities. I realize it was the first lesson but I was a little disappointed that we spend nearly the entire time on housekeeping items, like canceling and re-scheduling appointments. I think that could have been covered with an e-mail or handout. I also thought we spent too much time going over the differences between acoustic and electric guitars - considering my age and background. Would have liked to see him demonstrate what I was asked to practice before the next lesson instead of just being told to refer to the workbook.

I have never had a saxophone lesson in my life, but I taught myself at train stations on the way to rehearsal. In Mexico my friends asked me, "Do you play saxophone?" and I lied and said Yes and my whole career was launched. Now as a professional, I wow the audiences in many different bands and solo.

I have my bachelors degree in sacred music, my masters degree in music performance, and my doctorate in worship studies. I am an experienced music teacher with great interpersonal skills and enjoy creating a fun and meaningful learning environment for all ages of students. I teach music theory concepts as I teach music, and I also enjoy sharing the history of music and famous composers. Students should not just learn notes, but they should also learn about the wonderful story of music I have taught private clarinet, flute, saxophone, voice, and piano lessons for many years with great success. My first lesson was great. Mr. Paul was very patient and judged my skill level before making a lesson plan. Initially I was nervous, because I have never taken lessons before, but that quickly went away. I can definitely tell that he knows his stuff when it comes to teaching. He a great teacher and conversationalist.

Paul was very pleasant. He thoroughly explained things to my daughter in a manner that she could understand. He listened to her play and they also played together.
This was her first flute lesson with Paul, but she's already looking forward to the next lesson.

Isaiah earned his Bacehlor's of Arts in Jazz & Contemporary Music Performance in 2019 from Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts. As an active performer, bandleader, composer, and teacher, Isaiah provides a uniquely engaging and holistic musical education for students of all ages and skill levels. His professional resume includes working with Macy's, Music Box Theater, Randy Deadman (Hamilton), Reuben Garza (Noname), Adam Thornburg (Wynton Marsalis), Jacob Victor (Downbeat), and Gustavo Cortinas (Downbeat). Over the years, Isaiah has earned numerous awards at jazz festivals across the country as an outstanding soloist. His primary teacher and mentor has been Jim Gailloreto (Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera).
Isaiah grew up in a family of teachers and musicians. His educational philosophy was shaped around th
e dinner table, and is equally as inclusive. Making music fun, encouraging self reliance and discipline, promoting musical literacy, and nurturing students' creativity are at the heart of his lessons. Really brilliant teacher, has taught me saxophone from scratch. Focuses on a full range of skills in every lesson, from sound, technical exercises, jazz theory, improvisation and jazz repertoire. Have loved every lesson, and feel like I've improved significantly. Definitely recommend him to anyone wanting to learn saxophone, or how to be a jazz musician.
I have played saxophone for 7 years, and have taught saxophone student's as a P.A.L.S. teacher at the Aspen Music Summer Festival. I enjoy teaching everything from beginning fundamentals to jazz and improvisation.
