I have been a professional oil painter for 36 years and have taught oil and acrylic painting classes fro over a decade. I teach a casual, fun but serious style class. My goal is to teach the basics of creating a simple strong painting in a semi realistic style. However, my goal is to allow the student to develop their own individual style. Understanding the creative process is also key to making good art.

I hold a BFA in art/education and with 5+ years teaching all ages in painting (acrylic, oils, watercolor), printmaking, ceramics, and metalsmithing. I continue working out of my studio and sell my work online. I (along with my team of artists) won the Chronicle Award for Best Mural in Austin for the mural Le Bonheur Le Vivre on 24th St. & Guadalupe. I look forward to teaching you all about art!

Deron C. has been exploring painting for over 20 years and has been teaching others how to express themselves creatively with it for over 10. He will lead you through a creative process that encourages creativity and allows painting students the freedom to paint in an intuitive way. Paint what you see whether the reference material is a photograph or a three-dimensional still life.

If you've never painted before, Deron will guide you through the basics of painting, color theory, and the elements and principles of design while helping you exercise and strengthen your creativity.

Age-Appropriate areas of instruction include:
-Painting Techniques such as Layering, Mixing, Washes, and Glazing.
-Understanding Composition.
-Understanding Color Theory: Opposites or “complementary colors” on the color wheel; Painting with medium tones, so that highlights and shadows can be applied easily. Using multiple colors equals “depth” and “interest.”
-How to Mix Paint: Mixing using the palette knife, brush, on palette, or on painting.
