Through the foundation I've gained by the influences of Mel Bay, Hal Leonard, and Suzuki musical instruction methods, I compile my own teaching materials. Using personally constructed guitar lessons, I demonstrate, instruct, and guide the student based on my assessment of their individual needs, skill level, and progress. Lessons are formulated in Modules, and advancement through them is based on the student's personal aptitude, skill level, and practice commitment. Learning is accomplished by ear as well as through essential methods of musical notation (tablature, 5-line staff, rhythmic comprehension). Students are trained to perform written music as well as to write and express the music within themselves.
I'm an encouraging and motivating guitar teacher with a casual relaxed approach. Teaching new guitarists is very rewarding to me. To see the light come on and watch a student perform a song, express themselves musically, and create their own composition is an awesome experience.

About Scott

The key to learning guitar......is finding the right instructor! I am an encouraging, effective guitar instructor and an experienced performing musician, offering in-person beginner through intermediate guitar instruction in my home and on line. It is very rewarding to me to help others along

I am a New York State Certified Public School Music Teacher and I have taught hundreds of children how to play the Clarinet. Clarinet can be a highly rewarding and VERY fun instrument. You quickly get the melody parts in Band and many Solos are available. That being said, Clarinet can be a challenging instruments to start on. There is something called the break (going to the high register) that can be VERY difficult for young students. I have 21 years of experience tips and tricks to help you become successful!

Worked with my daughter and she really enjoyed the lesson. She asked me if she could continue to take lessons with Christopher. He seemed to be able to easily have her gain confidence.

He is an amazing teacher. He helped me tremendously with my embouchure issues and my sound. His friendly style and energy really motivated me to practice more. Can't wait to get back to school and audition for first chair in band.

The clarinet is often referred to as the most challenging woodwind instrument. So, in lessons, we'll be sure to cover all the basics of tone production, breath support, musicality, and technique to ensure a solid foundation to build upon. I tend to teach these concepts through the use of various exercises and etude/method and duet books which are important for musical development and also fun!

Bill is a wonderful saxophone and clarinet teacher for my two sons. He's currently working with my older son to prepare for a clarinet audition. The process of preparing for the audition showed me some important qualities about Bill: 1) he goes above and beyond for his students (e.g. he recorded my son's solo piece in various tempos to help with practice); 2) he's flexible in making time for his students based on their needs; and 3) he's supportive and likable. My younger son, who took 4 saxophone lessons from Bill, mentioned Bill as one of the reasons for picking the instrument for band next year. I highly recommend Bill.

When we were searching for the right clarinet teacher, it was important to find not just a teacher, but a professional musician. Bill was the right guy for the job.

My daughter Lili had been playing for four years and Bill stepped in with techniques that really took her musicianship to the next level. He is patient, organized and, per Lili, "A dope dude."

Bill has helped Lili with music that she is working on for marching and concert band at school while creating customized warm ups specifically for her. During the pandemic he has been flexible with his schedule, generous with his time and has kept Lili motivated in her music and on track while her school bands have had a hard time playing together.

He is a pro who is communicative, responsive, and punctual for all of the lessons.

I highly recommend Bill as a teacher. He and his band put on a pretty good show as well!
Franck
Bill is the real deal! The reviews were dead on. Bill is a superstar instructor. He is energetic, engaging, and an amazing teacher who knows the instrument. You will make great progress. I highly recommend him!

"As a group Clarinet and Flute teacher with Youth Orchestra of St. Luke's, Thomas Giles created an engaging and inspiring music learning curriculum for his students. At each recital all of his students were able to introduce themselves, the piece they have learned, and a bit of history or commentary to go along. Throughout online learning Dr. Giles continued a supportive and creative environment, even through zoom, where each of his students composed and performed their own piece. If you are looking for your student to come away from lessons with a high level of ability and confidence on their instrument look no further than Dr. Giles! They will have the added bonus of learning important skills, such as public speaking and presenting. They may even take away some composition and arranging skills!"
