Claire makes sure that she answers any questions that I have. She goes at my pace. She's a great teacher! She is so experienced and patient.
Christy
Taking lessons on line is sometimes challenging; for instance, the instructor is talking but sometimes her words become garbled, like watching television and the picture and sound fades in and out.

I thought the teacher wanted me to just memorize the one section (the tune); she wasn't clear the first time (the first lesson) on memorizing the tune for playing All of the exercises without looking at the music notes. So, yesterday's lesson wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be.

I can help the student practice and learn their way around the cello in an efficient manner. This means that I will be helping with intonation and other technique by giving exercises for the challenging passages. Lessons will be customized according to the goal of the student. Sharing my knowledge in cello and music is a passion and a goal of mine and I would love to help reach your goals.

About Alexandra

I am currently a student at the Juilliard School in New York-- I completed my Bacherlor's degree and will be continuing my studies for my Master's degree. I began to play the cello at the age of 6. While a bit humbling Alex definitely helped me fix some glaring technical issues, particularly with the bow.

She helped my 12 year old daughter prepare the Saint Saens Cello concerto (1st movement) for a small performance. My daughter played more spiritedly after her session with Alex. She was especially helpful for a specific bow technique.

I love sharing my passion for music with all of my students - ages 5 through 72.

You can always recognize a skilled cellist. The music sounds smooth and graceful, the tone quality is lovely. Unskilled cellists just don’t sound the same. What’s the difference? Skill of course. The skill to play a very large instrument with relaxed hands and arms by using your core muscles to transfer your body weight through your arms and hands into the cello. Not every cello teacher knows how to teach that.

I believe that my unique combined musical and medical background makes me a better cello teacher. In addition to my graduate and undergraduate musical training and extensive musical experience, My knowledge of human anatomy and mechanics of how the body works can help you develop habits that will lead to the beautiful singing tone that’s makes the cello a favorite.

We will then build on those habits to develop good intonation, a lovely vibrato and a variety of bowing techniques ...

My granddaughter (high-school age) loved the singing lessons with JoAnn and we would highly recommend her. She took both in-home and on-line lessons from here.

I received about 10 lessons from JoAnn and feel very good with the results. I started playing guitar and singing in a small band and knew that I needed help. Joann educated me with many warm up lessons, a good start on reading music, and numerous exercises towards reaching pitch that will also save my vocal chords from harm. It's up to me to practice and use the available tools that JoAnn has introduced me to while I take a break from lessons while traveling. JoAnn is a professional singing teacher.

Tszto IS THE BEST CELLO TEACHER I have ever had because it is the first time someone explains me how to BREATH and ENJOY playing the cello, with a PERFECT TECHNIQUE and posture. He loves to play cello and he teaches with the same PASSION. He is super PATIENT with me and has the best way to correct me and explain me. He is an amazing cello player and really pedagogic. I had a german style teacher in the past and I stop playing cello because I didn't enjoy it and had pain and frustration. Tszto is helping me to reconnect with my cello, he corrects my posture (so it is a pleasant time with absolute no pain) and playing is turning to be a movement meditation for me, I love it now. I can feel and hear the progress on each lesson, thanks to him and to the homework (practice 15 mins, listen and reading). THANK YOU Tszto! After so many years, I am able to start again from cero and with so much passion. Thank you!

Tszto is an excellent cellist and teacher. My child has improved immensely in the few months she has been studying with him. He is diligent in making sure all aspects of playing the cello are in order from musicianship to technique. He is professional and a nice person.
Amy
Tszto was the best instructor ever! He was well-prepared, experienced, and flexible. He always brought all of his teaching materials relevant to me and made sure we cover what I needed to learn/reinforce. He was also clearly experienced with teaching a wide range of students and applied relevant teaching methods that worked best for me. I also appreciated how flexible he was in scheduling/rescheduling lessons whenever despite his own busy schedule and commitment. I only had a very positive experience learning from him and appreciated the fact that he demonstrated his passion for teaching in every lesson I had with him. Definitely recommend him to anyone wanting to learn/practice cello!

I have been playing viola for 17 years and teaching violin, viola, and cello for 8 years. I graduated from the University of West Florida in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance - Viola. My viola instructor was Dr. Leonid Yanovskiy, current and former concert master of the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra, Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, and many others.
While earning my degree, I also learned how to play violin and cello and am able to teach them up to an intermediate level.
My teaching ideology is that ANYONE can learn an instrument at any age. I have taught students as young as 4 and as old as 65! Many adult students of mine have expressed difficulty and even shame in trying to find a teacher for them who would take them on, simply because they were starting as an adult.
We don't have to train for the symphony (unless you want to!); your goals are my goals and I will help you reach them!

We have continued with on-line lessons now that he is studying in Boston. He helps me develop efficient practice habits since time is a precious commodity. He encourages healthy posture and technique so that I can enjoy playing for many years to come."

"Mr. Anderson has been a great influence on my life. As a cello teacher, Mr. Anderson has a wealth of knowledge ranging from the making of the cello to the history of composers to just random facts. Mr. Anderson has been my teacher from the 6th grade to my senior year. During those 6 years, he helped me grow into a great cello player that as a senior, I was able to play a solo with my school orchestra as a senior capstone. He, also, understood, that during this time, not only is his job to teach me cello but also to help and guide me into a better person. I have had many great and amazing teachers in high school and college and Mr. Anderson is among the best. I will never forget those 6 years and will fondly look back at these formative years."

"I began cello lessons with JoAnn almost a year ago. This was an instrument I had always wanted to learn, so I bought a good student cello and nervously scheduled my first half hour lesson. Her availability didn't initially work well with my plan to take lessons prior to coming in to my work, but a quick phone call and we worked out a very agreeable schedule.

Eleven months later, our weekly 60 minute lessons are very enjoyable and I am progressing well. JoAnn has been very accommodating with her schedule, last-minute cancellations, and patience. Sometimes I dread my next lesson because I've been too busy to practice or too fatigued from work, but an hour later I leave with a smile on my face and more confidence with my instrument. Hey, this is fun!

I would not hesitate to recommend JoAnn to anyone, especially a busy, working adult. She is a very skilled cellist and teacher, incorporating many lessons from other disciplines into this. While her teaching course has been different than I expected (lots of focus on slow playing and no vibrato yet), I believe my playing is much, much better because of it. In the beginning I had planned on a couple months of weekly lessons. Now a year later, I have no intention of stopping - way too much fun! Thank you JoAnn!"
