Private one-on-one saxophone instruction has been my primary vocation for nearly 30 years. I've also worked as a professional performing musician for over 35 years. Each lesson is tailored to the tastes and needs of the student, with traditional method books rarely used once the basics are under control. Instruction is based on a strong working knowledge of scales. The informed use of these scales leads to a heightened understanding of improvisation, ear training, and other practical aspects of music theory. Students are encouraged to choose from a variety of jazz standards and transcriptions, classical themes, and pop tunes that I’ve transcribed and engraved. Rudimentary instruction is also available for saxophonists wishing to learn flute and/or clarinet.

Melissa specializes in the Alfred Series for piano and My First Piano Adventure for young students. This approach focuses on ear training and reading music. Custom exercises and choice of material is based on the student's level and field of study. Lessons are scheduled at the student's convenience as per availability. Frequency and length of lessons is based on the students needs.

During the past two years, I have been an associate instructor in secondary piano, where I was entrusted with group classes and private students at IU. Since high school, I have worked with a lot of talented students from 3 to 30. During our lessons, we enjoy a lot of interactive activities and I really enjoy making progress together and growing together with my students.

Studied Classical Flute Performance at the Bob Cole Conservatory of music for 2 years (though my education was cut short because of COVID 19), and I passed the audition to the Manhattan School of Music. I am an experienced flute teacher of 3 years and have taught beginning to intermediate levels. I would love to pass down what I've learned from my many previous flute teachers. I can help you get into the music school of your dreams, or we can simply play the flute and I'll help you sound better. I love all types of music, and I am open to whatever you might want to learn. I teach fundamentals in the instrument and theory in numerous ways, that will fit the students needs. I am both classically trained (have studied with some of the top name solo bassists) and in jazz and improvisational music. I have a masters in music performance, and am equally trained in composition and harmony.
