Jessica is a virtuoso on the ukulele. She has the patience of a saint with less than adept students. Yet she is insistent, in a gentle way, about instilling correct form in her students' approach to the uke. In addition, she is a walking encyclopedia of songs that span the range from traditional to standards to current day favorites, and from country to r&B to rock and roll.

I have been teaching professionally for the last 10 years. I break down even the most complicated topics into small pieces that are easy to learn and understand. I have a structured approach with proven results and I treat each student individually and assess their goals to help guide the structure of the lesson. I received a Bachelor's in Music Education and Performance from Drake University in Flute and Piano. Currently pursuing a Master's in Music Therapy.
At Drake, I received a musical scholarship covering 80% of my tuition costs. I was also honored to sit as Principal Flute in both the Drake Symphony Orchestra and the Drake Wind Symphony, the top performing groups at the University.
I started to play the flute and piano in second grade, and my love and passion for music have only grown and matured since then.

*** Lesson Details *** Not only am I a trained singer, I am also an actor. I understand what it is to communicate and show emotion while singing. Before you can do this, you must also learn healthy singing technique. I will help blend the two.
The first half of each lesson will be dedicated to vocal exercises with the second half to songs I recommend or from your own repertoire. My recommendations may be from a different style of music than you are accustomed to, but I will be working towards helping you sing the style you want to sing.
Every voice is different. As a teacher I want to make sure that my students understand and are comfortable with what they are feeling and hearing. While I am an easy going person, I work very hard to help students find the right path to healthy vocal production.

Phyllis is the best singing teacher I have ever had. She is completely knowledgeable about technique and personalizes each class for her students. Phyllis is so sweet, and believes that there is a singing voice inside of all of us. Since I have started taking lessons with her, my range has expanded and not only that, I have gained new knowledge about sheet music that I had never heard before. I would highly recommend choosing her as your teacher.

Here's the why and how: As an educator, I've had experience teaching both young children and adults in many settings, whether it be in a classroom, small group lesson, or one-on-one. I pride myself on providing lessons that are uniquely individual and foster a students strengths while also building on their weaknesses. Here's a little more about me: In 2005 I made my operatic debut in Italy with Operafestival di Roma in their main stage production of Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro. While in Rome, I was also featured in Pergolesi's Stabat Mater. Over the years I've been featured as a soloist in other concert and oratorio works such as Villa-Lobos's Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5, Rutter's Requiem, and Mozart's Requiem.
Along with my classical training, I've taken on several roles in musicals such as, The King and I, Guys and Dolls, Oklahoma, and The Boyfriend. I am an honored NATS (National Association for the Teachers of Singing) competitor, Peabody Scholarship recipient, and Bland Music Scholarship recipient. Recently, I had the opportunity to work with the Richmond Philharmonic Orchestra on their spring and summer concert series and was asked to perform the National Anthem and God Bless America at Game 2 of the ALDS during one of the MLB's 2014 postseason games (Baltimore Orioles vs. Detroit Tigers). When I'm not singing, you may find me enjoying a run through the neighborhood, or enjoying some time with my cat CJ.
I earned both my undergraduate and graduate degrees form the Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University.

I needed last minute coaching for an upcoming audition and was feeling unprepared and frazzled. Chelsea easily knew what I needed. She made recommendations, was wonderfully engaging, and her insight and ear highlighted some important tweaks that I would have overlooked in my haste to prepare. I am taking online lessons with Nick, and he has helped me to understand what it is to be a musician. Before I started taking lessons, if someone asked me to play something, I was not able to do it without getting a sheet of music out and struggling A LOT. Now I am starting to be able to play the music I want to play, both by ear and reading. He teaches much more than just playing band music. I wish I could take more than a few lessons this summer.

I have a 8 year old daughter and 10 year old son both have been learning Piano for the last 2 years. Nick takes a holistic approach in teaching piano as opposed to sticking with the book. It includes creating a passion about listening different music, learning scales and chords outside of the book. I have recommended Nick to all my friends
Online Performance Class is a way to get performance experience every week by playing for many other students who are learning to be musicians. The range is from absolute beginner through early professional so it is also a chance to get inspired or to find a group to support and follow your career. There is also a class set up for Master Class. This class is just a performance class. No comments will be made to allow for students to get over stage fright easily.
Alexandra has been teaching harp and piano around the country for eighteen years through her personal harp studio and the Salvi Showroom in Southern California. She has also worked as a sectional coach for the Orange County Youth Symphony, Asia America Youth Symphony, and Palos Verdes Regional Symphony Orchestra. Apart from harp activities, Alexandra also enjoys teaching middle school, teaching piano, coaching rowing, participation in sports activities, and writing articles for various journals including: The American Harp Journal, Chicago Health Magazine, and Atlanta Health Magazine. She also enjoys being a board member on the DePauw University Alumni Board and she enjoys working on music startup companies.
*** Lesson Details ***
As a HARP teacher, all of my students play scales, arpeggios, and technical exercises in their lessons. I believe having a strong technical base is the foundation for every part of playing and you can't learn without it. I will set the repertoire for students according to their technical progress and although I may take into consideration a student's desires to learn a certain piece, there has to be time and they have to be ready for it. I have both short term and long term goals for each student that involve theory, technical ability, and repertoire: fun, orchestral and solo. Adult students still have to learn technique, it makes things much more fun and easy six months later, I promise! Beginning students will learn how to read notes, understand basic theory, and technique in a short amount of time, so don't be scared if you have never had a music lesson before.
I require all students make at least half an hour a day commitment to practice. I teach mostly the Grandjany method of harp technique, however, I also use Salzedo and Renie methods at times to fit a particular students' build and unique physical attributes as well as what the piece requires. I have studied all techniques throughout my education and I find them all beneficial for different reasons. I do, however, believe everyone is built differently and the technique should help the harpist play and not hinder them from achieving their goals. Everyone learns at a different speed, but as a brand new musician, after six months practicing regularly, you should be able to read music fluently, understand basic theory concepts, be able to play with both hands and four fingers on each hand, play all of the basic scales and arpeggios musically and be able to play at least one piece memorized. Curriculum is based on the student's technical ability and issues and is individually created – if you learn slower than someone else, don’t worry about your pace. In the end, lessons are about you personally and not someone else.
As a PIANO teacher, I want students to learn about music and not just the piano. Students will learn basic music theory and basic scales as a part of their lessons. They will also occasionally choose a song of their choosing to work on chords. I do promote note reading and theory, so I am not the right teacher for students who don't want to invest time in learning the basics. These basics are the building blocks of all music and can be used for any instrument the student chooses to learn in the future.
*** Studio Equipment *** I have harps and a piano at my studio, so you do not need to bring your harp to lessons. If you don't own a harp, you can rent one for around $45/month from several sources.
*** Specialties *** HARP - Grandjany Technique with an incorporation of Salzedo and French school depending on the player's body type and technical difficulties. I make use of the ABRSM as well as local, national, and international competitions depending on the student's level of commitment.
PIANO - I teach basic piano for fun through an Intermediate level. Although some students choose to take CM and ABRSM exams, I do not push them. I want students to enjoy piano and music lessons.
Alexandra has met all my expectations. She is very patient. I feel like we are moving along at a good pace. I had zero musical experience and after only 3 lessons can read basic sheet music and actually have music come out of the piano!! I am enjoying the whole process.
