I can help beginners get started or coach advanced students who are preparing for auditions.
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.
Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.
He is a current adjudicator with Drum Corps International and Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.
Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.
*** Lesson Details *** My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.
I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.
For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.
My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.
Thomas is honestly an amazing musician and teacher. He was really patient with me. Despite having to deal with major timezone differences (as I live in Myanmar), he took the time to figure it out. Also, he helped me figure out the stuff it took me months to figure out. He also really knows what he's doing. I learned so much in that hour of practice. 10/10 would recommend him.

Hello everyone! Please have a look around my profile and feel free to contact me. I have taught privately since 2009 and joined takelessons.com in 2014.
I strongly feel each student needs lesson goals tailored to what he or she wants to take away from music. Getting ready for a college performance degree, making it to state solo contest, surviving band music, or simply discovering the huge scope of music available to us these days are each worthy goals, but require different preparation. I will work with you to figure out where your interests lie and focus on those, first and foremost!
My education includes bachelor's and master's degrees in trumpet performance from Lawrence University and UW-Milwaukee, respectively. In addition to my private studio, I maintain an active teaching schedule within the Penn Harris Madison school distri
ct, as well as freelance throughout Michiana.
Thanks for your time, and happy practicing!
*** Lesson Equipment *** I can provide: curated exercises and method samples to address specific playing needs.
Students should provide: instrument/mouthpiece, any other music they would like to play
*** Specialties *** I have spent most of my playing time on classical (orchestral, chamber, and solo music), but also welcome students interested in jazz up to an intermediate level, especially if they have an interest in playing lead trumpet.
excellent instruction on a difficult horn many years of practical skill playing as well as teaching horn.
Teaching is a passion. All my students love what they learn and their progress is my number one concern. I have been teaching since the age of 17. I began studying at the age of 9 with a top trumpet professional, David Frick. Man what an experience. If you want to make excelllent progress look no further.
Great instruction-but had an issue with scheduling, so lesson was delayed.

Good first lesson. My son is excited for the next.
August 19, 2019
My son has been playing for a year, but didn't have enough one on one interaction to work through the things he had difficulty with. Lessons with Pasquale have been good and he can focus on little things that can make a big difference. Definitely recommend.
I teach absolute beginners, intermediate and advanced students. I work with them on technique, strong fundamentals, sound production and the repertoire of band and orchestra music.

As others have stated Karl is very patient with a new learner. His explanations are thorough and understandable. I make progress from lesson to lesson (for the most part) and look forward to the next lesson.
A graduate of the famous Curtis Institute of Music, Lori A has played all over the world. She has played with greats such as Frank Sinatra, Diana Ross, Pavarotti, and Leonard Bernstein. After being invited to the White House, she performed for President Reagan. Lessons incorporate fun songs plus technique.
Hello! Thank you for your interest in my profile. I teach piano, horn, trumpet, theory & ear training, and coach ensembles, performance class as well as music and movement class for ages 0-6, and drum circle and cultural literacy for adults.
I am a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, and I've played all over the world. I've played with soloists from Frank Sinatra to Diana Ross, Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons to Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo. I still perform and consider this important to my teaching as well.
Some major accomplishments include an invitation to the White House, over 50 solo performances with orchestras starting with The Philadelphia Orchestra at age 15, a performance for the Princess of Thailand, and early television performances starting at age 7. In order to accomplish these things, I had great teach
ers, a regimen of discipline and practice, an expectation I have of my students, and all the rewards that have lasted a lifetime. Properly taught music lessons are life lessons and are never a waste. I incorporate fun into the lessons as discipline and fun must be combined for success and enjoyment at all levels.
My teachers included Eleanor Sokoloff, Susan Starr, and Dale Clevenger.
I've taught for 29 years, and have a proven track record of success. I've taught at Universities including The University of Notre Dame, The University of Tennessee, The Chinese University and the Academy of Performing Arts in Hong Kong. I adore my students. Each one needs to be assessed and taught differently. Something you cannot learn in school, only through years of experience!
I teach in Avondale-Kennet Square-Chaddsford, Hockessin-Wilmington,, DE, Newark, DE, with possibility of travel 10 minutes away. Please note: If you want in home piano lessons, you need a working instrument, and must maintain the tuning.
While I had previous experience playing an instrument MANY years ago, I never played the piano and started taking lessons with Lori as an adult. In almost no time I was able to read the bass clef (left hand) notes and within the year I had learned all the scales (majors and relative minors - both harmonic and melodic) and arpeggios (root and inversions). I was also playing "real" pieces of music.
Lori stresses good technique and good practice habits and can suggest more than one way to master a concept. She also makes learning the piano fun.

She taught me some important techniques on the piano.
Personalized and methodical instruction for musical progress on their instrument.
My name is Chris, and I have been playing trumpet for over twenty years. I grew up in the TX public schools and was a two time TMEA All-State Musician. I hold three degrees in music from accredited universities: DMA at UGA, MM at UT-Austin, BM at NDSU. I enjoy teaching and helping others, and have a patient, kind approach to working with people. Music is a wonderful gift that we can all share in, and I am happy to pass on what I have gained from my musical experiences.
"My daughter started French horn lessons a few weeks ago with James, and not only is he fantastic with her, she really enjoys it and is already making prog
"James teaches our son (13) the horn. He is a true professional in his art and does a fantastic job in teaching it to others. He is knowledgeable in his
craft and very patient in laying a solid foundation from which to build on. Our son learned more in his first 30 minute class about how to work on areas that were frustrating him, than the 1.5 years lost in band class. Thank you James for getting our son to start playing with confidence, and best yet enjoying his horn again!"
"Miss Jennifer has been teaching my daughter french horn durning rhe last school year. She is very patient, goes over the music my needed to learn for UIL
and Solo. She takes the time to teach my daughter the piece she needed to learn for school, did some slight reading and work on her tone to get her ready for UIL and Solo. My daughter school band made 1s and my daughter made a 1 in solo. Miss Jennifer is a great brass teacher."
"Olivier has without a doubt helped my daughter improve in ways that I (as a former French Horn player) could not. He is patient and pleasant as well as in
telligent. Most importantly he has given my daughter the necessary tools she's needed. He doesn't just say "play higher" or "do it again". Instead he tells her exactly HOW she can get better and exactly WHAT techniques she needs to do to improve. I have seen a noticeable difference in 8 lessons and look forward her future success with Olivier."
"Dr. Merkel is the first tutor we have come across that is honest, forthright and actually TEACHES my daughter what she needs to know to reach her goals. H
e doesn't just tell her what he thinks she wants to hear to get her to come back next week. He's the real deal. He is a gentle corrector while being stern enough to instill what is necessary to succeed. The difference in her after four weeks with the Doc is amazing when compared to the last EIGHT YEARS she has been playing without his tutelage. We cannot say enough about him at this point and are thankful to have found such an expert!"
"I received horn lessons from Bethany when I was a music minor at UCSB. Bethany was a wonderful teacher and helped me prepare for various recitals. She was
always incredibly patient and had a knack for explaining complex techniques in an understandable and clear way. She broke everything down in a way that really worked for me and helped me improve. I always left her lessons knowing how to tackle my practice sessions in an efficient way."
"Fantastic instructor. There are not sufficient superlatives to describe his musicianship, patience, dedication, commitment, and ability to share his enthu
siasm for this wonderful instrument. I doubted the efficacy of online lessons, but was sold from the start, all due to Oliver! I cannot recommend him enough!"
"Today lesson really helped my daughter Alessandra learn the different breathing techniques that is needed to play the French Horn. Victoria seem very know
ledgeable and my daughter is really excited for her next lesson. Thanks Victoria."
"Bethany is a wonderful instructor! She is consistently caring and insightful, and has appropriately high expectations--which push her students to improve.
She was able to help me wisely choose music that would be both challenging and rewarding. I highly recommend her, and I had a great experience taking lessons from her."
