Reegan (13) loved her first lesson with Amy and is looking forward to learning more with new material! She had an excellent experience.

Amy was cheerful, yet efficient. In just half an hour, she taught my daughter the parts of the cello, how to properly position the instrument and her fingers, and plucking techniques. It was impressive that all of this was done remotely on a screen. Her pre- and post-lesson communication was also top notch. My daughter is very excited to keep learning from Amy!
Erin
Amy is a fantastic teacher with a clear and concise way of laying out lessons. I've played piano for nearly three decades, but have no base in cello, and she uses that common language to help me understand this new instrument. As a musician, teacher, and student I'm very impressed and pleased with her instruction!

Mr. Anderson has been a great influence on my life. As a cello teacher, Mr. Anderson has a wealth of knowledge ranging from the making of the cello to the history of composers to just random facts. Mr. Anderson has been my teacher from the 6th grade to my senior year. During those 6 years, he helped me grow into a great cello player that as a senior, I was able to play a solo with my school orchestra as a senior capstone. He, also, understood, that during this time, not only is his job to teach me cello but also to help and guide me into a better person. I have had many great and amazing teachers in high school and college and Mr. Anderson is among the best. I will never forget those 6 years and will fondly look back at these formative years.

Dwight Anderson was a fabulous cello teacher for my son from preschool through high school. He was, in fact, the best music teacher we ever had for either of my children - through all of their piano, violin and cello instruction. He was consistent and nurturing, able to push the boundaries of expectation, and able to inspire. Although he only taught my son, he influenced my daughter as well by encouraging them to both participate in the GDYO. He was masterful in choosing certain pieces of work that inspired my son to practice and to perform. Even though he certainly assigned scales and etudes, he always allowed him at least one piece of his choosing that gave him such a sense of accomplishment. For example, my son learned to play the prelude of the Bach suite in G even before he started the 1st grade. That is still his favorite piece! And, starting around 7th or 8th grade, he let his pick which "big work" they would tackle for the following year. We went through the Lalo cello concerto, Faure's Elegie, the Saint-Saens concerto, Popper's Hungarian Rhapsody, Dvorak's Rondo, and finally, "The Dvorak", for his senior project in high school. Even though my son didn't always learn all the movements of the concerto or learn it to perfection, Dwight's partnership with my son in picking these pieces gave him such a love of playing the cello! What a wonder and a gift!
In the years since high school, Dwight has kept up with my son, even though he chose a non-music career path and a life in the north east. We will be forever grateful for Dwight and the influence he has had on my son in particular, and, for his influence on the whole family for deepening our appreciation of beautiful music. Thank you, Dwight!

Mr. Anderson was very patient with my son who was just starting on the cello. He made sure that my son had a strong foundation before learning harder pieces, and always came to the lessons with a bright smile.

I've had two lessons so far and Alison seems like a really wonderful teacher. She is very attentive to detail and good at giving advice and feedback. I haven't taken music lessons in a long time, and I've never played a string instrument before, but already with Alison's expert instruction, I feel like I'm really learning. I highly recommend her!

My high school daughter has received trumpet lessons from Jonathan for over a year. He is an excellent instructor, very knowledgeable and patient. As a school teacher, he knows how to work with kids in a way that gives him an advantage over a non-teacher performing artist. We've done lessons both in person and online. I'd highly recommend Jonathan to any parent looking to have their middle school/high school student take private lessons.

"I'm very impressed by how Mr. Oshagan can get an almost 3 year old to learn a technique simply by playing a game. He truly understands that children learn best by play. He is able to successfully break down a concept, by playing a game that results in the technique he's teaching, getting my child to focus and engage. My now 3 year old loves and respects Mr. Oshagan, and is very excited when it comes time for his cello lesson. Mr. Oshagan is also a wealth of information. He teaches the parent how to teach the student, so that practice times are as stress free as possible, but effective and productive.
I was specifically looking for a teacher that specialized in teaching cello to small children, and I am so happy we found Mr. Oshagan."

"As an adult beginner, I was very intimidated and fearful when I first took on cello lessons. My first online lesson with Megan was my first cello lesson EVER. She is a patient teacher who delivers high quality lessons. At the end of every lesson, I knew I received more than my money's worth. What really impressed me is that Megan really works to meet me where I'm at, not the other way around. She helps me with tips and techniques to support and challenge me as a student. I would recommend Megan for cello students out there! Beginners, you're in good hands!"

"Lukas has been a peer/colleague of mine for the past 6 years. As a conservatory student myself, I have often turned to Lukas for insight and help on various struggles I face as a cellist. As a cellist and technician, he has profound understanding of the fundamental concepts of playing the cello, whilst maintaining the ability to break things down in a simple and concise fashion. As an artist and musician, he constantly challenges himself for deeper expertise in so many facets of the art – both technically and musically.

Lukas has a clever sense of humor, is very bright, and void of arrogance (which I experienced so many times from teachers when I started out). I am certain he would provide a student of any level and goal with an adaptive, forward-focused approach. I cannot thank Lukas enough for the amount he has helped me, and I am certain he can do the same for so many others"

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
