A skilled interpreter of Baroque literature as well, Farobag continues in his capacity as Artistic Advisor to the Baroque Masterplayers, a virtuoso ensemble that concatenates period performance techniques with modern instruments thus creating a unique voice within the realm of 17th and 18th- century repertoire.
A double graduate of the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester, Farobag studied under Anastasia Jempelis, a pioneer of Suzuki violin pedagogy in the United States. In addition to the Suzuki curriculum, he is also associated with the Royal Conservatory Music Devel
opment Program that sets a national standard of musical achievement in various fields.
Befitting his penchant for encouraging artistic interest amongst younger members of his community, Farobag is also the principal conductor of the Zoroastrian Symphony Orchestra that offers a unique mixture of young and seasoned professionals sitting side-by-side in a strictly professional setting. Since the year 2000, the ZSO has staged highly successful performances at various venues in Houston, Chicago, and Toronto. A New Year's eve performance in Los Angeles is scheduled for 2014.

*** Lesson Details *** Sheer technique is necessary but insufficient to play an instrument well. Aural skills, that include the study of functional tonality and voice-leading are important factors that impart musicality. This is of great import if the prospective musician wants the audience to truly enjoy his or her performance !
Whether it be the 3 Rs or preparation in the performing arts, a remarkable instructor must go well beyond the subject matter at hand and help imbue the student with a spirit of wonder that, in due time, will foster enthusiasm necessary for excellence.
A child emulates and learns to communicate in his or her mother-tongue through a supporting and nurturing environment. Likewise, a student needs to be sufficiently motivated to embrace learning in a familiar supportive manner.
*** Studio Equipment *** The In-Studio lesson take place in the living room. Driveway parking. No pets.
*** Travel Equipment *** None; I do expect a reasonably good piano / keyboard at a student's home.
*** Specialties *** Traditional and Suzuki-based education. Performance and musicality training is open to all instrumentalists.
*** CD's*** Classical Energy, Triton Sound, TS 8501 Salut D'Amour, Triton Sound, TS 9014 Epiphanies1, The Halford Company
I've been teaching math for 7 years and my students have gone on to develop a stronger connection with the subject after their time with me. Within the first few sessions, you'll be able to fully understand the concept you're working on and as time goes on you'll develop skills for problem solving that make all topic easier. I specialize in 5th through 12th grade, and am familiar with several curriculums and textbooks, including Illustrative Math, CME, Pearson EnVision, and Bridges. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!
MUSIC LESSONS: Whether I am playing salsa, solo classical piano, in a jazz ensemble, or a concert band, I am ALWAYS having fun doing what I love, and I want you to have the same experience. After moving to Philadelphia ten years ago to study at Temple University, where I received my Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance, I have had many great opportunities to play all types of music with all types of people. While my passions are in jazz music, composing, and arranging, my varied experience helps me pass on the fundamentals necessary to becoming a great musician while also adapting to your goals, needs, and musical preferences.
*** Lesson Details *** I aim for students to leave each lesson eager to practice and explore, and to come back with questions and stories of their progress. To that end, I work hard to tailor lessons to every
individuals interests and goals. Sometimes this means arranging, transcribing a recording, or even composing something new for my students. Additionally, in each lesson, I balance technical skills, ear training, and music theory to assure that each student walks away a complete musician, all structured around your musical goals.
*** Travel Equipment *** The student must provide their own instrument and assigned method books. I will provide a music stand if necessary, and other useful instructional tools (metronome, tuner, etc.)
*** Home Studio *** I offer lessons in my home located within walking distance of Broad Street in South Philadelphia, near the Tasker-Morris subway stop. I am equipped with a well-playing upright piano and plenty of space for musical activities. There is ample street parking in the area during the afternoon and early evening, and our living room is available to parents while students take their lesson. Students who travel to me for lessons gain all the benefits of performing on a piano, rather than an electric keyboard, and have access to many more resources that I am able to offer from my home, such as recordings and method books.
*** Specialties *** I specialize teaching "late starters" (teens and adults new to piano) fundamentals in music in a fun and exciting way that will have you playing the music you love quickly.
For brass instruments, I am able to help brand new beginners build up their sound and facility through simple exercises that will have them astounded by their progress.
MATH: I use my years of classroom teaching and Master's degree in math education as experience to help guide you to the success you are seeking. I am able to tailor sessions to your specific needs with a few key points in mind:
- helping you catch-up, while also preparing you for what is ahead - balancing practice with conceptual knowledge and application - using research-based techniques to maximize your learning
I am a patient teacher, and well-equipped to explain tough topics in multiple ways. I like to use visuals and objects with simple examples to help my students really understand a concept before we try harder material. Total understanding and confidence is my goal for you.
My personal interests in mathematics are problem solving, puzzles, and combinatorics (think "How many different outfits can I make with all the clothes in my closet?"). If you're looking for an addicting puzzle to try, I suggest KenKen to all my students.
If you've ever struggled with Algebra and wished you had someone that could explain it to you in a way that you could understand, I may be the teacher for you. My students learn because I adapt the lessons to their own personal experiences and interests. When students can make math personal, they have a much better chance of excelling at it.
I am an easy going, knowledgable and creative teacher. I strive to put the students and their personal needs first. I'm very aware that each student/person learns differently and I incorporate various strategies of learning into my lessons. There is a lot of humor and dialogue with my lessons, allowing my students the freedom to be themselves while playing.
As a school teacher, I have lots of experience in building student confidence and knowledge. If you aren't confident then you aren't progressing!
I like to record my students at different intervals of their education so they can hear the progress! I email a lesson recap after every lesson so that the student can see what we learned that week, including any notes/attachments for the student to review.
I also encourage my students to text/email/ or call with any questi
ons/concerns between lessons. This gives my students the ability to get through a challenging or difficult concept/strategy when its happening and not have to wait till the next lesson.
Rob is an amazing teacher! My 6 year old daughter is very energetic, and has challenges staying on task. Rob makes every class fun, and adjusts his style or plan to keep her interested in the guitar lesson. I feel like she has learned a lot in a short period of time. I highly recommend Rob!

No show. I was set up and ready 10 minutes ahead of time, and 15 minutes after we were supposed to start I gave up. No call. no email, nothing. I called him at 6:20 to be told his day was screwed up by a funeral, and I told him my dog ate my homework. Pathetic. I knew I had a lesson, he must have known he had one to give, and no notification whatsoever. I don't do business like this.

Aleksander helped my son prepare for Regents Exams in Math (Algebra, Geometry and Trig.), English and SAT. The results were spectacular. He graduated high school with 98% average in Math and English. He scored above 1500 on the SAT and was accepted into a school of his choice with a scholarship. Aleksander guided us through with college application process, helped fill out FAFSA, and helped my son select a major he is happy with. Great instructor! Great person!

Alex helped me with my College English/Writing and Accounting courses. His lessons were vigorous, but fun and very engaging. Thanks to him my grade went from C to A.
I was so happy with the progress that I asked him to tutor my niece in high school math. Again, he surpassed all expectations. She ended up having one of the highest grades in her class.
My lessons are very easy to understand. Once the strategies are taught then most of the lesson consists of the student doing practice work with me.

Algebra is mostly using the times table...also fractions and declinations. When working with numbers usually algebra uses "X" or "Y" to figure out the answer to a problem without making the solution obvious..Yes..sounds like a challenge right?..but I must say mathematicians like you are ready & set to learn!!

Anthony is a thorough professional and devoted tutor. My teenage daughter, who is homeschooling and takes 1 or 2 intensive courses at a time, was able to swiftly move through the geometry material with the excellent instruction and guidance of Anthony as her teacher.

I have referred several students to Anthony in subjects ranging from AP Physics to ACT prep. He is highly skilled in the subjects he teaches. Just as importantly he is very empathic, and kids enjoy working with him. He is kind with them while still being able to keep them focused and on track.
"My daughter described her lesson as excellent, thorough and fun. She is looking forward to future lessons. I could not be more pleased."
"She's been great so far and has gone out of her way to make sure the lessons happen!"
"Relaxed but perceptive and capable
Having read Christopher's bio, I sensed that there was something special about him, and that he was the right one fo
r our son who has some learning challenges, particularly in the area of Math. I believe it is very important a tutor connects not only on an academic level but also where there can be some light hearted conversation. Christopher arrived punctually for our first meeting and his assessment of our son. In advance of that meeting I had explained to Christopher what the challenges are and what our collective objectives are. As soon as I saw him, he appeared to relaxed but confident. After an initial introduction, I stepped away to let Christopher and our son become acquainted and he immediately set about establishing some common ground which happened to be a particular sport. No more than Christopher, our son is also very perceptive and despite the fact that he initially resisted the idea of any tutor, his words after this first meeting were "I can work with him"! Its obviously early days yet, but so far so good!"
"He was very attentive in algebra I needed tutoring in. I would highly recommend him as a tutor."
"We are very thankful to our instructor. She makes sure the subject is understood and not memorized. One could see that she has passion for the class and i
t looks like that passion is contagious."
"Thank you Rosita.
You helped my son to understand his math lesson.
"We are very fortunate to have found Colin to tutor our son, who is 14, in algebra. He was struggling in his class and with his confidence in math, but aft
er his first few sessions with Colin his quiz and test scores in algebra came up. Not only that, but he even teaches his classmates the techniques he has learned with Colin. Very impressed with our son’s progress. Thank you Colin!"
"professional, punctual, positive, makes lesson fun
Jessie, tutors my 14 y/o daughter in algebra for more than a year now. She is professional, punctual,
very positive and makes algebra fun (if that's possible). She reinforces what Grace has done well and reviews how she can do better. I highly recommend Jessie!"
"I cannot believe that I actually like math! thanks for these awesome classes!"
Struggling to understand your algebra assignments? Breaking problems down into manageable steps can make them much easier to handle. Here, Tucson teacher Blake C. shares his simple, 3-step process for solving mixture problems with ease:
A source of endless confusion for many algebra students is the dreaded mixture problem. These are the problems that ask you things like, if you mix 10lbs of peanuts costing $1.50 per pound with cashews costing $2.50 per pound, how many pounds of cashews wo …
