Matt has been awesome working with my sixteen year-old daughter and her algebra. She was hesitant about Skype and tutoring online but it has been so great working with Matt. I did 2 sessions with Matt while I was home in preparation for my GMAT, which is in 3 weeks. We focused on the quantitative section, which was the weak spot on my first test. Matt’s familiarity with the GMAT (both the Verbal and Math section) was evident in the first few minutes of sitting down with him. Probably even more important, given my time constraint, was Matt’s ability to quickly identify my specific problem areas (integer / geometric properties & time management on data sufficiency problems) and come up with a game plan to improve them. Matt’s teaching style helped solidify key concepts by having me walk him through my thinking on problems and correcting me only when I veered off path. This approach worked for me. After the second session, I took a practice test and my math score improved substantially. I would recommend Matt to anyone who’s serious about boosting their GMAT score.

Tom was excellent! We explored many pertinent topics. He is very flexible in allowing you to delve into your interests in that he has a broad knowledge base and promotes creativity and open thinking. The lesson flows very well. He helped me to find fitting goals. I'm looking forward to more lessons with Tom!

I have been an ESL teacher for a year now, both locally and online. I received my TESOL certification in February 2019. Currently, I tutor Chinese students through DaDa. While both the certificate and experience is with children up to 17, I can work equally well with adults. I have gotten much positive feedback that I would be glad to share!

I have a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Massachusetts. My BA was in English from Smith College with a minor in Government. I am certified in TESOL.

I have been tutoring for about a year now with Varsity Tutors. I have taught reading and comprehension. I do math up to third grade. I also have experience in prepping students for the English evidence-based reading and writing part of the SAT/ACT. With older students, I work best in English and Social Science.

Since I began tutoring, I have explored many educational resources available online to help students. As part of my continuing education, I am working on how to best use them in my lessons. I have subscribed to at least 16 different web sites (ex. Quizlet, Readworks, etc.) at my own expense to continually improve my skills. I go over and above to find materials that helps my students. I am also a member of the National Tutoring Association.
I try to make difficult subjects accessible, easier to understand, and even fun. I do my best to always be positive, patient and supportive of the student’s challenges and efforts. This is the background of my teaching style.
I would work with the student’s existing curriculum and help them with their assignments. I strive to go beyond with related subject matter to further expand their knowledge, ease, and grasp. I design lesson plans tailored to their specific needs and likes – everyone is different. I strongly believe that teaching is best-done one-on-one and facilitated by conversation - where the student and I work as a team. I have worked with students in all levels – elementary, middle and high school.

While a student at Texas Woman's University, I also pursued my TEFL certification. A part of my requirement was student teaching or tutoring. I tutored international students Ghana, India, South Korea, Taiwan, and Mexico. As a teacher, I teach English online to students in China, as well as teaching cooking to students in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. When I was a student at TWU, I participated in the Education Abroad Program and studied German in Austria and Germany. My background in vocal training and linguistics gives me the skills and knowledge to help my students accomplish the English oral, reading, and writing skills that they need to advance in school or career. I understand the needs of students to speak conversationally or professionally in the language of the country they are in.
I love helping students to learn to speak clearly
in order to succeed in oral presentations and to be understood in everyday communication. I enjoy seeing their faces light up when they accomplish a task or lesson by using what they studied and practiced with me.
