The ACT English Test consists of 75 questions to be answered in 45 minutes. The questions are multiple choice, and they measure an individual's knowledge of English grammar, usage, sentence construction, punctuation, organization, and style. I like to use the most recent guidelines available when tutoring my students for test preparation, so I will be using the Princeton Review's Crash Course for the ACT, 3rd Edition, as a main source for studies and question and answer sessions with my students. I supplement this with AP English exercises to ensure that my students have a solid base from which to answer test questions. I alternate between verbal and written exercises to keep the process interesting and relevant.
As a child I watched from the doorway as my older sister took her piano lessons. From that experience I taught myself to play the piano. My formal training came in college where I received my BA in Applied Music in piano and voice. I studied classical music and opera from a visiting professor from Peabody Conservatory, Baltimore MD. I graduated with honors and gave my Town Hall performance in the Spring of my Senior year. I had a passionate desire to be involved in music, to hear it and to perform it. I spent several years singing with the San Diego Opera Company, performing lead roles in Musical Theater and soloing in concerts from Monterrey to San Diego, CA. While still a student in college, I taught piano to children from the local community, so I have accumulated decades of teaching experience. Nothing brings me greater pleasure than
to see individuals "blossom" into their creative selves. Whether it is for a student's own enjoyment, audition preparation, recital performance or ongoing piano or voice development, I am committed to engaging you in an experience of learning and fun. It may be the biggest thrill of your lifetime!
*** Lesson Details *** I love to have fun. For me, learning is a great source of fun. My goal is to make the process of your learning music fun while effective. I do have high standards for participation. I do not ask anything of you that I haven't done myself. I know, from many years of experience in performing and teaching, what it takes to make progress in a learning curve, Are you excited? Are you dedicated? Are you willing to jump in and get busy? I will give you the foundation of theory and technique to support your performance. I will expand your understanding and appreciation for music in its many styles and formats. No every other week or schedule as you go lessons, please.
*** Studio Equipment *** Living room - Steinway piano, cathedral ceilings ... good acoustics.
*** Travel Equipment *** Must have piano or quality keyboard. I definitely prefer piano.
*** Specialties *** I was trained classically in both piano and voice, but spent many years in musical theater and singing in supper clubs, as well. I am capable of teaching most styles of piano and voice except rock and rap.
I have never sung in my life.
Patricia’s patience is very much a testament to her

i recently came out of an audition and I sang my musical pieces better than I've ever done them before! The auditioner sat me down at the end and said he loves my voice. He said, based on how much he liked my pieces and how well I did that he would like to extend an early invitation for callbacks for the program! I really have Patricia to thank for that. She has helped me improve my voice by leaps and bounds in the time that i have been working with her and its amazing to get such immediate and rewarding results. I CAN NOT THANK PATRICIA ENOUGH! SHE COULD NOT HAVE PREPARED ME ANY BETTER AND IM SO GRATEFUL THAT I GET TO WORK WITH HER!!
Music Director of the Chicago Philharmonia Orchestra since 1985, Farobag has also served as Managing Director of the University of Chicago Performing Artists Series from 1989 through 2002 and principal conductor of its resident professional ensembles. A skilled interpreter of Baroque literature as well, Farobag continues in his capacity as Artistic Advisor to the Baroque Masterplayers, a virtuoso ensemble that concatenates period performance techniques with modern instruments thus creating a unique voice within the realm of 17th and 18th- century repertoire.
A double graduate of the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester, Farobag studied under Anastasia Jempelis, a pioneer of Suzuki violin pedagogy in the United States. In addition to the Suzuki curriculum, he is also associated with the Royal Conservatory Music Devel
opment Program that sets a national standard of musical achievement in various fields.
Befitting his penchant for encouraging artistic interest amongst younger members of his community, Farobag is also the principal conductor of the Zoroastrian Symphony Orchestra that offers a unique mixture of young and seasoned professionals sitting side-by-side in a strictly professional setting. Since the year 2000, the ZSO has staged highly successful performances at various venues in Houston, Chicago, and Toronto. A New Year's eve performance in Los Angeles is scheduled for 2014.
Having also taken graduate-level coursework in educational psychology, mathematics, and philosophy at the University of Chicago, Farobag offers tutelage in various areas of elementary and secondary education as well as in SAT, ACT and GRE test preparation.
Additionally, as a certified Reiki Master, therapeutic and/or educational sessions are also extended to those who may be inclined to alternative healing techniques.
*** Lesson Details *** Sheer technique is necessary but insufficient to play an instrument well. Aural skills, that include the study of functional tonality and voice-leading are important factors that impart musicality. This is of great import if the prospective musician wants the audience to truly enjoy his or her performance !
Whether it be the 3 Rs or preparation in the performing arts, a remarkable instructor must go well beyond the subject matter at hand and help imbue the student with a spirit of wonder that, in due time, will foster enthusiasm necessary for excellence.
A child emulates and learns to communicate in his or her mother-tongue through a supporting and nurturing environment. Likewise, a student needs to be sufficiently motivated to embrace learning in a familiar supportive manner.
*** Studio Equipment *** The In-Studio lesson take place in the living room. Driveway parking. No pets.
*** Travel Equipment *** None; I do expect a reasonably good piano / keyboard at a student's home.
*** Specialties *** Traditional and Suzuki-based education. Performance and musicality training is open to all instrumentalists.
*** CD's*** Classical Energy, Triton Sound, TS 8501 Salut D'Amour, Triton Sound, TS 9014 Epiphanies1, The Halford Company
I've helped students with the ACT for a number of years. There is a mindset to learning the "tricks" of this standardized test. I want students to recognize the patterns to the test questions so that they can know exactly how to answer them.
I have 11 years previous tutoring experience in a variety of subjects such as Algebra I, Algebra II English, SAT, ACT, MS Excel, MS Access, MS word, GRE, Geometry.
Overall, I have been very academically successful myself. I enjoy helping students understand difficult concepts. I am also very patient with my students and won't give up until we've accomplished our goals.
I've achieved such items as valedictorian of my high school class, National Honor Society, Who's Who Among American High School Students, Distinguished Graduate Student of the Year at Robert Morris University, Alpha Chi National Honor Society, Alpha Iota Mu Honor Society, National Dean's List, and a 4.0 GPA at the Bachelor's and Master's level.
Great! I learned quite a bit and my instructor is fabulous!

I really hit JACKPOT with Joanne. Joanne is very technical, yet explains things in a manner to make you understand. I had a great first session with Joanne and look forward to many more, as my budget permits. She helped me with exactly what I needed help with and taught me a few things in the meantime.

My name is Aalok and I am a full time professional tutor. I can help students who are struggling, students who are looking to excel, and everyone else in between.
I strive for complete satisfaction and never charge for a session unless you are completely satisfied. I've even worked with other tutors and educators to hone their skills and improve their teaching styles.
I have over six years of experience working as a full time professional tutor. I have taught/tutored over 1400 students. I've taught over 600 students in a classroom setting and well over 800 students online. I've individually tutored well over 300 students.
I also have experience working with students that have ADHD, dyslexia, students with IEP's, and other documented learning disabilities. I don't have formal training in specialized education, but plenty of posi
tive experience. While other tutors may shy away from students who they think might be challenging to teach, I embrace these opportunities.
Awesome tutor! Breaks down concepts to make it easily digestible and works with your schedule. He gives you great tips that you can't learn from a book. He is very laid back and that helps with the crazy chaos of MCAT studying. Overall, well rounded in the subjects of the MCAT and would work with him again in the future if I needed. I would defintely recommend him for future MCAT test takers.

Aalok Shah's in depth knowledge of admission testing, coupled with his easy demeanor, made all the difference for our son as he prepped for the college process. In addition to advising our son on the proper material to study, Aalok taught him to strategically tackle each section and manage his question answering time accordingly. He set up realistic weekly goals for our son to meet as well as providing many study guides and materials for his reference. We found Aalok’s advice on college planning extremely useful and he was always readily available to answer any questions that we had. Aalok’s calm and encouraging personality eased the stress surrounding standardized testing. This fall, our son will join the Rutgers University inaugural Honors College Class of 2019 with a full tuition, room & board scholarship worth $102,400. We are extremely grateful to Aalok for the integral role he played in making this happen. We cannot recommend Aalok highly enough to any family who is embarking on the college pathway.

I can't say enough about Aalok. His wealth of tutoring experience is certainly a major advantage, however his dedication and work ethic was what impressed us the most. What started out as just a few tutoring sessions for physics evolved into a wonderful relationship, guiding my son through his SATs and ACTs. Unlike many tutors' rigid availability schedules, Aalok went out of his way to work with my son's demanding high school schedule. He established a sincere rapport with my son and continues to touch base with him even now that he's at college. I am happy to recommend Aalok -- he is an exceptional young man and an excellent tutor.
I have been teaching and tutoring for over five years, and my goal is to help students gain understanding of the problems they solve: I do not teach them simply how to solve problems, but why those problems can be solved in those particular ways. I want to enable students to become problem solvers who think logically and creatively.
I am trained in philosophy (B.A., University of North Texas, and M.A., Biola University) and have been teaching/tutoring for over five years in math, reading, writing, SAT/ACT, and critical thinking/problem solving. I have taught a wide range of ages, from elementary to graduate students, and in classrooms of 100+ students to one-on-one lessons. Ultimately, I love to learn and teach, and I have a passion for helping others achieve their goals.
My students can expect to learn to think well about the subject we study together. We will not simply pursue the knowledge of how to, for example, solve some math problem, but we will also seek to understand why we can solve it this or that way. So, we will pursue both knowledge and understanding. When students have understanding, they are much better prepared to apply what they have learned to oth
er similar problems. My students will learn to be creative, logical thinkers who can apply what they learn to their studies and beyond.
Wes is a very considerate tutor who will most certainly help you improve. He is always on time never missed a class and even spent some of his time in order for my son to understand the lesson. I higly recommend him he truly deserves the 5 stars. In a matter of a month he helped my son improve drastically in his SAT. In which helped him get accepted to a Univeristy. Thank you Wes
I have tutored all sections of the ACT for over six years and have helped dozens of students significantly improve their scores.
I have tutored all sections of both the ACT and SAT as well as many other subjects for over five years and have logged over 3,000 tutoring hours as well as over 650 five star ratings through other tutoring services.
I tutor because I love the challenge of helping people understand new ideas and enjoy making it fun for them. I also like the flexibility that it gives me to pursue my other interests including filmmaking and surfing.
Some of the other subjects I tutor are: SHSAT/TOEFL/GED, Statistics, research paper writing, Geometry, college essay writing, Algebra I & II, English, probability, study skills and have helped students with a wide range of learning disabilities.
Best experience! My son who is on 6th grade had to take the SSAT in a short period of time and Chris got him engaged from the first class, not easy for an online class. He was easy to communicate and was open to work with our schedule. Thanks for all the work you did!
February 12, 2019
Great Algebra tutor! Chris was tutoring my daughter in algebra. He picked up very quickly to see where her weakness is. He is very patient and takes his time in making sure my daughter gets it done. Excellent tutor.
January 11, 2019
Knowledgable and EXTREMELY patient
Christopher came here to teach me pivot tables which I needed to know for work. I had no knowledge of what they were or did and when he left I had an understanding which I did not think I could achieve in such a short time. The patience he showed was wonderful as I was nervous and he put me at ease which is not an easy task! He also had to figure out what I need to do (in Excel)when I do not completely understand it myself but by the time he left, he understood and I am confident that I can succeed now and it is all because of Christopher!
I've been working as a tutor for 10+ years, specializing in math and science subjects at the high school and college level, as well as standardized test prep. I understand that every student has a different learning style, and will have different goals for our work together, so I develop a tailored plan during the initial meeting. My style of teaching is based on scaffolding my students, providing information when necessary while also encouraging them to take ownership of their part in our work together.
With 10+ years of tutoring experience under my belt, I've developed a teaching style that is supportive and compassionate, but also no-nonsense. I help students work to the highest level of their capabilities, providing expert knowledge and encouraging them to be active participants in their learning.
I have a BS in Biology from the University of Minnesota as well as an MD from St. George's University. Given my background, I'm very comfortable tutoring in the areas of math and science. In addition, I have received specialized training on prepping for standardized tests such as the ACT, SAT, GMAT, and MCAT and can help students navigate the ins and outs of these challenging exams.
Anthony is a thorough professional and devoted tutor. My teenage daughter, who is homeschooling and takes 1 or 2 intensive courses at a time, was able to swiftly move through the geometry material with the excellent instruction and guidance of Anthony as her teacher.
May 4, 2019
I have referred several students to Anthony in subjects ranging from AP Physics to ACT prep. He is highly skilled in the subjects he teaches. Just as importantly he is very empathic, and kids enjoy working with him. He is kind with them while still being able to keep them focused and on track.
"Matt is a patient, creative and effective tutor for all subjects and all cities. In addition to teaching for public schools, he currently teaches 20+ priv
ate sessions each week, K-12th grade, as well as college students and business professionals. Matt teaches in person in Ohio, as well as online in all US time zones and abroad. He is available weekdays or weekends, days or nights, throughout the entire year. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Case Western Reserve University where he earned a Provost Scholarship. His tutoring specialties include test prep for the ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT, HSPT, ISEE and ASTB, as well as math and English. I highly recommend Matt if you need a private tutor."
"Joyee Lin of Thinque has been nothing short of amazing. Professional with results to show. My daughter started working with Joyee a couple of months ago.
Within six lessons, my daughter's composite ACT score went from a 28 prior to working with Joyee to a 32. Amazingly, her science score went from a 25 to a 32. Those numbers are the end result of Joyee's professional approach to teaching. During the lesson, Joyee utilizes a number of methods to present the material. It must be said that my daughter took his instruction seriously and worked hard on the material which was provided to her. The result was a good example of team work in which my daughter could receive, in addition to immediate instruction, quick review and understanding after working through the material. Joyee makes it easy to work around a busy lifestyle as he schedules and responds to correspondence promptly. We can't offer him enough praise. Joyee is offering an amazing service and we were so glad to have been referred to him."
"We were given Matthews name from a friend that used him for her two sons ACT tests and were happy with the results. My daughter studied with him multiple
times at a mutual site preparing for her ACT test. He would not only explain why she missed a problem on a practice test but then teach her so she understood the concept. He was very diligent, professional and thorough in his tutoring. My daughter went up 4 points on her ACT! Couldn’t be happier and HIGHLY recommend Matthew."
"My son had to take the ACT for grad school and did not have enough time to prepare thoroughly. Bill was able to clarify all the majority of my son's quest
ions and drilled on particular questions that gave him trouble. The preparation genuinely helped as my son received a 33 overall on the ACT."
"As you can see I’ve written a review for Matthew regarding my daughters success (her test was last year) so I’d like to write one for my son also. My son
was not driving at the time and Matthew agreed to drive to our home and teach him for an additional nominal fee. My son also took multiple tutoring sessions with Matthew and learned something new every time. He felt confident going into the test, confident in his ability to complete the exam and do well on it. Matthew takes his time with each individual and works with their specific needs. My children needed help in different areas of the ACT and Matthew was more than capable of helping them in those areas. My sons ACT score also went up 4 points after working with Matthew! I can’t say enough how professional, kind and thorough he is."
"This past summer, I was in search of a tutor to assist my brother with his preparation for the ACT. A number of conversations with local tutors proved fru
itless, as they were either too expensive or had rigid schedules. After doing some research online, I came across Joyee’s profile on Wyzant. I was particularly impressed by his extensive background in ACT tutoring having worked for some well-regarded test preparation companies. In addition, his rates were extremely fair. I enlisted Joyee’s tutoring services via skype, and my experience was remarkable. In spite of the three hour time difference between the east coast and west coast, Joyee remained a consummate professional with regard to his scheduling and punctuality. Most importantly, he is fully invested in his students, demonstrating patience and understanding whilst pushing them to achieve their full potential. Prior to working with Joyee, my brother had an initial diagnostic score of 27. After six weeks of tutoring with Joyee my brother scored a 35 on the September 2015 ACT. I highly recommend Joyee, his tutoring services are the perfect complement for any motivated high school student seeking help with test preparation."
