I have been teaching this subject for over 16 years. There is no specific curriculum as each student will come to lessons with their own unique skills, needs, and goals. Lessons are tailored to those specifics. Opera voice is for experienced singers. The ability to reading music is mandatory as is access to a piano or keyboard for practicing. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected based on the student's learning needs but also with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

Troy is an absolutely magical teacher and mentor. He not only provides caring, personalized instruction that goes far beyond the traditional fundamentals, he really takes the time to push me in ways that I find enjoyable and rewarding. I feel as though my lessons are dynamic and varied enough to keep me always engaged and looking forward to that next session. Best of all, Troy is that special type of guru that really gives you that added incentive to go the extra mile...I never feel a guilt or pressure to be at a certain level or practice a certain amount, I just feel this desire to impress Troy during my next lessons. Awesome stuff - very special guy! Looking forward to a lifetime of learning with Troy!

As a voice teacher, my intention is to guide my students in understanding all aspects of their musicianship – as a singer, student, and artist. My teaching rests upon a foundation of pedagogy that employs not only traditional techniques of bel canto singing, but also a scientific understanding of the voice as part of the human anatomy. In order to teach these concepts effectively, lessons are structured based on the personality and needs of each individual student. With extensive background in the study of interpersonal communication, my priority lies in creating a learning space where the student is able to explore and create music in the most comfortable and effective manner.
Throughout the series of lessons, I hope to establish and monitor the student’s technique, in order to ensure healthy and efficient production of the voice. Further, I aim to influence the student’s growth as they navigate the world of being a musician in the 21st century by helping them understand their ...

Jennifer is an amazing voice teacher! I have been a lifelong choral singer but had not taken individual lessons prior to working with Jennifer. Within just a few lessons I noticed a difference in my singing. She is so good at quickly identifying areas to improve and offering guidance with my technique, and leaves me with well thought out exercises at the end of each lesson to help reinforce what we learned. Not to mention the super fun repertoire! She is an incredible singer herself and an excellent teacher. Would recommend to anyone, new or previously trained!

Jennifer is such an amazing and thorough voice teacher. She is extremely knowledgeable about technique and will tailor her lessons to best fit you or your child. I have loved taking lessons with her and she helped me open up so much in terms of confidence and just helping me open up vocally. Highly recommend!!!

The Song-Heart Connection and Vocal Studio embraces the singer's personal and professional journey.

Many teachers conduct voice lessons using a series of preconstructed warmups and vocalises. This is rigid and ineffective, as each singer's vocal journey is unique. Voice Lesson By Design embraces the individual strengths of the singer, catering to their specific pedagogical needs. Every lesson is different. Creativity, playfulness, curiosity, humor, exploration, sensitivity and respect are held in a safe container during lessons, acting as fundamental collaborative elements of The Song-Heart Connection and Vocal Studio.

I am joyful to have extensive experience collaborating with:

*singers and dancers performing on Broadway and national tours

*contemporary recording artists

*actors in film and television

*voice over and audio book talent

*university and conservatory musical theater and voice majors

*performing arts middle and high school students

I take pride in working with

8 Beautiful Opera Arias for Beginner Singers

It is always exciting when a vocal student is ready to start studying his or her first operatic aria! One of the best things about being a classical singer is knowing you have so many great years ahead of you. After all, you’re considered in your prime in your 40s. That being said, realize that the voice you have now and the repertoire you’ll first study will be very, very different from what you sing later on in your career. It’s absolutely crucial that you sing repertoire that is …
