Ed is very knowledgeable and makes the learning process enjoyable

Ed's vast knowledge, experience and easy demeanor is helping me finally gain a better knowledge of the fretboard and expand beyond "blues box 1" and connect the patterns. I think I see a light bulb.

Ed has a pleasant easy going personality. I've had a couple of teachers who were great players, but lousy teachers. I quit my last teacher because he was completely unprepared and what we did had nothing to do with what we did the previous lesson that I had spent so much time practicing. I got the feeling he thought he was so good he could just wing it. Wrong. I've only had one lesson with Ed, but he seems well prepared and he has his program structured so the student can learn in a progressive manor.

My goal as a teacher is to make students successful in their goals. I work with a variety of people; some of them study music for personal enjoyment and others for their musical career. Everyone responds differently to music, that is why I prepare special lessons for each student. It is important that my students enjoy what they are playing and for that reason I have a variety of repertoire that they can choose from.
From a lot of experience with beginner piano students, both young and adults, I have been able to find a regimen of piano teaching that combines time efficiency with fun. As the lessons continue, I slowly add new tools to each weekly lesson that are exiting and interesting. While working with intermediate to advanced students, I have had coached them to apply and get accepted into some of the top Universities and Conservatories in the country. My students, beginner intermediate and advanced levels, have been awarded for their performances and activities in schools and ...

Bgcheck Background Checked

I work with the student to develop a curriculum based on their musical interests and my own teaching pedagogy. I strongly feel that for musicians to own their education, they must have a say in what they play. Assigning method books and mindless etudes to practice doesn't have nearly the same effect asking them "Ok, what kind of music do YOU like? What do you want to PLAY? What do you want to LEARN?".

I believe that students learn best when they are invested in a subject, and the best way to get them invested is to individually get to know each one, speak to them on their level, and get them playing music they're interested in.

About Jon

I'm a professional performer, educator, and recording artist. I received my Masters in Music from New Mexico State University, and my BA and BMA from the College of Wooster in Ohio. Students can expect to improve their technique and performing repertoire within a matter of weeks. We will collabo

Jon is helping me to relearn the clarinet after many (47!) years of not playing. I wish I had half the brain power I did back then. But he's very encouraging. My goal is to play with a concert band just a couple of months from now, so he's customizing my lessons to meet that goal. When I encounter challenges, he's very good at explaining ways to overcome those challenges. I really like working with Jon and feel lucky to have found such a good teacher.

I signed up for in-home lessons with Caitlin. She came on time and prepared. You could tell she wasn't just winging it but that she put a lot of thought into her lesson plan. I learned a lot and felt very supported through all of my mistakes! I would highly recommend Caitlin for your cello lessons."

I was very shy with my voice and Giorgia was the very first person to be able to make me sing in front of another person. She takes you through the basics and explains very constructively how things work. I can recommend her to anyone who is wanting to discover their voice!"

Is it Possible to Sing Well Without Taking Lessons?

If you're wondering how to sing well without lessons, you'll want to check out this guest post. Here, Washington, DC voice teacher Jacqueline E. shares her thoughts... Is it possible to sing well without taking voice lessons? In a nutshell, my answer to this is a firm “no.” So, what does it look like for someone who genuinely wants to learn how to sing well, but can’t take lessons, for whatever reason, and just commits to self-teaching through various methods? The different opportu …
